BIO FOR PHAZIDS
[PLANET]
Phaze is the fourth planet in the Del-Tor System on the edge of the now nonexistent Cardassian Neutral Zone. Having four major continents and several island chains the people of Phaze call the land masses the Four Winds and The Water Ones. The main city, Crystal Aiirrs, is located on the main island in the North Water Ones and is bordered but the North Wind. The North Wind and Crystal Aiirrs are separated but what is known as the Crystal Sea. None of the water masses have much of a saline content to them.
As with all planets this one has its wonders of the world. The most widely known is the Crystal Sea. Spanning 26,000 km long, 3000 km wide, and 15,000 km deep at the center this is by far the largest inland sea on the planet. It was deemed a wonder by the two irregular rows of "crystals" (shaped glass) that float in along the middle of this sea. When a telepath touches them with the mind, these Crystals hum and let forth images of the planet. Their origin is unknown and has been the focus of study for many scientists since the planet was entered into the Federation.
[GENERAL]
Phazids are the only species that still consider themselves as two different races on a planet; Pharris - those with wings, and Origuqs - those without wings. Pharries are native to Phaze having evolved on the planet. Origuqs did not arrive on the planet until 2324 when the USS Raven NCC-1803-B crashed in to Phaze's surface. All electronic devices were destroyed when the ship passed through the unusual field that surrounded the planet leaving the crew unable to give Starfleet knowledge of their location.

Desktop DOS goes undercover to run embedded systems
    David Shear
Technical Editor Embedding a PC often involves embedding the most popular desktop operating system. Ref 1 The price-performance ratio of embed-dable versions of PCs is very attractive. The reduced learning time resulting from using a familiar architecture also tends to lower development cost. You can derive additional savings from the low cost of high-quality tools available in the PC world. The embedded PC often runs some version of DOS. Three main players in embedded DOS include Microsoft with MS-DOS ROM, Datalight with ROM-DOS, and General Software with Embedded DOS. Other versions of "embedded" DOS are Microsoft’s MS-DOS, IBM’s PC-DOS, or Novell’s DR-DOS. You can surround these desktop operating systems (OSs) with tools that ease their implementation in embedded systems. A DOS-based system provides many services for embedded systems. You can opt for whichever services suit your application. The left side of Fig 1 shows a simplified block diagram depicting the layers of DOS. To the right of the dashed line are the applications that use the corresponding PC architecture or DOS layer.
