IMPORTANT INFORMATION For several months now, I have been aware of Tokyopop 's licensing Wish
Come August 2002, it will be time for me to shut-down my translation section - my reaction is late, but I wanted to support this series as long as I possibly could. I will continue to do so in the future, however not by offering any more scanned translations. With the upcoming US-release, there will no longer be any necessity for my efforts. I spent an entire year - spring to winter 2000 - translating the text and scanning the images - this is why it's important to me that everybody acknowledges the final possibility of downloading this wonderful shoujo-manga. All translation files will be deleted Friday, August 2nd Clouds Up can continue being a source of information even without the scanned translations. Cheers,
Alexa

In the past two years, interest in clouds has increased considerably as scientists attempt to understand global warming and the greenhouse effect . Efforts to predict climatic changes associated with global warming have focused new attention on the warming and cooling properties of clouds. The picture is a complex one, involving competing feedback mechanisms, and is not fully understood at this time. All clouds block some fraction of the incoming solar radiation, and absorb some fraction of the heat radiated back from the Earth's surface, and the balance between these two processes is hard to quantify. However, contemporary thinking suggests that the lower altitude cumulus clouds (such as pictures Thunderstorms, Brazil

Introduction Although not as pronounced as on Earth , clouds are common features on Mars. The Martian atmosphere has only a trace of water vapor; however, the temperature and pressure is such that the atmosphere is usually close to saturation and produces clouds. Even from Earth based telescopes, clouds have been observed by transient brightening on the surface of Mars. Numerous cloud patterns have been seen from the Marineer and Viking spacecraft and have been classified into various categories (Carr, 1981; French et al. 1981):
  • Lee waves . These clouds form in the lee of large obstacles such as mountains, ridges, craters and volcanoes. The air in these regions undergoes wavelike oscillations.
  • Wave clouds . These clouds appear as rows of linear clouds. They are common at the edge of the polar caps.
  • Cloud streets . These clouds exhibit a double periodicity. They appear as linear rows of cumulus-like, bubble-shaped clouds.
  • Streaky clouds . These clouds have a direction without periodicity.
  • Fog or ground hazes . Fog usually occurs in low areas such as valleys, canyons and craters. It forms during the coolest times of the day such as dawn and dusk. Sometimes ground haze is caused by dust in the atmosphere; however, if the atmosphere is clear ground fog can be easily identified.

The setting of the Clouds requires two doors in the skene, one representing Strepsiades's house and the other, the Thinkery, both in the city of Athens. The play begins with Strepsiades and Pheidippides sleeping in their beds. Since the ancient Greek theater had no curtain, these two men in their beds had to be carried out in full view of the audience by stagehands (probably slaves) and placed in front of one of the doors of the skene representing Strepsiades's house. The audience was no doubt expected to imagine that this was an indoor scene, because it was not usual for Greeks to sleep outside. This assumption is strengthened by the fact that, since Pheidippides is sleeping under five blankets, the weather is cool, which would make it even less likely that this was intended as an outdoor scene. The method of presenting the scholarly activities that go on inside the Thinkery is by no means certain. K. J. Dover ( Aristophanic Comedy , Berkeley and Los Angeles, 1972, 107) suggests two possibilities. The students could come out of the door of the skene carrying their apparatus with them, which they could leave behind when they go back inside. Another possibility is that a screen made of canvas and wood with a door, held from behind by stagehands, could conceal the students until Strepsiades asks that the door be opened. The stagehands then could remove this screen revealing the students and their equipment. When the students are ordered to go back inside, they could go through a door of the skene which then would become the door of the Thinkery for the rest of the play.

les influences French @ U of Chicago Ayn Rand Frantz Fanon Aimé Césaire ... B Jeudi, le 3 Avril Well, just was I was thinking I had run out of inspiration for the next log, AOL saves the day. First, Matt Fifer sends me this forward that he recieved from some Avon Lake suburbanite who, I guarantee, has never tasted discrimination or coffee outside of Starbucks. The catchy title was "USA future plan!" Here are excerpts. All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them. All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers. No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.
