4-0 out of 5 stars A very good book for residents
This book has almost everything you need for your Radiology residence, particularly the first years. It's easy to read and has good images and schemes. I think the introductory chapters and those about arthritis are particularly good. This textbook covers aspects of conventional radiology as well as MRI, although the latter could be improved, I believe. In that sense, you may want to complete your MK library with Kaplan's MK MRI and then you'll have everything a general radiologist could need and should know about musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelente livro para a residência!
That's a great book to be read over the residency. It does not substitute the classical ones but adds a lot (updated e comprehensive).

5-0 out of 5 stars Really a good option
I am radiology resident and I bought this book as review alternative to the big textbooks, I was really surprised it, it is a very complete book.

Got it in 2 days from across the US. Brand new still wrapped in plastic, no blemishes

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, especially for podiatry students!!
This book is fantastic! Dr. Christman actually taught at my school (TUSPM) until this past June. He is a fantastic teacher that is very knowledgable, and that shows in his text book. This book has an entire chapter on anatomical views of the foot and ankle. You learn how to take a radiograph and how to read one. You learn about different angles and why one view would be better than another. He tells you everything you need to know about radiographs of the (osseous and some soft tissue) anatomy of the foot and ankle. This book is a must for podiatric medical students!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done!
In a field where we are forced to have a working understanding of the ever-expanding realm of medical knowledge, this text provides ER docs with the necessary tools to approach a broad spectrum of imaging modalities. This book is remarkable for three reasons: 1) It is a great resource for students and residents as they develop their knowledge base.2) A 'must-have' in the ED for a quick reference on any study you could even think of ordering.3) Truly a one of a kind offering- I can't believe no one else thought of this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great text!
A must have reference for emergency clinicians. This text provides a complete pictorial catalog of relevant emergency imaging and the accompanying well written text makes learning straightforward. Whether you are reviewing plain radiographs, CT, MRI or ultrasound this text is for you.
Kudos to Dr. Chris Fox and colleagues for authoring this comprehensive and relevant emergency reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a radiology text for the practicing emergency physician
Phenomenal book. This book will help you improve your skills in the rapid evaluation of emergent pathology across all of the imaging modalities. An absolute must for the practicing EP who wishes to rapidly recognize clinically significant injuries, avoid missing occult injuries, and speak intelligently with colleagues regarding our patients.A 4 year radiology residency jam packed in one book, minus all of the fluff and clinically insignificant findings that fail to influence the practice of the emergency medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding reference
A great reference for the emergency department. In a field where we are expected to understand and incorporate a multitude of imaging modalities, many of which we must read ourselves, there is a surprising lack of reference material. This book fills that gap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read -- twice!
I read this book twice -- once as a 1st year resident and again as a senior getting ready for boards.Small enough to read in a weekend, but full of pearls. The only section that leaves a bit to be desired is the neuro section which the author admits is a subject too specialized for such an introductory book.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
An excellent overview of Pediatric radiology who need to be familiar, but not expert in the field.

4-0 out of 5 stars Goodand very helpful for quick review
It is very well written and all pertinent topics for a resident are included without too much details. It is good for a quick overall review of the subject with good images for residents preparing for oral boards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to pediatric radiology
This is a well-written text that is easily readable during your first pediatric radiology rotation (slightly bigger than Helm's pink book). It's clearly targeted at radiology residents, since the author includes short explanations and tips on performing common fluoro procedures and anticipates questions most residents have when first starting peds. Given its size and cost, some compromises with the book were made (I would like to see more pictures and diagrams), but the ones in the book are generally of excellent quality. Pertinent films are discreetly labelled to illustrate major findings, a major benefit to newer residents. The topics are discussed clearly and succintly, with the most relevant facts of each topic included. Given it's size it's not overly comprehensive, but this is probably a plus for most residents frustrated by larger texts that drone on about one topic or focus on obscure topics that are unlikely to be helpful early in their training. This book is much better than two larger and more expensive texts I have looked at, the Peds Requisites and the Essentials of Peds Radiology. ... Read more

summation about this book

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introductory book
This text looks a little thin for $ 99 but once you look at the quality and number of its pictures you realize that it is worth every penny. I missed a more detailed description on how to take radiographs as great asthe ones the authors show, and the part on ultrasonography might be alittle more comprehensive. 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for board review and general review for practitioners
This is an excellent case-based approach to reviewing pediatric radiology.Organized by the major subspecialties, each section has numerous cases to solidify your knowledge base. The usefulness, in my time, was taking the cases as unknowns by looking at the history and reviewing the images.A diagnosis and discussion is covered on the following page which is great for self assessment.

Inserts including Pearls and Pitfalls emphasizes key points for each subject. The images are decent and diagnostic quality but have been surpassed by current technology.

This is a solid book, even if the images need an update.

It is an excellent book for rotations in Pediatric Radiology for both Radiology Residents/Fellows and Pediatric Residents/Fellows, alike.

I highly recommend this text.

3-0 out of 5 stars Classic cases but poor image quality by today's standards.
Classic cases for orals studying but it was written a long time ago and the image quality is poor by today's standards.I really enjoyed it and wish they would do another edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars HIgh yield.
Useful for pediatric residents. High yield. I would advise flipping through a copy though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Board review
This book was very helpful for board review and preparation. I believe it does live up to its name as a baby book of "Aunt Minnie's".The diagnoses are classic and discussions succinct. The bibliography is alsoexcellent.

One could use this book as a primary learning tool whilelearning pediatric radiology, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but aradiologist or a radiology resident. It wouldn't be very helpful for apediatrician, because the way it is set-up is radiology "boards"style. ... Read more

This is a nice concise book of trauma. It gets only 4 stars only because it's not that thorough, but then, it's not a big, expensive book either.I recommend it. ... Read more

The layout of the book is very helpful. The chapter's are full of information and at the end ask a few questions.Gives great explanations instead of just a book full of questions. This book went over informationthat was very helpful and that I had not covered during my radiologyclasses. After taking the pre-Rad exams, I was glad I had read the book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars clinical radiology:the essentials
Being a radiologist, I thought I don't need this book but guess what? It is very helpful in a clinical point of view and serves as a good source of review.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good introductory book but not enough...
This is a good introductory book, but it doesn't explain much of the pathological aspects of radiology. It's mostly for delving you into the basics of radiology. It doesn't analyze each disease entity with the accompanying radiological signs...

4-0 out of 5 stars WELL-WRITTEN AND BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED
This well-written and beautifully illustrated textbook was designed for medical students. It is comprehensive: with each chapter sectioned into technical, anatomical and pathological sub-headings.
"Clinical Radiology: The Essentials" embraced all aspects of diagnostic and interventional imaging techniques currently in use. It is a general mini-reference text whose aim is to provide students with all the tutorials that they may need during revision.
Still, experienced radiologists would appreciate its concise outlook, which makes it an ideal memory-refreshing tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Radiology!
I truly recommend this book to every medical student, specially to those doing a rotation in Radiology. The book is marvelously illustrated with hundreds of big and clear photos of every diagnostic imaging modality currently used, showing the most important technical, anatomic and radiologic considerations one must have when ordering and evaluating an imaging study. The book is very clearly written, goes to the point and takes into account almost every clinical situation one is likely to encounter in practice. I could even say it's enjoyable.

3-0 out of 5 stars read a while and say goodnight
Radiology is enriched by this summarizing book in a more or less satisfying manner. In my opinion, the author has found an average compromise between textbook and atlas of radiological pathology. Although you will find many good figures of typical laesions, it may happen that you have to search for them for a little while, because this book is lacking a conceice content of figures. If one was a bloody beginner in radiology, a more detailed description of normal findings would have been helpful. Nevertheless, if you are interested in reading and looking a couple of time when nothing else is to do that night, you can never be wrong with that book. Moreover, the price is fair in comparison to similar books even appeared at LWW. ... Read more

I have this book. This is a good introductory book but without too in depth detail. One would be better suited with the Handbook of Interventional Radiology Procedures as a pocket guide. The Requisites and Valji's IR text are excellent.A's IR book is very in depth but easy to read.As a first text for IR, I would go with Valji or the Requisites. If you are a resident, go with either one.If you are a fellow, good luck findings time to read anything but then again, you must have already read one of these books. The handbook is a good quick reference for indications/contraindications, injections rates and statistics (success rate, mortality and complication rates), meds, dosing. This is good for problem solving and patient guide. As technical skill comes with time, I would use this to help decision making.Remember, you can do many things (technically) in IR, but the real question is, "Should you."Books that answer the "should you" questions is what you need to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to interventional practice
I feel that this book is a very informative guide, regardless of experience in the field. It starts at the basics and elaborates on every aspect of the interventional lab. Good introductory book for anyone starting in this area of radiology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick Evaluation
Outstanding book. More concentrated information than I've found in any other guide to IR and exceedingly well written.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
If you are new to intervention, then make it your first book to read. If not, then make it the 2nd book. The book doesn't describe the techniques in detail, but it will give a good orientation about what you are about to do, what to look for, and what to avoid. (It will answer some questions that you may be shy to ask .. shhhhh).
After all, it is a good book for beginners

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and thorough
This is arguably the most didactic textbook on image differential diagnosis in children. On the other side of the Atlantic, Swischuk and John's version is probably more encyclopedic, but definitely not clearer, than this one. In fact, these two books complement each other well. Ebel has summoned a superb group of German radiologists and teachers, and the result is this brilliant and thorough job. Not only its format is very readable but also the information is pragmatically presented in tables and sustained with outstanding photographs. In fact, the images are the strongest side of this book. Being printed and bound in Germany with excellent materials, the pictures are abundantly clear and well chosen. It has several measurements and calculation charts that I also found of invaluable assistance. In sum, it is hard to find any downsides to this excellent book and, given that diagnostic imaging is affixed to clinical pediatric diagnosis these days, its content is really on diagnostic pediatrics and thus will be essential to anyone involved in pediatric care. ... Product Description
This comprehensive, yet concise tool provides a direct approach to differential diagnosis for the 23 most common radiologic patterns of chest disease. CT and HRCT are used to confirm the pattern, show anatomic distribution of the disease, and make a specific diagnosis. Each pattern is introduced with radiographs followed by a series of questions, tables of differential diagnosis, and discussions of the most likely diseases to present with such a pattern. Discussions emphasize the importance of clinical correlation to narrow down the differential diagnosis. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not great
I have struggled with finding a good chest radiography book and had my hopes pinned on this one. The good is that it is well-organized and the chapters are of a manageable length. The end-of-chapter summaries are great and the charts with differential diagnoses are comprehensive yet not intimidating. The bad is that the images, particularly the radiographs, are of suboptimal quality. Not infrequently, I would struggle to even see the obvious finding in the figure. "Fine reticular opacities" look not much different from "coarse reticular opacities." While it is convenient that the book is rather small in dimension, the images are likewise small, too small. This book succeeds in explaining how to differentiate rather nonspecific findings in chest radiography (a major plus). It falls short in reproducing those findings visually. You can't do that in radiology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a great book.I was expecting a dull radiology text, but this book is interactive and interesting in which Dr. Reed starts the chapter with images and questions then spends the remainder of the chapter answering them/ illustrating a point. Also, the book aims at pattern recognition and what the patterns mean rather than suggesting specific diagnosis.

5-0 out of 5 stars radiology resident
This is a very good book for radiologists, residents and medical students with an interest in radiology. The chapters are organized by findings such as pleural calcifications, rather than anatomy such as the pleural space.I find this more in line with how a radiologist/resident thinks. There are "pre-tests" at the begining of each chapter, excellent tables, and post chapter "pearls" that help for comprehension. At the end of the chapters are typical radiographs that show the disease topics. The discussion in the chapters helps you narrow your differential with identification of key secondary findings. This book should be read before the oral exam at least once. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Resident Review
This text has been required reading for the radiology program I attend, however, I must admit that many senior residents strongly advise incoming residents to return it for a refund as residents cannot afford a textbook that is low-yield.I have read several chapters and find it not very helpful.I feel that your money and time is better spent reading a standard introductory diagnostic radiology text (not Squire's as this is more suited for medical students) such as Helms Diagnostic Radiology or the MGH Primer or better yet, saving your money for the costly registration fees for your boards.Trust me on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible in emergency radiology
Now in its third printing, Dr. Harris' monumental tome continues to set the standard. Along with the excellent text in well-written prose, Dr. Harris has strenghthened the book with the contributions from several experts in Emergency Radiology. They have supplied discussions on modern modalities including CT, US, MRI and Angiography. The book, however, retains its strenghth in the emphasis on mechanisms of injury, the subtleties available in plain radiography and the total approach to trauma with clinically-oriented imaging protocols. No ER should be without this superb text ... Read more
