Introductions 2. Advocacy 2.2 Pari Johnson gave an update on AUCC's efforts in advocacy. Comments included media tip sheets and op-ed pieces being produced. 2.3 Suggestion offered that more coordinated public pressure be put on Ottawa to influence the direction of international education in Canada. 2.4 Other suggestions for coordinated group and individual action- get our institutions senior administration more involved in international education advocacy, invite government officials to regional NAFSA meetings (as currently happens for national conferences such as AUCC, ACCC and CBIE). It was noted that only 2 government representatives were in current CanSIG meeting- both from Quebec. 2.5 To help coordinate inform and successes it was suggested that appropriate correspondence be copied to AUCC (Pari Johnson and Karen McBride) and CBIE (Jennifer Humphries).

Continuing Studies Weekend College Elementary Education The Major in Elementary Education Overview The education department offers a sequence of professional courses that allows prospective teachers to gain general and specialized knowledge about past and current theories of education, develop a thorough knowledge of child growth and development, and develop the appropriate skills for effective class-room teaching. During the teacher internship, students work full time in the schools with a mentor teacher in close consultation with college supervisors. Upon completing this internship, students must demonstrate entry-level competence in the full range of professional abilities required to make a strong start in any classroom. Facts of Interest Maryland, as a member of NASDTEC and the Interstate Contract, qualifies all its graduates for certification in all member states. Students will develop a portfolio to demonstrate their proficiency of the Essential Dimensions of Teaching.
