Sea Otter Cove is an excellent tool for helping children develop relaxation skills. The rythymic words help soothe and comfort the children when they are reading it, the ongoing continuous practice the kids use as they go along seems to come more naturally to them rather than just tlaking it out. I would highly recommend this book along with the cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars clinicans and moms will love this book

This is a fabulous tool for any clinician or mom. I bought it for work as a child trauma therapist, the kids love it. It has helped them get to sleep, decreased night terrors, and has helped open the door to the children recognizing what happed was not their fault. As a mom...I began using it at home with my 11 year old son who has test anxiety and being bullied due to dyslexia. We listen before bed and the morning of the big tests and he is off to school with confidence in a relaxed state.

Product Description
This lively book tells young readers everything they want to know about the life and behavior of the southern sea otter, its northern cousin, and lesser-known river otters. Forty color photographs by 13 exceptional wildlife photographers show the otter at work and play, while range maps show both current and historic locations of the otters. It's all here for the budding biologist or zoologist, or the just-plain-curious kid: otter methods of courtship and reproduction, eating habits, and the animal's complex relationship with humankind, including how these playful animals continue to be threatened by oil spills and the encroachment of human society. An "Otter Secrets" section presents "amazing but true" characteristics of the otter, while the "To Learn More" page points curious readers to related websites, books, organizations, videos, and DVDs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, visually and fact finding
My 8 year old loves otters and had to do a book report. When she found this book it was an ideal selection. The photography is done by 13 photographers and many fantastic shots. It too was a great source of information that covered all areas of their lives; The history of their return from near extinction, their daily struggles for survival, habitat, mating, mothering and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy and share this book, you'll be glad you did!
I think I'm biased, sea otters are my favorite animal, this has beautiful photography and the text is a nice size even for younger readers, thank goodness because I bought this to share with my son, turning 7 soon. The photos of course really got his attention, but the facts are also fun and easy to grasp. I just love looking at the pictures, who can't get enough of the adorable sea otter's face? Very interesting, too. Recommended, I hope to bring it to my son's 2nd grade class to read and share with the kids. I know they'll love it ... Read more

Or, that they have the thickest fur of any animal on earth.Or, that the male otter will try to kidnap a baby for food ransom.Parents will enjoy reading this book to their little ones and the beautiful artwork will delight both parent and child.Ms. Tatham has taken real life facts and presented them in an exciting and interesting way.The baby sea otter faces many of the same things a child faces in life. The mother cares for the baby sea otter. She provides shelter and protection, until the baby grows big enough to fend for itself. As the baby grows, the days are filled with fun playing with the other pups and floating on a raft. But the tension builds when an eagle dives from the sky, thinking the baby sea otter would make a tasty evening meal.As the baby grows it ventures off on its own, but it soon realizes there are still things to learn, when it has a close encounter with a shark. At the age of three the young sea otter is ready to mate and the cycle starts all over again. This book is perfect for children 4-8 years old and for adults who enjoy the beauty of a good picture book and relish learning along with their children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute Story!
My family and I met Lootas at the Seattle Aquarium in October 2009.She touched the heart of my 8-year-old son.He is a very compassionate child, and he felt bad for Lootas and the loss of her mother. He was very happy that she is living a happy life at the Aquarium and she is a mom and a grandma herself now.She splashed and played while being fed when we were there. So we purchased this book as a gift to my son's 3rd grade class. He presented the story of Lootas to his classmates who were very eager to read about the Little Waver Eater and how she was orphaned. My son loved the story so much that he wanted a copy of the book to add to his books at home, so I purchased the book from Amazon.com.It arrived within days and my son has read the story many times over.

It is a true story told in a way that young kids can relate. They can see the good work done to save Lootas and other animals when they are orphaned. And should you ever find yourself in Seattle, be sure to stop by to say "hi" to Lootas yourself...she loves the attention!!!
