Not bad; not great
Our class was not assigned to read the entire text, but of the chapters I did read, I found the one on bilingualism to be the most informative. The other chapters seemed like big long lists of things. It appears this book is more of a reference, and I'm not sure our teacher was the best at illuminating the subject, so I can't really recommend or not recommend this book.

CTEL Prep
*****UPDATE 8/16/10 I passed all three CTEL tests by studying this book.I'm very happy.

I bought this book specifically for the CTEL test.I didn't take any prep classes, but when I got to the test, all the people that had taken the classes had the same book, so I was very relieved that I chose a good book. The test was challenging, but I think I passed at least 2 or the 3.This book was great for the test.The only thing that it didn't cover were the essays.Oh and it didn't cover how many phonemes are in certain words, but overall it was a comprehensive review for the test.I'll update this review when I find out if I passed the tests.I highly recommend this book for the CTEL test.

Not so Great
I am taking a college course focusing on ELL students. This book covers plenty but not much detail is given on many of the major parts to ELL. This book must not bring much good taste to the instructor since we are switching books halfway through the semester.

Extremely Helpful
I needed to get my CLAD certification and decided to take the CTEL exam. I was really nervous because I had heard the test was difficult. I found this book online and it was really helpful. I also bought the flashcards on amazon. Between the flashcards and this book I felt like I really learned a lot. The flashcards were great, but the book really filled in the blanks and helped me fully understand the material. For the exam it is important that you have a good handle on the information. The test is a lot of application of the information. The book gave great examples and explained everything really well! My copy is full of post-its, notes, and underlining! This will really help you out if you are looking to pass the test!

This book was the most valuable tool I used in studying for the CTEL.It has everything covered in CTEL 1, 2,& 3.It is used for a CLAD credential at many leading universities.
I took the test last week and am waiting for results.This book was so helpful.It made me feel confident when taking the test.
I highly recommend it.
