USFWS Photo Recreational opportunities abound at the Savanna District of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. For additional information regarding permitted and prohibited activities, please consult the Refuge's Public Use Regulations
Wildlife Oriented Activities
Fishing - A majority of Refuge visitors come to experience the excellent fishing opportunities. Both shoreline and boat fishing are available. Hunting - Public hunting areas can be found throughout the District. State hunting rules and regulations are followed, in addition to Refuge regulations. The District is located within a premiere waterfowl hunting area. Trapping - Public trapping areas can be found throughout the District. Both Refuge and state regulations apply. Trappers must apply for a Refuge trapping permit and tags. Wildlife Observation/Photography - Many areas within the District offer excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and/or photography. Contact the District Office for additional information.
Non-Wildlife Oriented Activities
Boating - The District is located within a 90 mile stretch of the Mississippi River and is open to boating. Numerous boat launches can be found throughout the Refuge.
