Where are we ? We are situated on the sheltered west coast of Rarotonga, the sunshine capital of the Cook Islands. Turn left out of the airport and follow the coast road for approximately 7km. We are on the right hand side, just past the school. More The Cook Islands Geography The Cook Islands are a group of 15 islands covering 241 square km, scattered in over 2 million square km of the South Pacific. They are split into the northern and the southern groups, the southern being generally the most populated, with 50% of the 19,000 Cook Islands people living on Rarotonga alone. Rarotonga is the 'capital' of the group and it is from here that most people begin their discovery of the Cook Islands. Climate Rarotonga is directly below and about as far south of the equator as Hawaii is north. This makes for a pleasant, consistent, year-round temperature. The 'wet' season lasts from December to March, where approximately 25cm per month of rainfall can be expected. These are also the hottest months, with an average temperature of 29 C in February.

Economy- overview: Like many other South Pacific island nations, the Cook Islands' economic development is hindered by the isolation of the country from foreign markets, lack of natural resources, periodic devastation from natural disasters, and inadequate infrastructure. Agriculture provides the economic base with major exports made up of copra and citrus fruit. Manufacturing activities are limited to fruit-processing, clothing, and handicrafts. Trade deficits are made up for by remittances from emigrants and by foreign aid, overwhelmingly from New Zealand. Efforts to exploit tourism potential, encourage offshore banking, and expand the mining and fishing industries have been partially successful in stimulating investment and growth.

    The Islands French Polynesia
    Geography
French Polynesia consists of five great archipelagos, the Society, Austral, Tuamotu, Gambier, and Marquesas islands. The Society Islands are subdivided into the Windwards or Iles du Vent (Tahiti, Moorea, Maiao, Tetiaroa, and Mehafa), and the Leewards or lies Sous le Vent (Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti). Together the 35 islands and 83 atolls of French Polynesia total only 3,543 square km in land area, yet they're scattered over 5,030,000 square km of the southeastern Pacific, from the Cook Is. in the west to Pitcairn in the east. There's a wonderful geological diversity to these islands midway between Australia and South America. From the dramatic, jagged volcanic outlines of the Society and Marquesas islands to the 400-meter-high hills of the Australs and Gambiers and the low coral atolls of the Tuamotus. All of the Marquesas are volcanic islands, while the Tuamotus are all coral islands or atolls. The Societies and Gambiers include both volcanic and coral types.
