It supports the specialized research, exhibitions, and public programs of the NMAH and other museums and offices within the Smithsonian and the public. The NMAH Branch Library had its formal beginning in 1958 in the Arts and Industries Building, where the object collections that were the basis for the establishment of the museum were housed. The library collection was a combination of the former Office Library, the Arts and Industries Library, and the sectional libraries of the departments of civil history, military history, science and technology, and arts and manufacturing. In 1964, when the new building housing NMAH was opened the library was moved to its present location. HOURS Monday - Friday

Revisiting World's Fairs and International Expositions:
A Selected Bibliography, 1992 - 1999
This bibliography supplements Bridget Burke's bibliography, "World's Fairs and International Expositions: Selected References 1987-1993," which was published as part of Fair Representations: World's Fairs and the Modern World , edited by Robert Rydell and Nancy Gwinn. It focuses on secondary materials that were published between 1992 and mid-summer 1999, but also includes some entries for materials prior to 1992 that were not included in the Burke's bibliography. Citations were gathered from a variety of sources including online databases such as America: History and Life History of Science and Technology Historical Abstracts , and Dissertation Abstracts as well as from online bibliographic catalogs such as OCLC and RLIN. Informal meetings with scholars and chance findings in book reviews, advertisements, and footnotes resulted in the inclusion of additional citations. Considering the recent resurgence of interest in world's fairs and the large number of publications that have been produced in recent years, a great deal of effort has been made to include as much of this material as possible. However, due to the large volume or material, it is inevitable that some works have been overlooked due to reasons such as incorrect indexing and recency of publication.

Mormon Pavilions - World Fairs and Expositions
Temple Square hits the road on a whirlwind world tour lasting decades. Share your experiences of visiting the pavilions throughout the years and around the planet.
The 1974 Spokane World Fair Mormon Pavilion
A pre-construction drawing of the Mormon Pavilion. The pavilion was in the shape of an open Book of Mormon, with two gold plates, joined by large gold rings. Outside was a statue of the angel Moroni, while inside, a movie called Ancient America Speaks was shown in two theatres. The movie told the story of American history as related in the Book of Mormon. Reed boats made by South American Mormons rounded out the exhibit.
I Actually Saw the Golden Plates
05/05/2002 - anon Last time I was in Salt Lake, I stopped in the Visitors Center on Temple Square and they had the actual Golden Plates on display down on the basement level. I saw them with my own eyes! At least, that is what the nice young sister missionary from Russia told me. Or what I thought she was trying to tell me, her English was a bit garbled. They look just like I thought they did. TAKE THAT YOU APOSTATES!!! One simple but effective way to win any argument is to question sources. In Court Cases, the key to prevailing is to understand the rules of admitting evidence and to control what evidence is allowed. It is always possible to claim that evidence has been altered and the truth been trampled upon. With control of sources, we control what we know and believe. None of us lives long enough or has the tools to actually verfy much of anything.

15. The History Of Fairs
the International Association of fairs and expositions (IAFE), the To explain theimportance of fairs in american points to the early days in american history.
http://www.statefair.org/doc/media/nrhisfai.htm
The History of Fairs
feria . According to Lewis Miller of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE), the earliest references to fairs come in the Bible, in the book of Ezekiel, chapter 12. The fair was a time when merchants and traders from surrounding areas would come together for the purpose of commerce.
The fair spread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages, as a means to create commerce and a sense of community. With the founding of the New World, a new kind of fair began to emerge. According to Miller, the first fairs were held in the Massachusetts area. As the nation was settled, the fair followed soon after. Today, says Miller, there are 3,238 fairs in the United States and Canada.
Fairs in America have always been primarily agricultural events. The first fairs were started, usually by agricultural societies or granges, as a way to break the monotony of farm life, bring the people together to share the newest innovations, and show the best of their products. With the Industrial Revolution came the Exposition, such as the Crystal Palace in London in 1851. These events focused on industry, giving city dwellers the opportunity to see the latest in machinery and labor-saving devices, like the Singer sewing machine and the cotton gin.
To explain the importance of fairs in American culture, Miller points to the early days in American history. When territories applied for statehood, part of the application asked them to name the location of their state capital, state university, and state fairgrounds. The fact that the fairgrounds were included in the list with the state capital shows the emphasis placed on the event.
