Extractions: President's Message Fall 2002 Welcome to our VEMA web page! The Vermont Educational Media Association is an organization of supporters of Vermonts school libraries. We are school library media specialists, library assistants, retired librarians, educational television specialists, instructional technology specialists and other friends of school libraries. I encourage you to join our organization. There is no better way to become professionally involved with others in our profession. Each geographical region of the state holds local VEMA meetings where you can meet with others interested in school libraries. We also sponsor an annual fall VEMA conference and co-sponsor, with the Vermont Library Association, the annual Vermont Library Conference. Membership in VEMA enables you to receive the VEMA Newsletter and includes your e-mail address in our new VEMA list serve. Through both, we can remind each other of upcoming meetings and conferences, debate issues, share good ideas, recommend new products, great books, etc. This will be a great way to lend or seek advice. VEMA members are here to support each other. We have guidelines to support policy development, information literacy, evaluation of school library media centers, job descriptions, and integration of standards. We are looking at best practices, support for our new VT Online Library, and new legislation that effects us all. VEMA is an active organization that keeps us learning and growing.
