Endangered species in alberta, North America and elsewhere.Category Society Issues Regional North America canada alberta...... canada does not. The Canadian Federal government has now tabled Endangered SpeciesLegislation which is being opposed by many provinces, including alberta.
    http://raysweb.net/specialplaces/pages/species.html
Burrowing Owl Photo: Greg Lasley In order to protect Alberta's Endangered species, it's important to find the answers to three questions:
    • what does it mean when a species is 'endangered?'
    • which Alberta species are endangered?
    • what can be done to help them?
This page provides information that will help you find answers to the first two questions and describes some organizations and programs that are working to restore extinct species or to keep endangered species from becoming extinct. The Alberta Special Places Page tells you about Alberta's six distinct types of habitat on which species depend. It is our belief that an important way to protect species is to provide long term protection for at least a portion of their habitat. For many people, the term ' endangered species ' brings to mind well known, large animals like the African Elephant. According to the
    • 20 species of Alberta fish and wildlife are in serious risk of dying out in our province.
    • 2 species are already gone.
    • only 55 per cent of the 535 species found in Alberta are considered healthy.
So, the problem exists right here in our own backyard.

Solution An easy to use, on-line application based on the Microsoft e-business platform has automated invoice processing, enabling government employees to better invest their time in other activities. Software and Services
Automating bill payment yields tremendous savings in time and money
The seventeen Ministries of the Alberta government independently process more than 100,000 invoices every month. Clerical staff, expenditure officers and financial services had to receive, validate and authorize each invoice before payment was issued. Implementing a closed-loop, automated invoice processing system based on Microsoft technologies frees staff from tedious activities and will result in savings across government of more than $500,000 in the first year alone. In addition, vendors will also save money as they benefit from consolidated electronic payments, savings that government expects will be returned to them in improved rates.

Bills pass easier with Alberta E-Government solution
    June 2001

The government of Alberta knew that it needed to streamline account activities through automation. However, to meet this challenge, it required an easy-to-use and cost-effective solution that all ministries could benefit from.
The answer? A web-based solution that would make it possible for government employees to access billing information from anywhere in Alberta.
Upside Software, an Edmonton-based Microsoft Certified Partner submitted UpsideBilling, a solution based on Microsoft® software technologies, which proved most attractive to the Alberta government in several key areas:
    • Scalability: the UpsideBilling product is equally effective for use in a small business or within the Alberta government, with more than 25,000 employees. Accessibility: the Windows® operating system-based web technology employed means that the solution is accessible province-wide, easy to use and does not require any significant change in the duties of front-line staff.

Upside Software avoided a potential difficulty resulting from the independently developed Internet policies of 22 distinct ministries because it developed its solution in pure HTML. This means users have complete access to the solution through their Internet browser and do not have to add new components to their desktops.

    http://www3.gov.ab.ca/srd/fw/fishing/AnglerSurvey.html
Survey of Recreational Fishing in Canada The Survey of Recreational Fishing in Canada is a series of nationally co-ordinated studies conducted by Canada's federal, provincial and territorial fisheries agencies. The surveys have been carried out at five-year intervals since 1975 to develop an understanding of, and trends in, Canada's sportfishery. The 1995 survey was the fifth in the series. The report, Sport Fishing in Alberta 1995 , provides information on angler demographics, fishing pressure, fish harvest and economic benefits. Details about sportfishing in Alberta in 1995 were obtained to evaluate the importance of this fishery to the public, to anglers and to the sportfishing industry. The 2000 Survey of Recreational Fishing in Canada will be the sixth in the series of surveys held in every province and territory, for freshwater fishing and salt water fishing throughout Canada. The Fish and Wildlife Division will conduct the survey in January/February of 2001 to obtain results based on the 2000 sportfishing season. Survey questionnaires will be mailed to a random sample of residents and non-residents who purchased a sportfishing licence in 2000. Total mailing samples of 5000 Albertans, 500 other Canadians and 500 non-Canadians will be used. The survey will pose questions about the angler's experience, opinions and fishing activity including location, frequency and time spent fishing for seventeen species of fish. Expenditure information will be obtained to provide an estimate of the amount anglers are spending to obtain their fishing experience and in what expenditure areas.
