Flamenco School and courses ... Our links Antonio PERUJO Dancer and choreographer Antonio Perujo was born in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 27 April 1975, the second son to Andalusian immigrants. From the tender age of four, his attraction to flamenco could already be sensed at the Spanish ‘Southern Ferias’ during his school holidays in Andalusia. He began learning flamenco dancing in Lausanne, with Paquita Nuevo Romero, who taught him the basics both of flamenco and of classical Spanish dancing. Later, she offered him the opportunity to study with her brother, Manuel Nuevo Romero, a great flamenco choreographer and teacher in Geneva. Through the intense work done with Manuel Nuevo Romero, Antonio’s love and passion for flamenco at last fully blossomed, and a great dancer was born. Since then he has been attending intensive dance courses in the Spanish cities of Sevilla, Málaga, Cádiz and Jerez de la Frontera, under the tuition of Antonio Márquez, Manolo Marin, José Granero, Manolete, Antonio “El Pipa”, Maria del Mar Moreno, Adrian Galia, Javier Latorre, “la Chiqui” and “El Rin”. The city of Jerez, the cradle of flamenco, also offers him the opportunity of paying homage to the art of flamenco by working closely with the gypsies.

Although Catalunya does not have a tradition of flamenco, a dance which originated with the gypsies in southern Spain's Andalucia, the tourist industry has fed the demand for flamenco venues. Just because these venues may be geared to tourists should in no way reflect poorly on their quality; some of the best flamenco musicians and dancers in Spain pass through these establishments. Salsa ~ Flamenco ~ Belly Dancing ~ Jazz ~ Irish Step ~ Swing ~ Modern ~ African ~ Henry's Dance Hot List World Dance Spectacular! 43396799493:Riverdance: Live From New York City . The acclaimed Irish music and dance spectacular, comes to the Big Apple in this live video recorded at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. The New York performance features several new pieces never before available on video, including "American Wake" and "Harbour Of The New World." One of the best ways to get and stay fit is to dance! Many dance forms are much easier on the knees than aerobics, and in my opinion, a heck of a lot more fun. I often find the time flies when I'm dancing as I lose myself in the music. The next thing I know I've had a wonderful 30 minute workout without the huffing, puffing, and sheer agony of traditional workouts. So, if you're a natural couch potato, this might just be the thing to get you going! There are many different styles of dance, all with their own flavor and rhythms. Flamenco and belly dance are personal favorites. Some of the biggest stars and most gifted dancers are beautifully curvaceous women who are amazing to watch, and skinny little ladies somehow just wouldn't look quite right! But an ample figure can be just as supple, toned and graceful in any art form. So give it a try!

2. Flamenco dancing originally comes from Andalucia, Spain. Ladies wear long costumes with many fringes and frills and practice for hours a day. The best way to be familiar with flamenco dancing is to go to a "tablao" or a flamenco show.
Flamenco dancing is a dance they do in Spain. They use all sorts of body parts. There is more than one person dancing at once. The twirl their wrists a lot, hop on stage with head twists. They wear cheery face of Indian dancers. They do hand gestures, facial expressions and Indian stomps. They also dress up as Spanish Indian fashion. That is some things about Flamenco dancing.
The Flamenco dance is a traditional dance of the gypsies. The song is the center of the flamenco dance. It has different forms, grand or deep, intense, profound song, and tragic in tone and more. The men's part of the dance is intricate toe and heel clicking. The lady's dance is more grace of body. In 20

Project Proposal
Mon, Apr 8, 2002; by Heather Harris. I want to write an article possibly for a magazine such as The NewYorker on different paintings created as a response to flamenco dancing. I was recently in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston this past vacation and I was struck by the beauty of John Singer-Sargent's Jaleo . It is a huge painting of a flamenco dancer with seated guitarists, dancers, and a singer in the background. The size and vibrancy of the painting immediately struck me and I felt as though Singer-Sargent's painting was an excellent interpretation of original flamenco dancing. I decided that I wanted this painting to be the focus of my project. Then I decided that maybe it would be interesting to compare Singer-Sargent's work to other paintings of flamenco artists done by Spanish artists. Singer-Sargent's painting was controversial in some aspects, so I think it would be interesting to see how other Spanish artists have interpreted the flamenco in their works compared to Jaleo done by an American artist. I will research and find information on Sargent's

Ajami A number of contradictions and tensions run throughout the film: Gypsy/non-Gypsy, bailaor/bailarín, performing/teaching, Andalucia/USA, past/present (and future), public performer/private individual. Omayra Amaya embodies all of these contradictions and more. To understand her dancing, you must know that she is the great-niece of Carmen Amaya and carries on that tradition passed down to her as a child by her family. But she is also a trained modern dancer, having originally come to Boston as a young woman to study modern dance at the Boston Conservatory. She is presented by the filmmaker as not only a performer, but also as a woman with emotional ties that run even deeper than flamenco. As the film progresses, all of the struggle and sacrificefinancial and personalrequired to create and run a company like Amaya, Flamenco Sin Limites is revealed. This film is very successful in the way it presents a richly multifaceted picture of Omayra Amaya. She is a dancer, but also a woman. She is a trained modern dancer, but also the carrier of the Amaya family flamenco tradition. "Gypsy Heart" is an excellent documentary film profiling an artist and her art, a woman and her life, and one that reveals to the viewer much about the essence of flamenco.
