This corset was worn in the 1920's, when women dared to be different by cutting their hair and wearing skirts that fell to the knees. A boyish, waif-like figure was 'all the rage' in the 20's. To achieve this flat look, women wore corsets like these that hooked onto the garter belt, there by binding the breasts down against the rib cage. Zoot Suit 1920's Men's Vintage Fashions

In the late 20's the Jazz Musicians of Harlem pushed the boundaries of fashion with their big, bold and baggy ZOOT SUITS. Their high waisted baggy pants, cinched in at the ankle, and their fully cut coats created a fashion statement that continues on in dance clubs around the world. 1930's Fashion Look at the prices of the dresses in 1930. Fashion in the 1970s...Midi skirts, leisure suits, polyester and platforms! Far out man! Here, we'll explore a little bit of fashion and fads in the 1970s.
FASHION Leisure suits, usually top stitched in a contrasting color with large patch pockets and paired with bell bottom slacks tight in the crotch, and tight fitting body shirt with an open butterfly collar and six inch platform shoes. There were also leisure suit styles for women as well. Colors grew louder and wilder, and if it was a patterned shirt, the designs could sometimes be eccentric. Wearing a matching vest optional. Oh, and don't forget your gold medallion to show off that manly chest under that open collar! :) If you wore ties, they were wide, dude! Very wide! And bowties were also big enough so that you would take flight with the proper wind! For ladies, hot pants and midi skirts were big, and dresses were loose and ruffly for that "toga" look. Peasant style blouses and skirts also were a craze. Ladies also liked big hoop earrings (hoops are making a comeback by the way!) and head kerchiefs. Those went well with that peasant look. As the disco craze heated up, tube tops became cool, and flared skirts and dresses. Take a look at the picture of John Travolta and Karen Lynn Gorney from "Saturday Night Fever" for an idea of how one might have dressed to go out to the disco.

RAMBLINGS ON FASHIONS AND FADS C Kumara Bharathy (Parathy) Genesis Of My Fashion Phobia This matter of the code of dressing and code of conduct (Nattai Yuddai Bhavanai ) has always been an incomprehensible thing for me. The reason for my slow uptake in these matters connected with 'Haute fashion' is that understanding the subtle protocols of public behavior and dress etiquette is not easy. There is the normal daily way of getting around and special protocol one observes for occasions such as temple festivals weddings and other events in feudal Jaffna. To know these protocols Murai-Thalai One of vexing problem with fashion is to distinguish between an " authentic" luxurious stylish dress from the common garden varieties. Sometimes it is difficult to tell fashion per se without associating price tag and brand names. The dress in a designer boutique can cost you an arm and a leg. You circle and flirt around it. You make a series of visits compare prices and finally buy it. When you wear it is an anticlimax. What was gorgeous in the glittering setting with many of its likes is now a singled out orphan and is on you. For many reasons It does not now look all that great for the trouble. Obvious reason you overlook is that you dont and wont look great in any dress. This is the down side of retail therapy. Luxury has its price, including worry. New comers into western fashion world are learning to redefine 'fashion'. Of course the easiest way is imitation.

When the 30's arrived, women's hair grew a little longer but still had the same carefree style. Curls, especially those around the face and on the forehead, were very popular back then. This woman is wearing a balloon sleeved dress with a tiny cinched waist. Small skirts with slits up the side or back were very fashionable. This is a purple velvet evening dress, with a typical scoop neck, flowing short sleeves and pleats from the shoulders down.

The Young and The Restless Segment 1 Segment 2 Fashion, fads, pop music and trendy hangouts are but some of the elements of popular culture which young people find fascinating - but which adults view with suspicion and caution. On the other hand, the attraction to popular culture is a transitional and normal process of growing up. How far should the influence of popular culture be seen as something harmful and how much of it is ‘normal’ and ‘expected’? Can measures be taken to protect the young from potential harm without stifling their need to experiment with popular culture? "The Young and the Restless" addresses this conflict in two parts - first through an insightful drama segment, then, through a series of interviews with a psychologist and with young people. Segment 1 In this programme, Mrs. Tan, a teacher, has to come to terms with the influence of popular culture on her children and her students. While she lays the ground rules for her daughter, an exchange with her family triggers off her reflections of her younger days. These reflections reveal similarities between herself and her daughter with regards to their attraction to the fashion and fads of their times. They also reveal similarities in the concerns addressed by the parents of both generations. The programme ends with Mrs. Tan's reflections of the above-said similarities, revealing an interesting point - that popular culture has always existed in all generations and is here to stay.

with
Osteoporosis
It estimated that over 10 million people already have osteoporosis, approximately 80 percent of these people are women. Compression fractures of the spine can cause body changes: a loss of height, a curving of the shoulders and backs and a thickening waistline. These changes often make it difficult for those with the disease to find stylish, comfortable and properly fitting clothes.
Every woman has had the experience of trying on several outfits, before finding one that fits. For women with osteoporosis, shopping for clothes or getting dressed can be a difficult and frustrating experience. Jackets and blouses pull across the back and shoulders. Collars gape. Skirts do not hang properly. All are effects of the physical consequences of osteoporosis. These fashion and design tips listed emerged from Beauty in All Forms®

    YOUR INPUT
I would like to take this time to thank our readers for the positive feedback.
AJ Jones, lives in Florida, she writes that we have very interesting topics in our newsletter, her favorite is the recipe section. She is a single, retired, grandmother who lives on a fixed income, so finding recipes that are both economical and nutritious are very important to her. She is looking forward to trying all your recipes so keep them coming in.
Thank you AJ for your kind words, because without you our readers, we are nothing.
One of our readers contacted me with the problem that many elderly, widowed or divorced people face when their children are grown and out of the house. This problem is how to make sure that they eat well balanced meals while only cooking enough for one.
Another reader has this solution for her, she is a single woman also so she cooks several types of meat, vegetables and side dishes on Sunday. If she desires a desert she also makes them. When all the food is done she takes out her freezer safe plastic ware and makes seven days of meals using the food she cooked. She does this for breakfast and lunch also. This way she has balanced, tasty meals without having to buy special cuts of meat and smaller more expensive cans of vegetables, also she works long hours so this prevents her having to come home and stand on tired feet to cook, also prevents spending extra money to eat out.
    WORDS OF WISDOM
    FASHION CORNER
The whole theme in fashion is Primitive, worn look, with bleaching, sandblasting, fringed bottoms, patch worked pieces, embroidered designs, unmatched grandmother's button box buttons, hand assembled effects and collectible embellishments. The glitter covered and stud embellished clothing that were in last season are out this year. Favorites now lean toward straight, skinny jeans, peasant tops, fitted sweaters and boots with thin heels. We recommend sticking with the time tested basics, adding color with tees and shells to be worn alone or under a jacket, accessories, shoes, handbags and hats. Our point is to buy wisely, fads come and go quickly, so adding a few basics each season will save you money and space in your closet. The money you save could be used to treat you and your family a much deserved vacation.
