Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, "is to permit talented Louisiana artists to make strategic investments in themselves. These investments pay dividends to the state as a whole. The quality of the arts in Louisiana is high and we are pleased to support the work of these 20 individuals." The winners in this round of grants include a choreographer, a gospel singer, a traditional Mardi Gras mask maker, a poet, a novelist, a screenplay writer, a film and video maker, a jazz musician, a music composer, an actor/producer, seven painters/mixed media artists, a sculptor, a metalsmith and a printmaker. These artists will use the grant funds on a wide range of activities from attending professional conferences to purchasing art supplies. The Individual Artists Mini-Grant Program has semi-annual deadlines the first of March and the first of September. It is open to all professional artists living in Louisiana.
