We've been part of the West Indies since 1920 - and we've been a part of the development of the region since days of salt cod and rum. The changes have been many since then. Tourism is the new export, and West Indian businesses are now taking on the world. CIBC has been part of it all, and thorough it all - we've always delivered what our customers needed to succeed, when times were hard, and when times were good. CIBC - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. The first CIBC branches in the West Indies were established in Bridgetown, Barbados and in Kingston, Jamaica. Branches were also opened in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Havana, Cuba the same year. The first branch in Nassau, Bahamas was opened with a staff of five. Now there are more than 350 employees in the Bahamas; thirteen branches, a Trust Company, a Small Business Centre, two Commercial Banking Centres, a Training Centre, a Card Centre and ten ABMs.

History
Barbados Gospelfest was first established in 1993 by the what was then the Barbados Tourist Board, as a joint production in conjunction with Dr. Bobby Jones of Bobby Jones Gospel. This arrangement brought some measure of success, with the festival and the island highlighted on Dr. Jones' very popular television program. Top international Gospel artistes were sought and attracted, and the first few years included artistes such as Yolanda Adams, Ben Tankard, Douglas Miller and a then emerging talent, Kirk Franklin. Over the years several changes took place in the structure and nature of the festival. From 1995 the responsibility for its organisation shifted to the Gospelfest Organising Committee headed by Barbadian event manager Adrian Agard, and comprising persons from the Christian community, some of whom had been previously instrumental in the planning and execution of the festival. Over the last seven years, while being conscious of a mandate to attract visitors to the island, an attempt was made to ground the event as a Barbadian festival. This was done by encouraging the participation of local and regional artistes to share the stage with international acts. Oportunity was also given for the showcase of other areas of artistic expression such as dance and mime. Leading exponents of Barbadian Gospel music such as Joseph Niles, Sis. Magarita Marshall, Promise, Tony Lowe, The Miracalets and Gratitude have graced the Gospelfest stage and contributed to the success of the event, while venues such as Farley Hill National Park, the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre and Heroes Square have added a uniqueness to the festival and brands it as distinctly Barbadian.

CICTE History
The Second Specialized Conference on Terrorism held in Mar del Plata, Argentina on November 23-24 1998 concluded with the adoption of the Commitment of Mar del Plata . That commitment called for establishing within the Organization of American States an "Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism" composed of "competent national authorities" of the member states. This effort was further endorsed by the heads of state of the hemisphere in the Plan of Action of the Second Summit of the Americas in Santiago, Chile. The subsequent meeting of the General Assembly endorsed the recommendations and decisions contained in the Commitment of Mar Del Plata and established CICTE by resolution AG/RES. 1650 (XXIX-O/99) . The basic objectives of CICTE, as set forth in the Commitment of Mar del Plata, are to:
  • Enhance the exchange of information via the competent national authorities, including the establishment of an Inter-American database on terrorism issues

THE DOMINICA OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
History
The idea of formation of a National Olympic Committee evolved from the existing and functional Dominica Amateur Athletic Association (DAAA) and Dominica Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA). The Dominica Amateur Athletic Association was founded by Oswald B. Savarin and Felix A. Wilson in December 1982 responding to the call for its formation by Stephen Agar and Julius Lewis, two athletes of the Striders Athletics Club. Between late November 1985 and early 1986 a few sporting Associations were invited to the Sixth Form College (as it was called then) to a meeting to explore the formation of an Olympic Committee. Rupert Lake from Antigua gave some guidelines based on his experience and participation as an officer of the Antigua Olympic Committee. A Steering Committee to include Rolston St. Hilaire (secretary) and Felix Wilson (vice president) from the (DAAA), Joyce Rabess (Netball), Clifford Severin (DLTA) (treasurer) and Francis Dupigny (president). Dupigny became the first President nominated by Clifford Severin and elected in absentia. Dupigny had just retired from Barclays Bank as Manager and had indicated to Severin his willingness to serve.

All years Advertise on CricInfo Ryan Hinds sets new WI regional bowling record Rick Eyre - 11 February 2001 Nineteen year-old Ryan O'Neal Hinds yesterday claimed the record for the best bowling figures in an innings in the history of West Indian regional first- class competition. Left-arm spinner Hinds, who turns twenty next Saturday (and is no relation to Wavell), took 9/68 from 27 overs bowling for Barbados against Leeward Islands in their Busta Cup match at Grove Park, Nevis. The achievement of the former West Indian Under-19 captain is the best in the tournament which has undergone several sponsor-driven name changes since its birth as the Shell Shield in 1966. The fourth bowler to take nine wickets in an innings in the tournament in that time, Hinds beat the previous mark of 9/76 set by Derek Parry for the Combined Islands against Jamaica in 1980. Hinds' nine-wicket haul was responsible for keeping the Leeward Islands first innings in check after an opening stand of 141 between Stuart Williams and Junie Mitchum on Friday, the home side being dismissed on Saturday morning for 236. Ian Bradshaw was the bowler who took the remaining wicket, that of Williams on the first day.

ST. MICHAEL
BARBADOS JUNE 02, 2002 Mr. President Madam Chairman Heads of Delegation Mr. Secretary General Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen: Barbados is greatly honored that the people of the Americas have chosen our nation as the place to hold this most important assembly at such a vital stage in the development of our Hemisphere. I therefore take great pride and pleasure in welcoming all of you to Barbados on the occasion of the Thirty-Second Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States. I regret only that I cannot offer you the keys to the city of Bridgetown. We have no municipal form of Government in Barbados. Such keys as they are to our capital city are therefore firmly in the grasp of its elected Member of Parliament; the Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ms. Billie Miller, who will be your Chairperson at this meeting. She stands ready to extend to you every comfort and delight that Bridgetown has to offer to make this meeting held under her Chairmanship, and in her constituency, one of the most memorable in the history of this Organisation. This General Assembly is being convened in furtherance of one of nature's and history's great causes.

http://www.spiceisle.com/main/events/2000/carifta/Brief History of Junior Carift
Brief History of Junior Carifta The Carifta Championships has become more than just a showcase for young track and field athletes to display their potential annually throughout the Caribbean. It is a nursery in some ways, for tomorrow’s Olympians and world stars. Even in earlier times before the Championships, top ranking junior champions from several countries developed into world ranking performers and there is no doubt this trend will continue as the games progress annually. As the first inter-regional athletics championships to be staged for promising champions the Carifta Games forms the backdrop to international recognition. It was the brainchild of several Caribbean athletics officials, including Jessie Noel of Trinidad and Tobago and Austin Sealy of Barbados. They set about to establish this historic event. They worked towards establishing a regional championship at junior level and their admirable effort was well supported throughout the Caribbean. Of course, Barbados became the first venue and such as the success of this initial meeting, there was no stopping the roller-coaster effect that developed with each succeeding championship. It moved to Trinidad, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas and in recent times, Guadeloupe and Martinique. One would hope that smaller or less financially developed islands like St. Vincent, Grenada, St. Lucia and Dominica would soon get in on the act of hosting these games.
