The National Library of Canada has a wealth of published materials of interest to genealogists researching their Canadian ancestors. Our collections include published histories of Canadian families and communities, transcriptions and indexes of parish registers, cemetery records, Canadian newspapers and directories, journals of Canadian genealogical and historical societies, genealogical reference tools, government publications including genealogical data, and much more (see the headings below for more detailed information). Genealogical material can be consulted on-site at the Library (please see our Guide to Services for Researchers at the National Library of Canada or if you are unable to visit in person, many publications can be borrowed from the National Library on interlibrary loan (both within and outside of Canada) by arrangement with your local library.
