pretty good
A nice book to learn about the SOL tests. It gives concise reviews of what kids needs to know, so you can check their readiness. The test taking tips are very useful for young students to raise scores. Informed parents can make a big difference in children's test prep. Note that such a thin book doesn't do much to improve math or reading. That requires daily learning in school and study in home. There is a nice web site www.beestar.org you can use every week to assess your child's skills step by step. With the fundamentals in place, this book helps to get a better result. ... Read more

Absolutely deplorable--would give 0 stars if it was an option
As a teacher in the Commonwealth of Virginia, I wanted to use this review book to help my students prepare for the SOL test.I was shocked and disgusted that it appeared that those who wrote this Princeton Review book forgot to review the Virginia State SOLs prior to its publication.Many items in the practice tests were not items listed by the state as essential knowledge and therefore not tested in the state end-of-course test.For example, there were test questions on Watergate as well as the Bull Moose Party.Although these are important topics in U.S. History they are not focused on by the state!This "practice test" is misleading to purchasers that this will help their students and children to prepare for this test.This test MUST be passed by Virginia students before they are allowed to graduate from High School.If you are a parent or colleague in search of a good review book for your students...keep searching because this is NOT it. ... I have been a high school English teacher for 8 years and I have used this book to help prepare my students for the English EOC SOL every year that I have been in VA. I like the layout, the explanations, and the practice tests.However the book was published in 2004 and some of the material is now outdated and useless.The SOL tests have been revised several times since then and I look forward to Barron's next publication on this subject. ... I used this book as a reference for CLEP ALgebra exam. The explanations r v simple, easy to understand. It gives good tips on solving problems. But it can only be useful for reference as it does not cover a lot of topics in Algebra.
