The Mellon Legal Writing Program provides academic support to students at the Law School who wish to improve their writing, exam-taking, and study skills. Exam preparation sessions include general discussion regarding the form and substance of law school exams, as well as more specific guidance relating to particular topics and classes. I have participated in the Judicial Internship and Attorney Practice Internship Programs, the Appellate Practice and Criminal Practice Clinics. All of the Clinics provided me with excellent experiences and contacts. Most importantly, the clinics allowed me to see there are many opportunities outside of UB. I enrolled in the Appellate Practice Clinic during the summer of 2000 primarily for the experience of writing an appellate brief and having the opportunity to argue before the Court of Special Appeals. Although I was eager for what I believed would be an excellent experience, I also had several hesitations about working for the Office of the Public Defender. My father is a retired Police Officer so I was very aware that I had strong slants towards the State's Attorney's Office. I struggled with my beliefs that I would be a part of putting criminals back on the streets for what I believed were technicalities.
