What's New Archive No Dream Denied: A Pledge to America's Children
From the National Commission on Teaching and America's Future (NCTAF) , this report makes the case that the conventional wisdom about teacher shortages is wrong: the problem isn't that there aren't enough good teachers, the problem is how to keep them. It then explains how high teacher turnover affects student achievement, and offers strategies for ending the teacher retention crisis. The report begins by looking back at the 1996 report "What Matters Most: Teaching for America's Future" and giving a status report on progress made thus far. Available at: http://www.nctaf.org/dream/summary_report.pdf Teacher Quality Grants
The Institute for Education Sciences (IES) has released a Request for Applications (RFA) for a new research grant program that focuses on teacher quality. For more information about the grant program, go to: http://www.ed.gov/offices/IES/funding.html
