Student Services Counseling Services The counselor works as an integral part of the educational process, assisting students with issues affecting personal and academic development, consulting with teachers and parents, and monitoring the progress of students. The work of the counselor in the Middle School is directly related to the philosophy and mission statement. Services are offered in individual and group settings and are remedial and preventative in nature. A curriculum for affective or character education has been developed, listing skills in the areas of emotional, social and career awareness. The counselor enrolls the students and supervises the orientation of new students to the school. The counselor also works closely with other members of the school community to monitor and create a positive learning environment. Students can see the counselor by requesting an appointment time. Parents may call for an appointment to discuss their child's progress at any time. The years of early adolescence present special challenges as well as opportunities for all members of the family.
