Brief Biography of
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) "...having a good start, not only do I fully intend to be the greatest architect who has yet lived, but fully intend to be the greatest architect who will ever live. Yes, I intend to be the greatest architect of all time." - Frank Lloyd Wright Considered the most influential architect of his time, Frank Lloyd Wright designed about 1,000 structures, some 400 of which were built. He described his "organic architecture" as one that "proceeds, persists, creates, according to the nature of man and his circumstances as they both change." As a pioneer whose ideas were well ahead of his time, Wright had to fight for acceptance of every new design. The famous American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, was the son of William C. Wright and Anna Lloyd Jones in the United States in the small rural community of Richland Center, Wisconsin on June 8, 1867. His early influences were his clergyman father's playing of Bach and Beethoven and his mother's gift of geometric blocks. He entered the University of Wisconsin at 15 as a special student, studying engineering because the school had no course in architecture. Wright left Madison in 1887 to work as a draftsman in Chicago. In order to study architecture and learn the traditional, classical language, Wright, the country boy, had to go Chicago. Wright worked for several architectural offices until he finally found a job with the most cultured architect of the Mid-West

The Life of Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright was born as Frank Lincoln Wright in Richland Center in southwestern Wisconsin , on June 8, 1867 (a date sometimes reported as 1869). His father, William Carey Wright, was a musician and a preacher. His mother, Anna Lloyd-Jones was a teacher. It is said that Anna Lloyd-Jones placed pictures of great buildings in young Frank's nursery as part of training him up from the earliest possible moment as an architect. Wright spent some of his time growing up at the farm owned by his uncles near Spring Green, Wisconsin (also in the southwestern part of the state). Frank Lloyd Wright was of Welsh ethnic heritage, and was brought up in the Unitarian faith Wright briefly studied civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, after which he moved to Chicago to work for a year in the architectural firm of J. Lyman Silsbee. In 1887, he hired on as a draftsman draftsman in the firm of Adler and Sullivan, run by Louis Sullivan (design) and Dankmar Adler (engineering) at the time the firm was designing Chicago's Auditorium Building . Wright eventuallly became the chief draftsman, and also the man in charge of the firm's residential designs. Under Sullivan, whom Wright called "Lieber Meister" (beloved master), Wright began to develop his own architectural ideas. In 1889 he married his first wife, Catherine Tobin. He also designed houses on his own toward the end, homes Wright called

http://www.lexised.com/architecture/wright/bio.html
Frank Lloyd Wright is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern Western architecture. His radically innovative designs, utilising a building style based on natural forms, termed by Wright as organic architecture, have stamped him as a major, respected architect. Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin., June 8, 1867 and died on April 9, 1959. It is a measure of his passion and commitment to his field that he continued working right up to the time of his death. With his reputation assured on both sides of the Atlantic, Wright began to reinforce the philosophical underpinnings of his innovative building style. In keeping with his rural leanings, Wright proclaimed that the structural principles found in natural forms should guide modern American architecture. He praised the virtues of an organic architecture that would use reinforced concrete in the configurations found in sea shells and snails and would build skyscrapers the way trees were "built"; that is, with a central "trunk" deeply rooted in the ground and floors cantilevered from that trunk, like branches. Spaces within such buildings would be animated by natural light allowed to penetrate the interiors and to travel across textured surfaces as the angle of sunlight and moonlight changed.

".. .We know that the good building is not the one that hurts the landscape, but is one that makes the
landscape more beautiful than it was before that building was built. In Marin County you have
one of the most beautiful landscapes I have seen, and I am proud to make the buildings of this
County characteristic of the beauty of the County." The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin County Civic Center, is a national and state designated historic landmark. The Marin County Civic Center, Wright's 770th commission, is the last and one of the most important works by this internationally acclaimed architect who has been described as "one of the most creative architectural geniuses of all time" and "the most original architect the United States has ever produced".
Frank Lloyd Wright died April 9, 1959, at the age of 92, and did not see his vision completed. Taliesin Senior Architect Wesley Peters and San Francisco Bay Area Taliesin Architect Aaron Green directed the completion.

Innovative Techniques and Styles
From the beginning Wright practiced radical innovation both as to structure and aesthetics, and many of his methods have since become internationally current. At a time when poured reinforced concrete and steel cantilevers were generally confined to commercial structures, Wright did pioneer work in integrating machine methods and materials into a true architectural expression. He was the first architect in the United States to produce open planning in houses, in a break from the traditional closed volume, and to achieve a fluidity of interior space by his frequent elimination of confining walls between rooms. For the Millard house (1923) at Pasadena, Calif., he worked out a new method, known as textile-block slab construction, consisting of double walls of precast concrete blocks tied together with steel reinforcing rods set into both the vertical and the horizontal joints. For seventy years he worked to push the architectural profession in America to new limits. Wright sought to create an architecture that reconciled men's and women's relationship with nature, and Wright's quest resulted in a style so successful and so innovative that, for once, instead of America's looking to Europe for new ideas, Europe's avant-garde looked to America's Prairie Style for inspiration. His influence in Europe coincides with the beginning of Modernism. At a time when architecture both in American and in Europe returned to classical styles, Wright held on to ideas he had seen in earlier exotic revivals and a uniquely American style, the Shingle Style. As first seen in the Winslow House (1893), he was inspired by the open plans popular in the Far East, and, from Japan, he borrowed the concept of the
