Search Sports TV, teacher certification among proposed legislation By Doug Murphy Staff Writer Lawmakers know that next year's state budget will need to be sliced by more than $1 billion, but that hasn't stopped them from filing a wide assortment of bills in the first full week of the new legislative session that ended Jan. 17. Some, like Senate Bill 1027 and House Bill 2049, would cut the number of reports state agencies are required to file each year, saving money for beleaguered state agencies. Others, like HB 2004, would add to the number of reports required each year. And then there are bills, like SB 1014 that would require half of Arizona's National Guard to train within 20 miles of the Arizona/Mexico border each year and SB 1017 that would overturn the National Football League's policy requiring a television blackout if a local game is not sold out. The College of Science Teacher Preparation Program provides science majors the opportunity to take courses and engage in school experiences that will lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in Science Education, to a minor in Science Education or to eligibility for secondary science teacher certification. How is the program unique The Science Teacher Preparation Program is a unique pathway to science teacher certification. Science majors spend significant amounts of time working with mentor teachers in area middle schools and high schools. Program students have exciting opportunities to work with classroom teachers to experiment with ideas that are discussed in their college courses. The teaching courses focus on science, rather than a mix of teaching subject areas. This allows for a unique blend of science and pedagogy in the courses.
