    Children’s Literature Program
    Activity Name: Children’s Literature Program
    HISTORY/SYNOPSIS:

The Children’s Literature Program, a three-week pilot now turned into a 9-week program, is a collaboration between eMINTS MOREnet and the University of Missouri (MU) College of Education (CoE) in an effort to develop literacy skills in elementary students by specifically using technology and to develop the technical skills in the COE Pre-service teachers in the Teacher Development Program at MU CoE.
Missouri area fourth-grade teachers came to MU for an onsite visit to learn about the CoE technology and curriculum. They brainstormed on ways to collaborate and came up with the idea of having videoconferences between MU pre-service teachers and elementary students. The goal is to help motivate the elementary students to read and discuss books while also providing MU students experience in leading literature discussions.
    Children's Literature Club Website
    PURPOSE/OVERVIEW:
The Children’s Literature Program is one of four programs that is part of the “Literacy Vision: Bringing Information Closer” initiative. The Literacy Vision Initiative leverages existing technology with organizational and educational infrastructures to create a learning environment characterized by knowledge creation, exploration and sharing among all participants. This initiative uses videoconferencing technology to allow students access to information located in Missouri, across the United States and around the globe.
