The Agri-ID works for Dairy Cattle
Highly visible, available in four colors, long lasting identification system for Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle and Horses. Has a built-in safety release, easy to install and adjust, reliable, re-usable. Replaces ear tags, ankle bracelets, neck chains, and ropes.
    • The Agri-ID works well for mature dairy cattle.(700 lbs. +)
    • If your "fed-up" with ear tags, this is the solution to improved herd management.
    • The Agri-ID is put on by hand, easily adjusted or removed. No special tools needed.
    • It's stress free. No punctures, no risk of infection, no stress.
    • It provides a very safe comfortable fit while providing you with the best animal identification never available before. The Agri-ID is tough, it will with-stand the rigors of any enviornment. The id numbers are covered with an acrylic shield, giving you years of visible identification.
    • GREAT Tool for marking "dry" or "treated' animals since it removes or installs in just seconds.

    http://www.agr.gc.ca/cb/news/1997/n70205be.html
NATIONAL LIVESTOCK IDENTIFICATION STRATEGY FOR DAIRY CATTLE OTTAWA, February 5, 1997 Within two years, Canadian dairy producers should be able to assure domestic and world customers that every Canadian-born dairy animal will be traceable in the event of a health emergency. The Canadian dairy industry is implementing a National Livestock Identification (NLID) Strategy to trace and identify infections and other diseases, and to maintain the international reputation of Canadian dairy cattle and products. The basic objectives of the NLID to identify every dairy animal with an approved tag and a lifetime number, at birth or prior to leaving the farm gate, and to build a supporting database for tracking animal movement will benefit producers by helping maintain the image and excellent health status of Canadian dairy cattle and products around the world. "The NLID Strategy is an important, timely initiative. By helping to control disease in cattle it will benefit Canadian dairy producers protecting existing markets for live animals, genetic materials and dairy products, and helping to open new ones," said Ralph Goodale, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. "I'm convinced this initiative will also strengthen Canadians' confidence in the safety of our dairy food products." NLID is an industry-led initiative of the Canadian Dairy Breeds supported by major industry partners such as Canadian Association of Animal Breeders, Canadian Dairy Network, Canadian Milk Recording Board, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Dairy Farmers of Canada and Canadian Livestock Records Corporation. NLID is endorsed by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

This site provides information on the CDN, its organisation, committees, aims and activities. In addition, it is possible to search for genetic evaluations of specific bulls or cows, and proofs are available for both production and conformation traits. Evaluations of specific breeds are also available and data files can be downloaded in compressed format. An inbreeding calculator can be accessed online. AABP embraces disabled livestock, dairy cattle welfare guidelines
As recommended by the AABP Animal Welfare Committee, the AABP board of directors endorsed the position on disabled livestock that the AVMA adopted in June 2002 ( see JAVMA July 15, 2002 , page 181, or call (800) 248-2862, Ext. 6666). The new position distinguishes between terminal and nonterminal markets. The committee also endorsed the animal welfare guidelines on dairy cattle released recently by the Food Marketing Institute and the National Council of Chain Restaurants. The committee assisted in developing them. Veal calf guidelines are under review, and beef cattle guidelines are being formulated. The FMI/NCCR program brings together experts in veterinary medicine, animal science, and agricultural production. They are identifying science-based, objective, measurable indices for desirable practices in the growing, handling, and processing of food animals. In 2001, the AVMA also joined the effort. According to Dr. James Reynolds of Visalia, Calif., chair of the AABP Animal Welfare Committee, now the dairy quality assurance guidelines need to be marketed to educate producers. To help producers come into compliance, the Dairy and Beef Quality Assurance Center in Stratford, Iowa, has developed a booklet and software for distribution through veterinarians. This fall, the AABP committee intends to test-market the booklet on clients at the University of California-Davis.
