Product Description
Did you know that...

*The angiogram used for recommending procedures on the heart is highly inaccurate and that most angiograms are not necessary.

*There is no evidence that coronary bypass surgery or balloon angioplasties extend life, yet over 600,000 of these procedures are being done each year.

*Blood cholesterol levels are ineffective in determining heart attack risk and much more accurate measurements exist but are seldom used.

*Cholesterol-lowering drugs do not extend life, but may actually increase the overall death rate.

*The primary focus in the medical industry is to make a profit and, therefore, much of the advice and treatment we receive is not in our best interest.

*We pay an estimated $45 billion per year on preventive and treatment measures for heart disease that don't work.

*Obstructions in coronary arteries can open up with diet and lifestyle changes alone, but because of financial incentives doctors prefer sending patients into surgery.

*Conventional treatment for heart disease often does not work but safe, inexpensive methods are available that do work.

If your doctor recommends getting an angiogram, coronary bypass surgery, balloon angioplasty, or taking cholesterol-lowering drugs your best course of action may be to run out the door. For most people these procedures/treatments are not effective and are completely unnecessary. The most popular medical procedures are the most profitable for the health care industry but are often the least effective. Hundreds of thousands of people each year are deceived in undergoing expensive medical treatments that do no good and may even do a great deal of harm. Highly effective procedures that are low-risk and inexpensive are ignored or even ridiculed. Recommending expensive, high-risk procedures over the cheaper, more effective ones amounts to nothing more than fraud. If you had the choice of going through a risky $20,000 surgical procedure or simply taking a daily vitamin supplement which one would you choose? Most patients aren't given the choice.

These facts, and more, led Charles T. McGee, M.D. to write this hard hitting, expose of the health care system. In it you will learn which procedures and treatments to avoid and which ones offer the most hope. If you are concerned about heart disease, and everyone should be, you need to read this book! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars o.k., but a bit disappointing
I wanted to like this book, but I was a bit disappointed. The causes and treatment of coronary artery disease are topics about which well-qualified experts hotly disagree.Who should we believe? The author's credibility suffers by the poor production qualities of the book, especially numerous typographical and grammatical errors.Maybe it shouldn't be so, but it is.More importantly, the author's zeal in promoting his own views on the subject have an over-the-top feel.

The author is at his best when relating studies and pointing out what they imply or where they go wrong.Much of what he says I have read elsewhere or experienced first-hand.These parts are the most persuasive, the anecdotes are the least.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising
I received this book as a gift, and judging from the title was expecting something kooky and eccentric.I was pleasantly suprised.Dr. McGhee supports every statement he makes with data, and provides references in the back.I was trying to lower my cholesterol level before I read this book (it's just under 200).Now I won't worry about it so much, asaccording to him taking cholesterol-lowering drugs could be much worse for my health.I learned a lot of things that surprised me, and saw a lot of things I took for granted challenged (such as that eating a low-fat diet is healthy). Now my curiosity has been aroused, and I want to read a lot more about the topic. The book is a bit dated, as the information it refers to only goes to 1999.I'd like to see an updated version.Nevertheless, I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart Frauds
I have been researching this kind of information and working with it for many years .
My opinion isBUY THIS BOOK .

If you have any concerns about any illness related to the Heart for your self , or others , you will not find a more relevant book .

4-0 out of 5 stars Everyone over 35years old should read this book!
I graduated medical school over 10 years ago, even then, Cardiothoracic surgeons and Cardiologists have always been at the top of the hiearchy in hospitals. This is due to both money and machismo.Several facts always troubled me; everything from the patients who had heart attacks despite normal cholesterol, to the inconsistent findings seen on angiogram, to the cognitive defects seen following surgery.

Well, McGee's book cites multiple studies showing there is little correlation between cholesterol and heart disease. Before reading the book, I had only read the studies justifying the use of statin drugs. It seemed strange to me that so much pathology was tied in to a molecule which is needed by your body to make hormones and components of brain tissue.

McGee points out lack of inter and intra-rater relliability in reading angiograms, which is used as the main study to determine what type of treatment will follow, the most invasive being open heart surgery.Well, it turns out that angioplasty and/or cardiac bypass don't prolong life.

Many cardiologists that I know have become wealthy using the following algorhythm: use statins to lower cholesterol. This doesn't work to decrease heart disease, so they probably won't lose them as patients. After a heart attack or the onset of angina, do an angiogram.Well, angiograms aren't reliable, so they can read into it whatever pathology they want.Eventually, they'll do an angioplasty based on an unreliable angiogram, this won't stop angina, so they'll throw in some stents.Eventually, the cardiologist will have billed all the procedures he can.Time to send them off to the heart surgeon. They'll get a 2-5 vessel bypass costing 50-100k.By this time the patient is probably broke.Despite all the worry, pain of getting procedures, and cost, the patient will have the same lifespan as he would have had had he stayed away from cardiologists (except perhaps in the acute phase of the heart attack).

What I tell my family members is stop smoking, eat a pound of fresh vegetables a day, lean meats with lots of oily fish, exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week, take Vitamin B-6 to lower homocysteine, and when your doctor wants to measure your cholesterol, tell them "no thanks".Short of an acute infarct, stay away from cardiologists, especially the ones who describe themselves as "interventionalists", since invariably this will lead to a series of gradually more invasive procedures.

I didn't give 5 stars due to some of the cartoons in the book.I didn't think the cartoons fit in with the same scientific tone of the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outof the darkness into the Light
What a revelation. So glad to have read this book.Such a shame that the medical elite have to keep the American public in the dark on the more up to date science on why we are so heart attack prone in this country.I am so glad Dr. McGee is not afaid to tell the truth!People have to be more invovled and take more initiative in their health care and truly do some of their own research and don't just take their doctor's word for it as most doctors just parrot the party line or are too busy to find out the latest science on the why's of bodily manfunctions in their patients.

Need more preventative options instead of just masking the real problems with a pill or diet that really doesn't work.Treat the cause not the symptoms. Thanks Dr. McGee for enlightening me on a very important subject! Oh, and this book read like a murder mystery! After the first two chapters, I was hooked and couldn't stop reading it.

Sincerely,
Dotty B. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for anyone interested in their internet security.
I think this book really should be a must read for anyone who in online.Internet security is a big problem, and as truly unpleasant as spam is, as malware is, as viruses are... they are NOTHING in comparison to identity theft and to internet cons that drain bank accounts.

According to the first chapter there are ten million americans scammed and swindled every year. That number is staggering to me.To put it into perspective... there are 120 countries on the earth that have less people in their borders than the number of people swindled in America every year.Portugal. Sweden.Switzerland.The Domincan Republic.Chad.Finland and Norway combined. There are more people swindled in America than even live in the countries that I just named. That is insane.

Here are the things I liked about this book and why I think it should be read:

1.It is an easy to read writing style. Not too techy. Not too legalese.
2.It tells about real life stories. Not just hypothetical scenarios.Lots of actual cases of scams and swindles.
3.It gets the information and advice and perspective from not just the law enforcement involved, but from the victims and from the actual con artists.
4.It breaks the scams down step by step, including the variations, and shows how to know when you are being scammed.

Internet security is so important in this day and age of identity theft, internet cons, and hacking of personal information. There is only so much that software can do to protect us.Frankly, we have to be knowledgeable and protect ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Identity theft explained and how to prevent it!
This small sized book identifies and explains the identity theft spectrum and how it occurs. It tells how we are taken in by con men and women and how to prevent it.In some cases, we are even shown how to bring to justice these heartless criminals.

5-0 out of 5 stars A basic primer packed with insights any Internet user should be aware of
Scams & Swindles: How To Recognize And Avoid Internet Era Rip-Offs is a basic primer packed with insights any Internet user should be aware of. From Nigerian schemes and money laundering to phishing, id theft and investment frauds, Scams & Swindles covers method, purpose, and how to avoid becoming a victim. Mortgage fraud, spam and spyware receive insights too all with an eye to Internet dangers.

4-0 out of 5 stars no technical answer to phishing
The book is a hallmark of our current Internet experiences. The editors go through the various scams circulating on the Web. Like the Nigerian 419. Or the Russian/East European mail order brides. Or the fake prescription drugs. An amazing compendium of the darknet. Some readers may be scared off the net. But more likely, you will gain some protection simply by being aware of the book's advice.

One chapter is devoted to phishing. Where an email purports to be from a bank, and breathlessly urges you to log in to your account, to ascertain some important detail. Or the email might say it is from eBay or Paypal, with similar urgencies. The chapter is instructive for many readers. But please note that the editors do not offer anything in the way of a technical antiphishing solution. Their methods involve manual effort on your part. Alas, there will always be gullible or inexperienced users to fall prey to phishers.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent and pragmatic book-advice that should not go unheeded
There is a well-known wise saying, Caveat Emptor, which is the Latin for Buyer Beware. In other words, when purchasing goods or services it is essential that the buyer take all precautions in examining the item or services they are purchasing.

The editors of the Silver Lake Publishers have produced an excellent and pragmatic book, Scams & Swindles: How to Recognize and Avoid Internet Era Rip-Offs that focuses on many of the common con tricks and scams that deceive individuals and consumers, particularly if we are involved in some way or another with the Internet-be it email or otherwise.
It is noteworthy to mention that although some of these scams seem to be relatively new, their modus operandi dates back hundreds of years in that they are based on the con artist's imagination and the victim's gullibility.

The book takes a very realistic look at Internet scams and lays bare important details pertaining to such frauds as eBay auctions, the Nigerian emails emanating from some fake high government official requesting the use of your bank account to transfer funds, scams that involve investment, business and banking, fake charities, sweetheart and Russian bride swindles, drugs and pharmaceuticals rip-offs.
The authors also include weighty specifics as to how Internet hackers operate and commit their crimes, as well as something that is becoming more common today- phishing. This basically is when you receive emails from a financial institution that cleverly resembles one you are presently dealing with and you are requested to provide some very personal information. A further variation of the same theme is that it may originate from a site that appears to be Ebay requesting your pin number and some other important data.Internet criminals have become even more sophisticated in their implementation of phishing, wherein an email, instant message or other Internet communication is sent to you in someone else's name. As the authors point out, it really boils down to a form of identity theft.

Other topics examined and that we are often subjected to in our daily use of the Internet are the nasty and very often annoying practices of spam and spyware. Spam today is not only restricted to pornography, it also involves get-rich-quick schemes or a miracle drugs. In fact, as the authors point out, a study by a British computer security firm, Clearswift Ltd, discovered in 2004 that finance spams topped the list of the most popular with 39%, whereas pornography was at the bottom of the list, 4.8%.

The authors have obviously done their research and they have completed an impressive job in putting together all of the information in a clear, upbeat and conversation style that present readers with valuable insights into the world of Internet crime.

The message is unmistakable, think twice before clicking something within the body of an email or giving out information to anyone and always bear in mind caveat emptor. Moreover, the authors' elaborate suggestions that appear throughout the book as to how to prevent problems should not go unheeded.

I am very interested in check fraud, and I have read most books on the subject. All the other books tell you the usual things to look out for, and what features to look for. This is the only book that tells you why criminals don't worry about those check protection methods. I highly recommend this book. Sure it tells you some of the usual stuff, but it also makes you realize how truly simple it is to commit check fraud and not get caught. ... Read more

This is an article from a February 2005 magazine which reviewed "Qurb" software. It appears that you might be purchasing the software, but it is only a 960 word copy of the 2-1/2 year old article. This has absolutely no value. If you are interested in Qurb, as I was, and you find any site selling it, you will get all this information including the features which have been added in the 2-1/2 years since this was written. I was totally discouraged that Amazon would "Sell" a reprint of an old magazine article. Product Description
There are plenty of products on the market for consumers to chose from. Most of the time they evolve based on the needs of society. When there is a trend taking place then you will see many different products emerge that can meet the new need people have. Some of them have been around for many years but people just don’t notice them. They aren’t recognized until there is a significant need for them. Older products may change how they advertise and even change the name of the product in order to get a facelift in the public eye. It is no secret to anyone that gas prices have continued to rise to unbelievable prices over the past couple of years. While there has been a steady increase all along, nothing has taken place like it has in the past six months. It sees like the prices at the pumps are increasing every couple of days. That has many consumers scared to death and scrambling for a solution. They aren’t making more money but continue have more expenses to cover. The more your drive your vehicle they more you are affected by these increasing fuel prices. It can be a very scary time if you already have a thin budget to work with. It may only be by a few cents but that quickly adds up to too much per gallon. The fact that the prices tend to go up every week isn’t helping. In the end you are likely paying more money when you fill up than ever before. This has also lead to an increase in the cost of everything else. That is because it is taking more money for suppliers to get it delivered. All of that price increase is being passed on to the consumer. Trucking companies have to pay more for fuel to get supplies to lumber yards, groceries and supplies to stores, and even to transport fuel to the gas stations. They can’t stay in business if they don’t increase what they charge for such deliveries. As a result the places they are delivering materials to have to increase what they charge in order to make a profit. This is a continuous cycle with the final consumer getting the short end of the stick. This has resulted in people traveling less and buying fewer items that aren’t essential. With very little chance that gas prices are going to drop, people are looking for alternatives. That is why business entrepreneurs are offering a variety of gas saving devices. The controversy though is that some people believe they work while others are convinced they are nothing more than a scam. There are hundreds of such products out there available and that is appealing to consumers. They are tired of paying high amounts for gas and they are willing to do all they can in order to find a way out of it. Advertisers of such products know this and they continue to appeal to the emotions of these consumers in order to sell more of their products. Before you buy one of them you need to do your homework. You need to find out what other consumers have to say about it. You definitely don’t want to waste your time or money on something that isn’t going to be effective. There is no reason to hand over the cash until you know you are getting a legitimate product with a high level of credibility behind it. ... Read more

Product Description
This electronic book on CD-ROM presents an up-to-date and comprehensive collection of federal documents about various well-known investment scams, including Ponzi schemes, pyramid schemes, affinity fraud, and multi-level marketing (MLM). There is material from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Department of Justice (DoJ), FBI, Senate and House.Ponzi schemes are a type of illegal pyramid scheme named for Charles Ponzi, who duped thousands of New England residents into investing in a postage stamp speculation scheme back in the 1920s. Ponzi thought he could take advantage of differences between U.S. and foreign currencies used to buy and sell international mail coupons. Ponzi told investors that he could provide a 40% return in just 90 days compared with 5% for bank savings accounts. Ponzi was deluged with funds from investors, taking in $1 million during one three-hour period and this was 1921! Though a few early investors were paid off to make the scheme look legitimate, an investigation found that Ponzi had only purchased about $30 worth of the international mail coupons. Decades later, the Ponzi scheme continues to work on the "rob-Peter-to-pay-Paul" principle, as money from new investors is used to pay off earlier investors until the whole scheme collapses. In the classic "pyramid" scheme, participants attempt to make money solely by recruiting new participants into the program. The hallmark of these schemes is the promise of sky-high returns in a short period of time for doing nothing other than handing over your money and getting others to do the same. The fraudsters behind a pyramid scheme may go to great lengths to make the program look like a legitimate multi-level marketing program. But despite their claims to have legitimate products or services to sell, these fraudsters simply use money coming in from new recruits to pay off early stage investors. But eventually the pyramid will collapse. At some point the schemes get too big, the promoter cannot raise enough money from new investors to pay earlier investors, and many people lose their money. ... Read more
