COMMONWEALTH ENVIRONMENT ACTIVITIES
The Commonwealth's environmental activities go well beyond programmes targeted directly at environmental issues. Commonwealth programmes concerned with resource and industry sectors, economic growth, microeconomic reform, social goals and international cooperation and development aim to integrate environmental considerations with economic and social considerations. Also, internal management practices in areas such as government administration and Defence are moving to environmental best practice (see Table 2.5).

ABSTRACT
The summary reproduced below is the entry prepared for the research project as it appears in the Worksafe Australia National Institute Research report 1993-94. Background The entrenched relations between the industrial parties of Australia imply, among other things, ineffective occupational health and safety work. The fact that a good work environment, resulting in physical and social well-being at work, makes people more healthy, work more productive and industry more competitive, has yet to be acknowledged by the industrial parties of Australia and there seem to be conservative and pessimistic attitudes on both sides of the fence on this issue. This study is based on some of the perceived differences between Australia and Sweden regarding views on work, the work environment and workplace culture.

The landscape lends itself to various pursuits: A hike up the mountain is rewarded by breath-taking views from the summit plateau, and there are many pleasant walks including a stroll along the picturesque three kilometers of river. Bird watching is most rewarding; the bald ibis is endemic, Gurneys sugar bird flits among the proteas and the riverbanks are home to a variety of kingfishers. In spring the reeds in the wetland are a blaze of scarlet when the red bishops come into breeding plumage. Many birds are seen on the farm and "twitchers" are encouraged to add to the bird list! Lydenburg, 15 minutes from the farm, offers golf, tennis and bowls.

In order to protect the Earth's beautiful environment and provide a comfortable place to live, NTT is involved in cleanup activities through each of its regional offices. Although these activities were first spurred by the "Clean the Sea of Japan" campaign started by the new corporate affiliate Young Monitor, activities have grown to include not only seaside cleanup, but now extend to continuous cleanup activities at over 770 locations nationwide from cleaning up wetlands, gathering Tamagawa River cleanup assistance, and cleaning parks and tourist sites. Every year 30 to 40 thousand NTT employees participate in environmental cleanup activities. NTT supports these activities by providing the goods necessary for cleanup such as garbage bags, and plays an important role along with government and other corporations in promoting local awareness of environmental issues.

The basic philosophy of this course is that you learn best through experience, so we will engage in numerous activites throughout the term intended to help us imagine how the ideas of our class readings impact people in real life situations. Lost at Sea The Common Well Scenario Water Management Activity Los Arboles Mountain Scenario ... The Commons Game Lost at Sea This is an exercise in experiential learning. Do your best to accomplish the goals set forth by the instructions. While you participate, try to pay attention to the experience itself and what it might teach you about learning and about working in groups.
