4-0 out of 5 stars was a gift
was in good condition, but not as good as Id have liked. Had a few pages folded and back cover was a bit creased. It was a gift for my dad and he loved it, so worth the purchase for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The History Of Tractors With Great Photographs
This is a nice book for persons involved in farming and tractors. It is an attractive large-size full-color book that is an excellent coffee table book. If you have been involved with tractors over the years, you will certainly enjoy this book's look back on the American Farm Tractors over the years.

Barnes & Noble republished this book in 2002 with the very same cover. Whether you locate the original 1991 edition or the more recent 2002 edition you will have essentially the same book.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book will definately be a "keeper".
Bought for my husband for Christmas since he comes from a few generations of tractor owners this book was the perfect gift for him to gather his son on his lap and share stories and pictures. We wish it had more pictures of more classic oldies. The brief histories given on the pictured tractors are pretty good though. I bought this book second hand, in great condition and plan on saving to give to our son when he has children so he can pass along the stories. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars N tractor book
This book covers the 9N, 2N and 8N tractors. The Jubilee is hardly mentioned; but for 128 pages it gives you a little insight into each model. It also covers experimental and tractors made for show.
Good book for a 128 pages. It could have been 3 times bigger with more pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars tractor review
The price was very reasonable and the book was delivered really quickly, excellent service.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good overview
A good overview of the Ford N series but did not have the detail I was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars correction/amendment to previous review
I previously stated that the pictures used in this edition were previously published. This statement is in error. The confusion arose because many tractors included have been seen in other works. The author assures me thatthese pictures are all new issues.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for the Ford tractor collector/restorer
Although there may be a few minor details subject to scrutiny, this work meets an important need. Replete with color and B/W photos, the authors point out the differences between the various Ford N-models, and attempt toillustrate the important details to be considered when restoring thesetractors. Paint details, variations in models and years, options, andanomalies are described in detail. As with many Motorbooks Internationalpublications, there is a tendancy to use oft-published photos, but this isnot a major concern. A section on the popular Sherman auxiliarytransmissions includes a table of various gear ratios and speed ranges.Original and aftermarket reproductionaprts are compared and the appendixincludes a pretty thorough list of suppliers. While this book is not thefinal authority on the subject, it is by far the best thing yet to come outon this topic. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift enjoyed by spouse, retired farmer
This book was purchased as a belated birthday gift for my husband. He had the previous book given to him as a gift, but had personally recently purchased a 1010 John Deere and wanted to learn more about it.The local John Deere store was selling it for $45.99; needless to say, the $34.+ I paid Amazon.com was a better buy. My husband picks it up and looks at it frequently.Thank you! This is my first purchase from Amazon.com, but would surely recommend it be considered by others.

Product Description
Cherry Hill, the best-selling author of Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage, the classic book that has guided thousands of horse owners in establishing farms, now shares her expertise in an important, related topic: equipping the horse farm.

Hill provides in-depth information on every aspect of selecting, maintaining, and using the two most essential pieces of equipment — tractors and horse trailers. Accompanied by photographs and illustrations, she guides the reader through an evaluation of the options available in tractors, from horsepower and transmission options to tires and appearance. A checklist is included detailing what to look for if considering a used tractor.

On trailers, readers will find the answers to all their questions, beginning with the kind of trucks and hookup required for towing various capacity trailers to selecting the appropriate truck hitch. The thorough discussion of trailers details options in floor plans, loading entry, suspension, and accomodations for both horses and owners: tack room, living quarters, windows and vents, lights, feeders, and more.

Hill also discusses the smaller farm implements found on many horse farms, including loaders, discs, harrows, manure spreaders, mowers, post-hole diggers, hay balers, and wagons. Equipping Your Horse Farm is an authoritative, comprehensive handbook that every horse farmer will want to consult before investing in these critical items of farm equipment. ... Read more

There are a lot of books on Hart-Parr & Oliver Tractors, but this book gives the inside development of the different models and why Oliver was the "Cadillac" of Farm Tractors.T. Herbert Morrell, Design Engineer--Oliver Corporation from around 1944 until his retirement in the early `70's.His humor, recollections, & knowledge makes for fun as well as interestering reading for all tractor collectors because many Oliver developments forced other companies to make improvements to their line of tractors.

Product Description
This colorful history explains the design, production, and marketing of the first Ford and Fordson tractors produced after the company reneged on the late Henry Ford's infamous handshake agreement with Harry Ferguson. Randy Leffingwell's evocative color photography of restored and factory-original examples depicts the classics that Ford first produced when free to market and distribute their tractors as they saw fit. Included are the 8N, notable for its illegal incorporation of Ferguson patents; the NAA, or "Jubilee," which sported the company's Golden Jubilee logo; the Fordson Major, diesel-powered New Major, and beefed up Power Major; the 600, 700, 800 and 900 Series that seriously diversified the company's tractor line; and the three-cylinder Dexta. ... I READ OTHER READERS REVIEWS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY PROJECT TRACTOR AND THANK GOD.THIS IS A VERY GOOD INSIGHTFUL ACCOUNTING OF WHAT IT TAKES TO REBUILD A TRACTOR .FOR THE BIGINNER, THIS IS A MUST!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book before you buy a restoration project
This book is a good overview of tractor restoration. It follows the restoration of a Ford 9N tractor to original parade ready condition and a Farmall to working condition. It has chapters on each section of restoration such as electrical systems, fuel system etc. While it describes the steps involved in some detail for the two tractors being documented, it notes the exceptions for others such as John Deere. This book will give you a good feel for what tractor restoration is about and it will even give you some detailed instructions for some of the work involved, but it will not be the sole resource needed. Fortunately the author is well aware of that fact and gives generous references as to where more information can be found, not just other publications, but also societies and parts dealers.
This book is well written and well organized. It has a lot of good photographs, even if many of them are in black and white. I recommend it as a good starting point, but certainly not the last word. ... Read more
