An overview of the symptoms of attention deficit disorder in children.
http://www.aspeneducation.com/factsheetadhd.html
Attention Deficit Disorder - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - ADD - ADHD Statistics: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common mental disorders in children, affecting 3 to 5 percent of school-age children (NIMH, 1999). Children and adolescents with attention deficit disorder, ADD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD, typically exhibit behaviors such as: Poor or short attention span
Impulsive behaviors
Hyperactivity or disruptive behavior
Inability to focus on a particular task or project through completion Sometimes it is hard for a parent to recognize the difference between an active, high-energy child and one who has ADD or ADHD. Some of the typical things parents, teachers, and other caretakers might say about a child that could indicate ADD or ADHD are: "He never listens."

82. Adult And Child Attention Deficit Disorder | Books By Dr. Gabor Mate | ADD/ADHD
attention deficit disorder in adults and children Dr. Gabor Mate's bestsellingbooks offer a completely new perspective on the treatment ADD and ADHD.
http://www.scatteredminds.com/
Scattered , written from the inside by a doctor who himself has Attention Deficit Disorder, offers a completely new perspective on ADD and a new approach to helping children and adults living with the problems Attention Deficit Disorder presents. For information specific to children with Attention Deficit disorder, click here . For Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder, click here "This delightful, helpful book is a welcome addition to the literature on ADD. I would enthusiastically recommend Scattered to anyone touched by ADD - adults, parents, and professionals." - John J. Ratey, M.D., co-author of Driven to Distraction Scattered:
  • Demonstrates that ADD is not an inherited illness, but a reversible impairment, a developmental delay Allows parents to understand what makes their ADD children tick, and adults with ADD to gain insights into their emotions and behaviors Expresses optimism about neurological development even in adulthood Presents a program of how to promote this development in children and adults alike
Now comes Gabor Maté , an insightful, no-nonsense, and thoroughly compassionate physician who provides an overview of all these perspectives and comes to the marvelously humane conclusion that ADD/ADHD is neither nature (genetics) nor nurture (parenting/environment) but, rather, the result of the collision of a predisposing nature with an ADD-hostile life situation, family, school, or job. How refreshing!

ABSTRACT. This clinical practice guideline provides recommendations for the assessment and diagnosis of school-aged children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This guideline, the first of 2 sets of guidelines to provide recommendations on this condition, is intended for use by primary care clinicians working in primary care settings. The second set of guidelines will address the issue of treatment of children with ADHD.
The guideline contains the following recommendations for diagnosis of ADHD: 1) in a child 6 to 12 years old who presents with inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, academic underachievement, or behavior problems, primary care clinicians should initiate an evaluation for ADHD; 2) the diagnosis of ADHD requires that a child meet Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition

ADD Stands for Attention Deficit Disorder This is one of the only times that I will refer to ADD as Attention Deficit Disorder. Those of us that are ADD know that attention is only one part of being ADD. Plus we really don't have an attention deficit. In fact we actaully have an over abundance of attention. It's just hard for us to pay attention to only one thing at a time. If that one thing is boring or meaningless to us, it is next to impossible to pay attention to it... Positive ADD Traits Creativity ADD people are very creative. Yes, You are creative too. Living in a non-ADD world may have stifled your creativity though. When we as ADD people have no outlet for creativity that is when problems start to escalate...

Mind Introduction
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence." -Albert Einstein.

"If we use a road map to plan a trip from coast-to-coast, we often find ourselves detouring from that plan to travel 'off the beaten path' to experience something different. Despite these 'detours' we still arrive at our destination. So too our lives are destined, some may just take longer due to their choices in detours.
The journey begins...where all great ideas start, conceived as a notion then realized as substance. On the path of life, there are many seeds of inspiration left for our gathering. These are but a humble collection of some of those seeds."

email: research@chem-tox.com T his report is the result of a 1997 Graduate Student Research Project conducted through the Special Education Department at the University of South Florida. The project involved extensive research of published peer reviewed medical journal articles which have shown environmental and chemical exposure factors can cause damage to the delicate brain growth processes in the unborn child during pregnancy, thereby demonstrating potential to cause Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Hyperactivity and other child behavior anomalies. This report generates serious concern as public exposure to identified chemical sources continues to grow due to increased use in homes, jobs and consumer products.
The impact of the resulting decreased quality of offspring upon the families,
schools and society is discussed.

ADHD ADHD ADHD ADHD [Color codes: brown = accessible page; tan = page you are on; dark red = under construction] Introduction:What is ADHD? [Skip Introduction and jump to Quick Index of the Diagnoses and Theories of ADHD ] Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is usually first diagnosed in children and adolescents. It is characterized by inappropriate degrees of inattention, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity. Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder are typically:
  • impulsive
  • forgetful
  • restless to the point of disruption
  • prone to fail
  • unable to follow through on tasks
  • unpredictable
  • moody
These characteristics appear in early childhood, are relatively chronic in nature, and are not due to other physical, mental or emotional causes. From time to time, all children will be inattentive, impulsive and/or exhibit high activity levels. However, for children with ADHD, the persistence, pattern, and frequency of this behavior is much greater. These behaviors are the rule, not the exception. Performance variability is also common among children with ADHD. For instance, it is difficult for teachers to understand why a child can remember homework assignments on Monday and Tuesday but forget them on Wednesday.
