Sea Shadow-Slight Spoiler
Yet another good WHI book. This was probably one of my favorites. Kit finally gets his horse, a pewter mare (I think) named Medusa. She sounds pretty, and Cricket seemed nice, too. It was maybe a little surprising when Duxelles helped a foal.

"Phantom Stallion: Wild Horse Island #6: Sea Shadow" is a wonderful book about a 13-year-old girl named Darby Leilani Kealoha Carter and her half-wild mustang named Hoku (which means star in Hawaiian), who live on the island of Moku Lio Hihiu with Darby's Grandpa. When earthquakes start shaking the island everything changes. When one creates a tsunami just off the coast the wild horses of the island are in trouble. After getting stranded on a dangerous hilltop, it's up to Darby and her friends to save the herd. But, after the lead mare, Medusa, is injured she refuses to go a shore.

Will Darby and her friends be able to save Medusa? You'll have to read "Phantom Stallion: Wild Horse Island #6: Sea Shadow" to find out.Terri Farley did an excellent job on "Phantom Stallion #6." I have read many of her books before and I thought it was interesting how she incorporates characters from her previous books into "Phantom Stallion #6." It isn't even hard for a reader to understand the words she writes in Hawaiian because; she has an index in the back that tells you what they mean.

I would say "Phantom Stallion: Wild Horse Island #6: Sea Shadow" By Terri Farley is a book for any reader, especially anyone who loves horses.I loved this book and hope to be able to read more in the series of "Phantom Stallion: Wild Horse Island."

Sea Horse
This book was fun to read at times, though it did start to drag and get a little dull at times. The story tells of Lisa and her parents visiting the island of San Marco for New Years. Lisa starts the horseback riding program there only to fall off twice and start to doubt her riding ability. Carole thought that anything to do with horses was fun, but training Starlight seems more like work, and finds that it would be more fun if her friends were there. Stevie wants to find the perfect gown for a New Year's party at Phil's school. She has a terrible time trying to find the perfect one only to find out that it's not formal at all! The book was fun for any reader who enjoys the saddle club as much as I do. The series is great, it teaches you a lot, and stimulates into human behavior as well as a horses'. Highy reccommended.

Meanwhile back at home, Carole's training her new horse and Stevie's shopping for a dress to wear on a New Year's Eve date. I liked this book. Although at times it got a little boring. I thought it was neat that Lisa rode a horse named Jasper. That's my horse's name too. Makes kids see if they can make animals
This is a very good book for kids aged 5 to 10. It encourages kids to try and make some of the fruit or vegetable animals they see in the book. I made a banana octopus. It is also good for schools to do crafts.

Thanks to the author for making this book's characters out of fruits and vegetables. It's so interesting.

Excellent Book for Little Ones
My 15-month-old son has loved this book since I began reading it to him at 6 months old.The colors and pictures really keep his attention and as I read, we count the characters so that he can learn his numbers.The rhyming words have certainly helped his vocabulary.Now he can even finish each sentence for me as we read the book together!He loves it.I highly recommend this book.

great writer
Enjoy Robert Parker books a lot.Spenser is wonderful and so is Hawk.This was not my favorite story line it was fun and a good read.I am a big fan of Parker and am sorry for his death and the loss of his characters, humor and stories.

Taming a Seahorse
Big fan but I didn't like all the '' fluff'' description.It didn't add to the story, it just added more pages to the book.Not RBP's tried & true style.

Literary Mystery
This is a good mystery and page-turner by a very literate author.The book is
fast-paced and interesting.I liked that Parker brought in the names of historical
figures such as Frederic Law Olmsted and Elinor Smeal.It makes the reading a
lot of fun.

Classic Spenser
Another Robert B. Parker classic. His Spenser is original, entertaining and always leaves you wanting more. Highly recommend this author for great reading.

The Greatest
Robert B Parker is the greatest author of all time as measured by quality and quantity. Hemingway, Dostoyevski, Faulkner, et. al. wrote 2 or 3 great books, each of which even Mr. Parker would acknowledge superior to any of his works. But no author has ever consistently produced high quality entertainment virtually every year for over 30 years! No one. This book is not his best, but it is a good example of how he can call upon old characters from former books and weave a new tale of humor, suspense and just plain entertainment. Raymond Chandler said his objective was to write mystery novels that readers could enjoy even if the last ten pages were missing. Parker has acheived that objective more than 30 times. ... Read more

If You Love Horses....
If you were a fan of Marguerite Henry's Misty of Chincoteague, you will love this warm and magical story about Faelen, The Horse from the Sea.This is a wonderful read no matter how old you are. A Great Read
Holmes delivers a gripping journey into 16th century Ireland and the history of the Connemara pony. One can almost smell seaweed, bracken, and the sweet breath of the beautiful Spanish horse washed up on the shore--soon to mingle his blood with that of the indomitable native mountain ponies. Cheers for the courage of common little crofter's daughter, Nora, in defying fear and Brittish tyranny in order to try to save the young Catholic nobleman, Jose, and the magnificent stallion, Lir; cheers as well for the message of letting go when we must. The reader is left hoping that Nora, Jose, Lir (and his offsping) might meet again!

The Horse from the Sea - A book about history and adventure
This book's story line is about a girl who finds a Spanish warhorse and rescues a Spanish sailor named Jose. Her name is Nora and she spends her time riding wild mountain ponies and mostly a wild pony named Dunlin. The stallion is named Lir. Nora lives in Ireland and looks like it too. She wears a red cloak.

Victoria Holmes, the author, grew up on a farm in England and learned how to ride ponies at the age of two. While she is not riding she is either reading or writing her own books. Today she is working as a Children's book editor. Victoria Holmes writes her books about horses and things like that. She is a very good author.

I think this book is very well written because the author puts in a lot of interesting details. The author keeps her readers hooked for a long time because she keeps her story very exiting. I also like this novel because it's the only one like it that I've ever read. This book is the third best book I have ever read.

You should read this book because it is very exhilarating and it is full of action and suspense. It gives you all kinds of feelings and you want to clench your fists or even cry. I loved it and I'm looking forward to reading others just like it in the future.

A beautifully written story by Victoria Holmes


The Horse From the sea, is a beautifully written story by Victoria Holmes. The way the story is written really draws you into the world of Ireland and Nora love for horses. The description of Horse behavior is excellently drawn out, making envisioning the animal very easy. The story line for the book was well thought out and thankfully didn't turn out to be another "young adventurous girl defies her family to save [insert objects/person here]" scenario, because I wouldn't have read it otherwise.



The chapters are not too lengthy to my great delight and explain pretty much what they were meant to do without losing the focus on the certain moment. The large variety of characters, spanning from the Irish, Spanish, and English Army characters were very fascinating in the term of the word. None of them ever felt dull or boring, or just some plot device to move Nora, Jose, and Lir's story along through the book. Jose was probably the most interesting male character in this story.



He lacked the usual stereotypical male dominance, arrogance, and self-assured personality I've seen in many male characters in books. The emotion of the story can be felt near the very end of the book, when Jose, Lir and Nora part ways once the objective is achieved. But all in all, The Horse from the sea is an enjoyable read I would recommend to anyone. ... Read more

Poetic but with Technical Setbacks
This is a novel with gorgeous, even lyrical passages, yet in my view, considerable technical setbacks.

Why do i like Mishima? Becouse he was trained as a lawyer, and from the many years of discerning the nuances of legal practice, he developed a style of writing, that is structured, concise, and sometimes pompous. Concurrently, there is a dark tendency in his writing to place his characters irrationally attracted to themes relating to death, suicide, romantic tragedy or nihilism. The combination of these seemingly opposite forces, creates a mood of unsettling, and reckless passion.

When i read that Kiyoaki, who in Spring Snow had been endowed with an almost supernatural beauty, returned reincarnated in Isao, who was peerless on his purity of intent, i couldn't put the book down. Mishima created such a beautiful case for the purity of dying in defense of Japan and the emperor, that even me, who is on the opposite side of the political spectrum, was rooting for Isao to go ahead with his mission and inevitableseppuku.

If the book would have finished with the ritualistic suicide, it would have actually been beautiful. I won't recount the details of the plot, but there is an unfortunate twist that completely alters the sentiment of the idealistic and poetic opening pages. The denouement creates an anti-climax that forces the reader to question the validity of the values professed initially by the protagonist, to then again in a haste, switched back the storyline to a romantic conclusion in order to salvage the book. I found this thematic ambivalence, a source of irritation and a technical setback that undermines the quality of the book as a whole. Therefore I gave it four starts.

Still with parts of its body and soul in the ancient tradition of the East, yet with ever increasing impulses towards the "Western culture" (In the insemitically correct reality, we of the "West" have infinitely more in common with the traditional culture of the East than we do the current world-wide Weimar Republic, but oh well). Mishima, the author, was more or less a Japanese representative of the "conservative revolution", and was quite well-read in both Eastern and Western literature. His life reminds me in many ways of Corneliu Codreanu and Julius Evola. His well-known dramatic ritual suicide as a protest against the betrayal of Tradition in Japan, and the Japanese submission to American rule, followed him and his radical "Right-wing" organization's (The Shield Society) failure to arouse the Japanese Defence Force into rebelling.

The story of this second book in the brilliant tetralogy known as "The Sea of Fertility" takes place in roughly a year; from 1932-33. These years were marked by increasingly instable political relations in Japan, between those wishing for return to the Tradition of Japan, and those wishing for Japan to become merely another land open to unbridled capitalism and leftist eroding of the Traditional culture. As the four books are also great venues for Mishima to give his view of society, we find the theme of reincarnation quite prominent in the books. Isao Iinuma is the main character, and the reincarnation of Kiyoaki Matsugae, from the previous novel; "Spring Snow". He is working with a group of other dedicated youths and young adults to achieve a society where his Royal Highness; Emperor Hirohito, can take a much more prominent place in ruling the Empire of the Sun, instead of the soulless capitalists as things were then. The group plans to assassinate several leaders of the zaibatsu, and wrest control of the Empire back into the hands of the reactionary monarchists. Make no mistake about it, this book is as "Right-wing" as you can get, there's no explaining away Mishima's obvious political and religious views after you've read this marvellous book. As Mishima writes on page 392; "Japan, [...], where the Emperor was held to be the head of the vast family that was the Japanese people."

You simply have to read this, if you have any interest at all in the period, in Mishima, in monarchism or in a good read at all. 5 stars without a doubt, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I try myself to live in the spirit of Mishima, since as he says; "To know and not to act, is not yet to know".

This natural history traces the life cycle of a Barbour's Sea Horse. The facts are presented clearly and are supported by outstanding illustrations. The author has also provided an index and encourages young readers to use it -- not common in a picture book aimed at young readers.

Tamzin is trying hard to come to terms with the loss of Moonlight, whom she now knows is the Blue Horse, the kind spirit who is trying to protect her. Although the evil spirit of the Grey Horse has been quiet for some time, Tamzin is inexplicably drawn towards a rocky outcrop just off the coast and goes out in a little boat to investigate. Soon she realises it is a trap and the Grey Horse has succeeded in capturing her in his den. Her blue talisman isn't powerful enough to summon up the Blue Horse, until she spots a small fragment of blue glass - the missing piece of her bracelet. The Blue Horse and the Grey Horse face each other for the final time while Tamzin tries desperately to escape. With the help of the Blue Horse, her friends and her Nan, Tamzin reaches safety and the spirit of the Grey Horse is recaptured forever.
