Corrections Argentina comes to life on campus Argentina Night at La Casa highlights Argentine culture, lifestyle by Abby Allen Contributing writer Printer-friendly version Tammy Hilaris The Daily Illini Miguel Manero, 9, plays with a drum during Argentina Night at La Casa Cultural Latina on Monday night. He came to the U.S from Peru three months ago with his family. It takes two to tango. La Casa Cultural Latina coupled with Comunidad Argentina to host Argentina Night, an evening devoted to the culture and life in Argentina. The event was organized by Comunidad Argentina, a student organization devoted to providing support to Argentinian students new to the University or to America. "The object of Argentina Night is to show the culture of Argentina to the University community," said Pedro Elosegui, president of Comunidad Argentina. "This is the second time we've held this event with support from La Casa. They provide the location and financial support." Comunidad Argentina was founded in 1999. In addition to being a support system for assimilating Argentinian students, the group organizes academic, athletic, cultural and social activities in the area, which allow a cross-cultural exchange between Argentinians and members of the community. The organization consists of about 70 students.
