Description: We made passports by stapling white paper to construction paper. Then from January until May we studied a different country. We studied Russia, Africa, Ireland, Israel, China, Antarctica, Australia, Mexico, Japan, France, Hawaii, and Saudi Arabia. Then for each country the youngsters wore a hat or a prop from that country (ex: France, beret). We took pictures of each child wearing his or her hat or prop. Then I glued the pictures into each child's individual passport and gave it to them along with a world traveler certificate at the end of the year. They had lots of fun "dressing up!" However, three black students, who are not varsity athletes, as well as two staff members and one professor are featured in other advertisements. Moreover, there is a lack of solidarity at the university as a whole. Because no central black association exists at Concordia, students have little leverage, no one to advocate on their behalf and no support system. Henry’s latest film, “Sho’ Nuff, A Nu’Awlins Jazz Story.” The film tells the story of a musician, Iyalabi III, and his desire to bring out the musical talents of his younger counterparts. Throughout February, second-grade students at Brookside Lower School will research and write about a famous black historical or modern figure, such as Duke Ellington, Arthur Ashe, Frederick Douglas and Oprah Winfrey. Through this project, the students will learn about African Americans who made a difference in history or people’s lives. Students also will share their papers with the rest of class.
