I am a junior in high school and have decided to become a criminal forensic psychologist, but I don't know what courses to take exactly, and in which order. If anyone would be kind enough to inform me I would appreciate it. Any other information on criminal/forensic psychology would be nice also because I'm doing a ten page research paper on this career. Forensic Clinical Psychology at
Sam Houston State University
Introduction
Although many incorrectly associate the term with homicide, the word forensic is derived from the Latin forum the public part of ancient Roman city-states which served as the center for public and, especially, judicial business. As those familiar with Roman history are aware, Roman public life revolved around oratory, principally in the form of debate. Not surprisingly, debates have long been associated with forensics. Indeed, most of us in the United States are aware of high school forensics teams, that is, teams that practice the art of debate. Contemporary use of the term forensic still emphasizes not only the debate but also the more public aspects of our lives. The term chiefly describes the adversarial process that characterizes our judicial systema process of formalized debate between or among competing parties. The term also is used, albeit to a lesser extent, to characterize our legislative processanother process incorporating often protracted formalized debate. The term forensic , then, captures the legal context within which certain activities arise.
