Snowdonia
Northern Wales is dominated by the stunning Snowdonia mountain range that loom spectacularly over the coastline. Snowdonia is the second-largest national park in Britain as well as being home to the highest mountain in the country south of the Scottish Highlands. At 1085m, Mt Snowdon provided the training ground for the climbers who made the first successful attempt on Mt Everest and today attracts thousands of aspiring climbers each year. As well as the spectacular mountains, the park boasts a wide variety of other natural features – forests, glacial valleys, moorlands, waterfalls and an attractive coastline. Pembrokeshire Coast
The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is one of the smallest National Parks in England and Wales. Its coastline is one of the most beautiful in Europe boasting high cliffs, long open beaches, sheltered coves and harbors, mud flats and dunes. Predominantly coastal, the park includes several offshore islands, the largest of which are Skomer, Skokholm, Ramsey, Grasholm and Caldey. Each of the islands are major attractions because of their wildlife and are small worlds waiting to be discovered. Attractions within the park include the St. Davids Visitor Centre. Situated within walking distance of St Davids, it is an ideal starting point for a visit to St David’s town. The magnificent castle at Carew has a history spanning 2000 years. Castell Henllys is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and one of many prehistoric promontory forts in the National Park dating to around 600BC.

It boasts a striking city-center castle, an important national museum and art gallery, a redeveloped docks area and pockets of beautiful architecture. In a 1997 referendum, the people of Wales voted to be governed by a Welsh Assembly based in Cardiff rather than from the House of Commons in London. Visitor's review Durham cathedral is a lovely place to ralax at night when the lights shine up at the cathedral the scene is unberliveble and is breath taking. The sight is not only breath taking but is a memory which will last a life time i would recomend a visit to durham cathedral to anybody who is interested in historicsl sights. graham green (England) Durham is truly a jewel in the English Crown. I would urge anyone to experience this historical city as it truly is magnificent. All previous examples of Norman architecture such as ELY cathedral in Cambridgeshire, have been put to shame by this cathedral. At night the views from across the river are breathtaking and, following on from Sir Walter Scott: 'This view is unsurpassed in England'. Toops (ENGLAND) I really enjoyed my visit to Durham Castle and Cathedral. I took a tour of the Castle and i found the history fascinating. The Cathedral was really impressive and i climbed to the top of the tower to get a good view of Durham city. Everywhere I went in Durham, i never lost sight of the castle and cathedral. they dominate the city and are a really historical background. Marie Pennington (England) Have you been to Durham Castle and Cathedral? Share your experiences!

    Castles and Palaces
Although the terms castle and palace have been used interchangeably for centuries, there are in fact distinctions which separate the two types of structures. A castle is a fortified building whose primary purpose is to provide security or defend a territory from one's enemies. A palace, in contrast, is a building whose primary function is that of a luxurious and often eccentric abode. Palaces predate castles by several centuries, with their first appearance being in the Egyptian and Middle Eastern civilizations of ancient history. Although castles are no longer recognized as a means of security from foes, palaces will continue to be built as long as there are people who can afford them. The links included herein relate to castles and palaces.
