Mentorships are available across art forms and provide twenty hours of one-on-one mentoring over 2003. In addition the program offers progress sessions where all participants in the program meet and share their experiences. Participants in the program rave about their experiences"
'The mentorship was excellent because it allowed me to be completely open and honest with someone outside the organisation... someone who understood where I was at, and who could provide a short-cut to resources.' Emma Baily, St Martins Youth Theatre

Workers in the visual arts, design and crafts industry can be employed by companies, or work as freelancers (self-employed). Advertising and design companies often use freelance creatives (such as artists, graphic designers and photographers) to produce artwork for posters, books and other types of media, rather than hiring their own creative team. Freelancers find work by visiting companies and showing them their portfolios. If an agency is interested, they call the freelancer when a job comes up. People who work in this industry need to be self-motivated as a lot of their success depends on how well they sell themselves and their skills. key statistics -
  • 3,198 people were employed in the arts in 1996.
  • 44% were female.
