Storybook of charming mammals to enchant kids as young as 1
This is actually a counting book, and certainly suitable well below the 4 to 8 year old classification given it.Wombat starts out at 10, with his 9 Tasmanian (Australia) mammal friends, and counts down through theactivities of his day with animals dropping out until just one weary wombatis left.The story and characters are really enchanting, and would catchthe eye of even a 1 year old, while the details to the story - lots ofactivity within each picture to study, pictures hidden within pictures,references to classic childrens' stories - can captivate older children andeven adults.This book has been a smash hit in our household. ... Stories Themselves are a Bit Average but Good Information Given on Animals Used as Characters
This illustrated anthology contains six short stories with Australian animals as the main characters.Those stories are Harry the Hairy-Nosed Wombat, Rufus the Red Kangaroo, Bobuck the Mountain Possum, Kolo the Bush Koala, Percy the Peaceful Platypus and Rusty the Nimble Numbat.

The stories themselves aren't as good as other Australian animal character fiction out there, but what is impressive is that parts of each story do give information on each of the animals such as diet, habitat etc, as well as broader issues such as conservation and extinction are explored as well. ...
