    CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Spatial Information Engineering Careers Graduates are both self-employed and employed throughout business and government in a broad range of spatial information management and system development positions. Jobs are numerous, varied and well paid. Many graduates are involved in the traditional areas of managing land information systems, producing maps and digital databases through the application of photogrammetry, remote sensing, and global positioning system (GPS) techniques, accomplishing surveys for boundaries and engineering projects, or managing, developing, and preserving land. Others are involved in managing information about the environment, transportation and other utility systems. Yet others are involved in advancing the technology itself; developing software and systems to enhance the ability of individuals, business, government, and industry to better utilize information systems in their daily tasks. Careers are rewarding and intellectually stimulating. Information Systems Careers Both industry and government offer a wide variety of positions in information systems practice. Traditionally, many information systems roles in organizations have been carried out by experienced engineers and other technically trained personnel, though often only after lengthy apprenticeship in detailed design or analysis work. As the complexity of modern computer-based systems has increased, there is growing demand for information systems skills.

Small businesses comprise one of the most dynamic sectors of the state economy and contribute a distinct richness to our culture and quality of life. They give rise to new technologies, renewable sources of energy and landmark trends that define contemporary culture. The small business sector's indispensable role is apparent in the following statistical summary:
      General California Economy
    • If California were a separate country, it would be the fifth largest economy in the world.
The exporting of manufactured goods in 2001 supported approximately 1.28 million jobs in the Golden State.
California's Gross State Product grew by 5% between years 2001 and 2002 to 1,503,000,000,000.
