Read a Wonderful Article Describing Yarbrough's Life
Ms. Yarbrough, a multi-talented veteran of theater, film, dance, and song is, like her article-mates, enjoying a renewed interest in her career. Much of that attention is generated by the 2000 re-release of her spoken word CD "The Iron Pot Cooker" (Vanguard Records). One of the songs from that album ("Take Yo' Praise") was covered by British DJ Fatboy Slim. His international hit "Praise You" has since been heard in hit movies, Mercedes Benz and Wimbledon commercials, and several television shows for the past two years. Amazingly, "The Iron Pot Cooker" which was originally released in 1975, was Ms. Yarbrough's first and only recording.
Iron Pot Cooker

(Click to buy online) In a Spin Magazine review, Yarbrough was dubbed "a hip hop foremother." Some know Camille as the author of the children's classic book "Cornrows;" some know her as a spoken word artist/performer from the Black Arts Movement; others will remember her from her dance days with the esteemed Katherine Durham Dance Company; and still others will remember her from the original movie Shaft or any number of the television shows she's done. Whatever the genre, all will recognize her commitment to preserving African and African American culture. Ms. Yarbrough is available for general lectures and speaking engagements during Black History Month, Women's History Month, and National Poetry Month. However, for information on a lesser-known woman writer, a feminist writer or perspective on a writer, or in-depth information on women writers, Green has specialized sources. Finding current information about lesser-known Asian American, African American, Hispanic American, and Native American women writers is especially difficult. Since few specialized sources exist for these groups, try works on women writers and titles that examine the literature of minorities or a specific ethnic group.

DESCRIPTION A military Learjet crashes, and Washington insiders scramble to cover their tracks, in an exciting new military thriller from the author of The General. Colonel John Quinn was a young, ambitious Air Force pilot who loved to flyuntil an Iraqi missile nearly ended his career and his life. Three surgeries and four years later, Quinn is functional, but not good enough to fly. Assigned to the Pentagon, he's prepared to spend the rest of his career in a series of boring staff jobs. Then a military Learjet crashes shortly after takeoff in the rural farmlands outside Washington, and Quinn is called to lead the biggest investigation of his life. With this crash, there are no survivorsa fact that is particularly sensitive in the White House, as the jet carried just one passenger: the President's brother. The crash scene offers little in the way of clues, and while the White House is pushing pilot error as the cause of the accident, Quinn is uncertain. Too many Washington insiders, including Quinn's former wife, a Ph.D. with the National Transportation Safety Board, seem to have a stake in the outcome of his investigation. Too many dodge the hard questionsor turn up dead. Filled with great characters and told with pulsing narrative drive, The Passenger is further proof that, as W. E. B. Griffin says

and their cheap, low class attacks and general behavior are to get back on track withAfricanAmerican Harold Ford of Columnist Ted Lang courtesy of the author.
http://www.american-partisan.com/cols/2002/tedlang/qtr4/1111.htm
Displaced Democrats
by Ted Lang, Associate Editor November 11, 2002 Rush Limbaugh offers that Democrats are self-destructing as they scamper to posture themselves after their resounding electoral thrashing via the Bush Revolution last week. Dick Gephardt has stepped down as House Minority Leader, and Tom Daschle will lose his barely discernible bluster as Republicans and George Bush's chief political obstructionist. And you know Democrats have gone south when one Democrat, Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford, Jr., calls another "too liberal," describing Left Coast Lefty, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), as they spar over Gephardt's vacated position. The Republican midterm landslide has indeed displaced the Democratic Party, but it wasn't Republicans that displaced them - they did that to themselves. What really constitutes their displacement is the fact that they have progressed [intended] to where their philosophy no longer even remotely resembles the political environment desired by a majority of the American people. Democrats have energized themselves only to demonize their Republican opposition as being evil, mean-spirited, and prone to right-wing extremist Nazism. Their hatred for Republicans, their accentuation of negatives, and their cheap, low class attacks and general behavior are part of their current philosophy - and it is this adopted philosophy which constitutes the domestic aspect of the Bill Clinton legacy. The terrorist-induced carnage of 9-11 was Clinton's foreign policy and preventive intelligence legacy. To survive, as well as to provide meaningful and constructive input to American politics, Democrats need to distance themselves quickly from Clinton.

About the Book...
From the Foreword by Brad Pye Jr.
Did you know that a Black man with only a sixth grade education named, Garrett Morgan (1875-1963), invented the first traffic signal, the gas mask, and marketed the G. A. Morgan Refining Cream, which was the first hair straightening product? Did you know that Garrett Morgan made so much money from his hair cream that he was able to purchase an automobile? In fact, traffic congestion while driving his new car was motivation for Morgan’s traffic signal invention. Did you know that in 1721 an African slave, named Onesimus, taught his “master” the age-old African technique for smallpox inoculation in which a pustule from an infected person was ruptured with a thorn and then used to puncture the skin of a non-infected person? Did anyone ever tell you that the original Haitians were called the Arawaks, or Tainos, before Christopher Columbus and that they were very generous and could swim long distances?
