One Creed, One Goal - One Team

A legend is born in 1954 with the covert landing of four agents on a night-blackened Asian beach. Now those men and their comrades in arms have come together to remember those days.

This is the saga of the best and the bravest: the U.S. Navy SEALs, leading top-secret hunter-killer teams from the Tonkin Gulf to the NVA-owned hills along the Cambodian border. It is a story of friends and strangers coming together at the heart of a secret war; of honor; of freedom; of pain and sacrifce and grim lessons learned under fire in the kingdom of death. 4-0 out of 5 stars And I thought it was Non-fiction....
Well for starters, I was lead to believe this was nonfiction...
This is a REAL SMOOTH reading about the S.E.A.L./U.D.T. teams.I was impressed with the details they enthralled me.Each chapter takes place in a bar with members that made it back to the states and they are talking about different scenarios, with different men and missions. It is a must read, but with it being fiction, it only gets 4 stars. So the final question is in the appendix...is IT all true???????

4-0 out of 5 stars Never Boring!
I liked this book alot. Each of the chapters covered a different operation and was very fast paced.Vietnam era SEAL/UDT operations were covered extensively and with a human touch. My only complaint (kind of abig one for me), and the reason I didn't give it a five star, is that thepackaging of this paperback leads the reader to believe this is a work ofnon-fiction.The front and back cover do not mention this is fiction, andonly once I got home did I notice the word fiction on the spine.Theauthor states in his review these stories are based on fact.I just wonderwhat is fiction and what is non-fiction.Other than this personalcomplaint this is probably the most readable and flowing book on SEALs thatI have read.Enjoy it but know it's ficton. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the official u s navy seal workout
The book was just what my son need to prepare and continue his quest to be a navy seal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easier to understand the workout
I've read a few of the SEAL workout books that are out and I think this one does the best job of laying out a simple fitness plan for the average Joe non-SEAL. Some of the other books that deal with pyramids, levels and regimens are not adaptable to the average guy in a gym. Flach's book is brief, concise, describes the excercises and how to perform them pretty easily. What I like best is the chapter on the actual fitness plan. Where other books describe the exercises and leave you wondering, "What do I do now???", this book lets you determine & categorize your ability level-- then outlines a M,T,W,Th,F,S schedule you can easily follow. It's good at letting you know what to do next... unlike some others that outline the Navy's PT regimen and make you spend time deciphering it into a plan you can bring to the gym.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good workout book, but also pretty basic...
If you're interested in military fitness, you will find the exercise regime in this book to be quite unique and effective. This book is geared more towards those of us who did not go through any sort of military boot camp yet are facinated specifically by the elite US Navy SEALs.This book provides a basic, progressive workout program (push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, dips, running, swimming, etc). I was slightly disappointed to see how concise this book was in terms of workout routines, but there is enough provided to develop good workout systems. There are other Navy SEAL books out there with much more in-depth info, but some of those books are meant for more "hard core" people or individuals actually interested in becoming a SEAL.I don't know about you, but I'm not trying to be a SEAL.I just wanna stay fit. With that said, I enjoyed this book and I generally do body weight resistance exercises over weight training anyway simply because it's more convenient and less straining on the muscles, joints and bones. You can do most of the exercises demonstrated in this book just about anywhere (no gym membership required!) and these workout routines can be performed by youngsters and grown-ups alike (not recommended for the elderly however). This book was good reading and it helped me fine-tune my prior workout routines.I recommend this book. Hooyah!

3-0 out of 5 stars correction about the PST pull-up requirement
The authors say that the Physical Screenig Test (PST) requires 8 pull-ups. This criterion should read, "minimum of 6 pull-ups", not 8.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Fitness Book
Like most military workout books there is a lot of pushups, situps and so on. But this book adds in variation pushups, abs and leg excercises that most of the other books lack. I have several other books that just show pushups and a few ab excersises but not enough to make a whole workout from.

Another big thing I love about this book is that it doesn't just give you one workout. There are several completely different workouts. If you don't want to do the walking lunges and squats then just do the routine that is mostly upper body and cardio. ... Read more

Product Description

The U.S. Navy SEALs have long been considered among the finest, most courageous, and professional soldiers in American military history—an elite fighting force trained as parachutists, frogmen, demolition experts, and guerrilla warriors ready for sea, air, and land combat. Born out of a proud naval tradition dating back to World War II, the first SEAL teams were commissioned in the early 1960s. Vietnam was their proving ground.

In this remarkable volume, fifteen former SEALs—most of them original founding team members, or "plankowners"—share their vivid first-person remembrances of action in Vietnam. Here are honest, brutal, and relentlessly thrilling stories of covert missions, ferocious firefights, and red-hot chopper insertions and extractions, revealing astonishing little-known truths that will only add strength to the enduring SEAL legend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal on Navy SEALs
There are an increasing number of books being published about U.S. Navy SEALs, but HUNTERS & SHOOTERS is one of the best, especially about the era when Navy SEALs served in Vietnam.

The editor of this book, Bill Fawcett, gathered 15 former SEALs and asked them to relate their experiences. Some of their tales are short, others are longer, but they all have the ring of truth.

The SEAL Teams matured during the Vietnam War when their mission was to identify, disrupt and eliminate where possible the leadership infrastructure of the Viet Cong. The SEALS served primarily in the Mekong Delta and over the course of the six years that they served in country, they were able to provoke deadly fear into the Viet Cong leadership. In some cases, the SEAL platoons operated individually in the Delta, though frequently with the support of Vietnamese SEALs (who were trained by the American SEALs).In other instances, the SEALs were attached to the PHOENIX program, advising Provincial Reconaissance Units (PRU's) who were often ex-Viet Cong who had turned on their communist colleagues.

The PHOENIX program became a target for anti-war protesters in the late 60's and early 70's, but in fact the program was probably the most effective operation the Americans undertook in terms of inflicting damage on the Viet Cong infrastructure.Frank Thornton and Mike Boynton give the most enlightened accounts of their PHOENIX/PRU experiences.

The writer should note that he himself served as a SEAL in Vietnam, so this favorable critique of HUNTERS & SHOOTERS is based on first-hand knowledge of SEAL operations. The hope from this end is that Fawcett or some other editor will compile a similar book about SEAL operations in the Middle East, including Afghanistan, to give the SEALs in those conflicts their own recognition for their efforts on behalf of our country's security.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hunters & Shooters
I love the fact that this story was written with 15 different voices.Often times people would try to shell out 15 separate books instead, but I like the weaving interplay of the stories as they go into around and through one another.

This truly does (as another reviewer said) give the impression of an oral history and stories as they'd be told around a camp fire, very enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book toaccompanySEAL military histories
The great thing about this oral history is that you get a personal feel for the characters as they talk about their experiences. The wide range of experiences are reflected in the wide range of personalities that the history is drawn from. The accounts are honest and sincere. Each account begins with a brief editorial introduction and summary of a different aspect of the SEALs unit formation and operational history in Viet Nam. This helps the reader to understand the subject as a broad total of experiences rather than just a bundle of yarns slapped together. The editor did a great job of putting the accounts in an informative sequence which gave this reviewer a greater background understanding of the following accounts as I progressed through the book.
I bought my copy during a visit to the SEAL/ UDT Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida and I strongly recommend other interested military buffs to buy this book and check out the museum. Well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put this one down
This was a great book!! I started it on a Friday & was finished by Sunday. 15 great stories told by the men who lived it. A must read if you enjoy SEAL books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Famous "Survivor" included in book
I haven't read this book, but I did notice that the first chapter isdevoted to Rudy of "Survivor" fame, who holds the record forlongest service in naval special warfare. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A complete and thorough guide that every professional service provider must read
Before Seal the Deal!, I had never seen a book so thoroughly cover -- and tie together -- sales, marketing and networking.

Suzi Pomerantz has thoughtfully arranged this book in a way that makes it all flow together in an easy-to-understand format. She covers it ALL, and does so with such grace, expertise and ease.

I'm nominating this book into our book club and I'm confident that the other members will gain as much wisdom (and enjoyment) from Seal the Deal! as I have. It's sure to spark plenty of stimulating conversations.

Great books are so key to our business success and this one goes on my short list of recommended must-reads for any professional service provider. You'll be so glad you read this book. Well done, Suzi Pomerantz!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT- easy read- show you how - practical - grow your business tool!
Ms. Pomerantz quotes many of the greatest business minds and business books of our times. She practises what she preaches and has the proof that it works - her business is booming! This GREAT piece of teaching/reading knowledge is one for you to pick up and share. What an excellent business book to use as a total teaching tool for ourselves, or a sales team or share with your peers. What a refreshing change, especially in these economic times! It's like going to a class, but on your time, with an excellent, learned professor, who wants to share all their knowledge and experiences. A prof that is a lot of fun and can get anything across to you - You know the kind - you just never want to miss their class!

The author starts you off by asessing YOUR needs! Go figure- she actually has you assess your needs, and then helps you help yourself throughout the book! She makes this easy to read piece a way for you, as she shows you PRACTICAL ways to do it, grow and develop in areas of relationship building, sales, contacting people (the dreaded cold calls, which to her are warm and fuzy ones!)administration, collaboration and much, much more, that YOU need to grow your business or your sales structure and teams.

You don't have to go over things you're already good at though, she has it sectioned off in course chapters, so cover just the essentials that you really need to work on, that's also why you need to do the assessment at the beginning, and you can go back and forth between the lessons too!

Ms. Pomerantz delivers the right ways of getting relationships with clients, and even competition, on the right track - collaborating, to get you the positive, long term results we all need, especially in the economic times we are in. I really have to say, this is not just an good book, it's an EXCELLENT Teacher!

Are you a coach or lawyer struggling to attract the right clients in these difficult economic times? "Seal the Deal!" by Suzi Pomerantz is a tremendous resource to help you focus all of your networking, marketing and sales initiatives.

I'm a consulting psychologist and executive coach in the San Francisco, California Bay Area specializing in helping companies and law firms assess, select, coach and retain emotionally intelligent leaders and lawyers. A lot of my marketing efforts have been more passive (article writing, website, media interviews etc.). "Seal the Deal" got me to change my mindset to spend a lot more effort in these tumultuous times on sales.

I love Suzi's coach approach to relentlessy set up appointments with potential clients. I am also fully supportive of her high level of professionalism regarding having the confidence to be appropriately paid for your consulting and coaching services and not offering free "sample sessions".

I have been recommending "Seal the Deal!" to many of my executive coaching and leadership development clients. My clients also report that Suzi's sage advice is helping them achieve higher levels of success.

"Seal the Deal!" is the perfect antidote to feeling stressed out about the economy and focusing your energy more productively on getting new business. Suzi's voice goes with me now whenever I make a sales call!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential information for new and seasoned coaches...
This book would have been really helpful early on in my career, but it's never too late to change mindsets about growing our businesses.Pomerantz has captured a unique style of conveying this extremely helpful business building advice - through teleclass format and conversation.I felt like I was in the room too, with questions waiting to be answered. What a great study.I highly recommend this as the text book for building business from the ground up.In other words, do it right the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book every day!
This book has translated into a complete mindset shift for me!
As soon as I had finished it, I wondered who to call. I picked up the phone to call a lead I thought I had lost 6 months ago. Thirty minutes later I had a deal!!! I would never have thought of calling that person again prior to reading Suzi's book.

What worked very well for me?
It is specific to consultants and coaches (I am a coach).
I can very easily see myself in situation and therefore the format of a teleclass transcript worked very well for me. To give you an example, one morning when reading in the metro I caught myself answering to Jeremy (one of the participants of the teleclass in the book) that Suzi had given him the answer to his question two pages before....
The advices she is giving are very practical and hands on.
France could certainly use a french translation.
Thank you so much Suzi, you made a difference to my business. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars My son and I disagree
My son loves Alfred Kropp. He's 11.I do not love Alfred Kropp.I'm 36.I think the dialogue is inane, the story eye roll-worthy, while my son loves everything about this book.
I read it aloud to him and my other two boys. They usually fell asleep after the first few paragraphs.
This story centers on Alfred and how he gets swept up in a plot to take over the world. The secret organization OIPEP calls him in to help them find Mike who has stolen the Greater and Lesser Seals of Solomon.Alfred is there to help and yet no one will tell him why they need him or how he can help.He pretty much bumbles his way through the story, coming in to his own only at the very end.

I asked my son why he liked this book so much.He couldn't tell me, except to say, "I don't know, Mom.It's funny."

4-0 out of 5 stars not as good as the first....but still very entertaining
My 13 year old son and I are really enjoying this series. The first book was awesome. This book was good, but not as good as the first. If you are looking for reading material about a young teen struggling through peer acceptance who just happens to be the last living relative of Lancelot (lots of sci-fi/fantasy in these books), you'll enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, furious, intelligent thriller for everyone.
The best fiction being written right now is for young adults.I've read Harry Potter, but only as I have begun to write young adult fiction myself have I started to enjoy the vast array of terrific modern children's literature that is available to adults. We don't even have to have a special library card to get into the kid's section!

Alfred Kropp came to my attention because Rick's third novel, "The Thirteenth Skull" bears the same name as my third novel. This is a lucky coincidence, because Rick Yancy is a great writer and I'm thrilled to add him to my list of "must buy" authors.(When you start pre-ordering the hardcovers, you know you're hooked.)

Start out with "The extraordinary adventures of Alfred Kropp."Kropp is a young hero, insecure, unsure, and not very brave. When he ends up stealing the great sword Excalibur, the action kicks into high gear and never lets up.The Seal of Solomon is the second book and it's better, faster, and even more intense.

There's a lot of heads flying in these novels, and more than the usual share of gore.So your kids will love them.Leave the books lying around and tell them they can't read these, they have too much action and bloody fight scenes. Then pretend you don't notice when they are missing.

Don't forget to read them first, though.Like Harry Potter, these books are for everyone.I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast paced and exciting!
I haven't been able to get my hands on the first Alfred Kropp book yet but after having read this book, I definitely will. This book has all the ingredients that makes a book exciting - adventure, danger and even some softer moments like when Alfred thinks of his dead mum or is compassionate towards his treatment of Kenny, the other foster child living at the Tuttles. A good book which I didn't want to put down!

After finding, and then losing, his father, Bernard Samson, a billionaire, then discovering himself as the last direct descendant of the famed knight, Sir Lancelot, retrieving King Arthur's sword, Excalibur, and, finally, surviving his own death in THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF ALFRED KROPP, Alfred, naturally, now finds life a tad dull.

Except for the new sport at school called "Kropping" -- a practice of daily harassment and humiliation recently adopted by his classmates -- his life has pretty much returned to normal. Boring. It seems his days of saving the world with OIPEP are over.

Until someone ordered his extraction and he is kidnapped. He awakens aboard a ship, foggy and disoriented. In no time, he's forced out of a plane over the Arabian Desert and is preparing to speed across the dunes on sand-foils at 150 miles per hour.

Their target? The Hyena, a terminated OIPEP agent who has stolen the Seals of Solomon. The Great Seal, a ring, and the Lesser Seal, also known as the Holy Vessel, must be intercepted before the Lesser Seal is broken, releasing evil the world has not seen for 3,000 years. But they are too late. They find the Lesser Seal has been compromised and once again Alfred is thrust into the role of unlikely hero.

I guarantee that once you start this book you will be unable to put it down. Rick Yancey is the master of cliffhanger chapter endings. His descriptions are at once gross and fascinating. Alfred is endearing and funny, and epitomizes the hero in all of us. Who doesn't have the childish dream to save the world and be a hero? Through Alfred Kropp, the reader can live that dream.

Rick Yancey has created an engaging character in Alfred. This reader eagerly awaits many more Alfred Kropp adventures!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I loved this book! It gives the reader a wonderful taste of the wilds of Scotland and of "croft life." I like to imagine living like this. Though this book tends to jump around, that makes it more interesting. It is a perfect gift for the animal or nature lover: the descriptions of the landscape and Rowena's relationship with the animals she cares for are beautiful and touching.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is my most treasured book !
I came across Seal Morning many years ago, even then I had it with me for a long time before I read it. I found it by fate, when I was going through old unused lockers in my old school. I didn't know why I kept it but afterDEFINITELY more than 2 yrs then was I compelled to read it. It is a bookthat brought joy & sadness all the same. It appeals to all of us wholove animals. The way it was written without any chronological contraint,is refreshing. It comes across as an account, or maybe as a documentationbut rarely is it anonymous as there're many poignant moments Rowena shareswith us. Her animals were her friends & she was theirs, & in thesolitude of the hills this couldn't be more true !! ... Read more

A tale of heroism and exploit in the tradition of Robert E. Howard...

Enter Remy, a quick-witted courier whose dangerous freight leads him into the vanguard of an ancient war between forces of light and the rising tide of shadows that threatens to overwhelm the burgeoning civilizations of the Two Rivers Gulf.

The story opens with Remy alone and near death after an encounter with several stormclaw scorpions. His horse dead and poison sapping his strength, Remy collapses with his package at his side, undelivered. When he awakes, he is in the company of a band of adventurers who found him by the side of the road and nursed him back to health.  Among them is a grim dragonborn paladin named Biri-Daar, whose wariness of the magical seals on Remy’s freight is outweighed by an overwhelming sense of duty to those in need.

As they journey on, the nature of Remy’s package becomes a greater and greater curiosity.  Soon the party, which has come to comprise some six-strong adventurers, finds itself to be the lynchpin that holds an army of netherworld forces at bay.

Award-winning author and veteran shared-world writer Alex Irvine brings his unique characters and considerable storytelling talents to bear in the world of Dungeons & Dragons®. ... Read more

Product Description

Controversy arises whenever and wherever the sealing industry is discussed. But the modern-day anti-sealing movement is very new in comparison with the industry it opposes. This comprehensive history begins with the opening of American trade with China, and follows the industry wherever North Americans have sought seals for their fat or their skins, from New England to Australia, from Cape Horn to the California coast. All the many species of seals hunted received due consideration, as do walruses and sea otters, also part of the larger sealing industry. Above all, this book studies the fur seals of the Bering Sea and the harp seals of the Newfoundland hunt, detailing the consequences of an industry's killing of more than 50,000,000 seals in 150 years. Busch weighs this toll against the economic benefits that sealing brought to a great many people in cities along both North American coasts.Based on extensive research into primary and published sources, Busch's history provides conservationists, naturalists, historians, and general readers with new information and new perspectives on a subject of continuing world interest.

SEALS THE WARRIOR BREED: ENDURING FREEDOM

Jay H. Riker

The tenth book in the successful SEALS THE WARRIOR BREED series finds the elite members of the Navy SEALs facing their first test in combat after September 11th – in Afghanistan.

In the past, the SEALs have fought for different reasons. In World War II, they fought for freedom, determined to halt the Nazi war machine before it was too late. In Vietnam, they fought for loyalty, willing to risk their lives if it meant protecting their fellow soldiers. Now the place is Afghanistan, and the SEALs will be fighting for something even more personal––revenge.

In the first military action after September 11th, the SEALs are assigned to Afghanistan, the home of the Taliban and a breeding ground for Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. The SEALs know that the men responsible for the most deadly attack on American soil in the country's history could be around the next dune, or inside the next village, and they're determined to get the job done...no matter the cost.

The ever–expanding fan base interested in the U.S. Navy SEALs. This is the fiction series about that elite force.

Fans of the previous books in this series.

Readers who enjoy H.Jay Riker's new submarine series, The Silent Service.

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid post-9/11 military adventure with more substance than you might expect
"Enduring Freedom," by H. Jay Riker, is the story of a team of Navy SEALs whose duty takes them on a mission to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attack against the United States. The book's title references Operation Enduring Freedom, the military campaign against the Taliban regime and the Al Qaeda terrorist organization. In an afterword dated Spring 2005, the author states, "This is a work of fiction, based on real-world events."A blurb on the back cover notes that this novel is book ten in the "SEALs The Warrior Breed" series; the preceding volumes are listed inside the front cover, and include such titles as "Medal of Honor" and "Silver Star.""Enduring Freedom" opens with a prologue dated September 11, 2001; the rest of the sections of the narrative are also dated, and span from December 27, 2001 to January 1, 2002.

Riker is a good storyteller; although this novel is substantial in size at 426 pages, it is a fast and entertaining read. The book does have its flaws. At times the narration and dialogue struck me as being corny or cliched. Also, a debate between two characters on the purpose of the war in Afghanistan is poorly developed by the author. But overall I was impressed at how Riker intelligently incorporated some important themes into the adventure narrative.Particularly interesting is the theme of SEALs dealing with issues of cross-cultural insight as they operate in foreign environments; Riker's SEALs are challenged to use their intellect and diplomatic skill in addition to their muscles and prowess with weapons. Also significant is the book's critique of the "Rumsfeld Doctrine" of warfare.Riker also explores the mechanics by which different organizations--SEALs, the CIA, anti-Taliban Afghans, etc.--work together in combat operations. And while the book presents an overall positive image of the U.S. military, Riker also touches on the potential moral ambiguities of the Afghanistan campaign.

The book covers action not just in Afghanistan, but also in other locales, and at times has an entertaining sort of "James Bond" flavor. There is plenty of explosive combat action.I liked how Riker incorporated real-world events and people into the story--U.S. President George Bush even becomes a "character" in the book via his televised addresses to the nation in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Also worthy of note is the detailed attention Riker pays to the hardware used by his SEALs for combat, communication, and intel gathering--it's a feast for fans of technical talk. But who is H. Jay Riker?I believe the answer lies in the anthology "Future Wars," edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff (DAW Books, 2003).One of the anthology's contributors is William H. Keith, Jr., and a short paragraph notes of Keith, "Writing under the pseudonym of H. Jay Riker, he's responsible for the extremely popular _SEALS: The Warrior Breed_ series."

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but . . .
I was very excited when I knew this author would take the series into the present. For the most part this seems very accurate and as good as the Warrior Breed series that dealt with Vietnam. I am hoping he continues with the GWOT (still focusing on Afghanistan and Iraq). I was kind of surprised on one of the major details (at least I felt) in the weapons choice, primarily the MP5, which seems to be a weapon that is only used in CQB and then rarely. I was kind of disappointed by this minor detail. ... Read more
