http://www.sylvestris.demon.co.uk/forestry_management.htm
We currently have the management remit for a total area of around 4,600 ha of woodland located in Aberdeenshire, belonging to 8 separate clients. We prepare management plans and grant applications and ensure cost effective implementation by organising and supervising suitable contractors to carry out the work. Contractors invoices are settled directly by the woodland owner and so we take no percentage mark-up on operating costs. A detailed management plan is the foundation of sound forestry management. We can prepare plans which include, an accurate description and maps of the woodland, an inventory of the timber crop, detailed prescriptions for planting, thinning, felling, wildlife conservation and budget forecasts. Current guidelines on forest landscape design, conservation, archaeology and the protection of streams and watercourses always receive full consideration. Plans can be prepared to be carried out by contractors under our supervision or by the woodland owner's own staff. We have particular experience of preparing management plans for native woodlands combining timber production and wildlife interests and the coordination of forest management operations with an estate countryside ranger service, dealing with 40,000 visitors per year.

Following an overview of women's involvement in forest management, the authors describe a unique initiative to integrate and support gender equity in Central American forest management. Whiel imediments to gender integration persist, the authors show how the Central American experience offers useful lessons for other regions.

About Forest Management Bureau
History of Forestry in the Philippines Forestry under the Spanish Regime
June 1863
The "Inspeccion General de Montes" was created pursuant to a Spanish Royal Decree. It was the first Forestry Service in the Philippines whose function was to determine, through data collection, the extent of the country's forest resources and oversee their proper utilization.
September 3, 1863
The Forestry Service was allowed by the Superior Civil Government to intervene in all matters pertaining to cutting, extracting timber, resins, etc. and to open up virgin lands to give concessions over mountain lands and transact business related to lands and forests.
May 3, 1866 The Forestry Service was directed to conduct reconaissance survey to the country's forest lands to determine the suitability of the timber for civil and naval purpose, find out the actual condition of the forest, check and prevent trespass and unauthorized encroachment into the forest and prevent illegal cutting of timber. December 18, 1867

Forestry Management Philosophy
Sustainable forestry means managing timberlands and their various resources to meet the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It also means following a land stewardship ethic that integrates timber harvesting for useful products with conservation of soil, air, and maintenance of water quality and wildlife and fish habitat.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative
(SFI) SM
Potlatch uses the best available technology to support its forest management. Potlatch's timberland operations in Arkansas, Idaho and Minnesota employ state-of-the-art Geographic Information Systems to track information about soils, terrain, waterways and other characteristics of the forest. Foresters use this information to plan forest management and harvests with full consideration for these other resources.
Potlatch supports and follows Best Management Practices, or BMPs. Developed by professional foresters, environmentalists and others, these local guidelines outline the best ways to build roads, harvest trees and perform other on-the-ground forestry practices. For example, BMPs often require buffer zones along streams to protect water quality and describe road-building practices that minimize the impact on the forest.
Potlatch supports continuing education of professional loggers to assure continuous improvement in harvesting practices. The health and sustainability of industrial forests in large part depends upon the professionalism of our industry's loggers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many acres of forestland does Potlatch own or control under long term lease?
Arkansas: 513,344 acres Idaho: 671,000 acres Minnesota: 338,000 acres Total: 1,521,344 acres
In addition, Potlatch owns 17,000 acres of hybrid poplar plantations in Oregon, which grow on agricultural land. How much of the wood used by Potlatch comes from its own lands? How much comes from public lands?
The amount varies from year to year and from region to region. Overall, approximately one-third comes from company lands, one-sixth from federal, state and county lands, and one-fifth from private (non-Potlatch) lands. Almost 30 percent originate from unknown sources; this includes waste chips from non-Potlatch sawmills and wood delivered and sold to Potlatch by individuals and companies. For lands owned or controlled by Potlatch, how many acres are open to the public for recreation (including through permits, leases, etc.)?
Virtually all company forestland is available for use by the public. Access is restricted on some of the land during parts of the year - an example is vehicle access on dirt roads during wet seasons. Also, some lands have exclusive hunting leases. What regeneration methods do you use, and how much of each?

Management Team Job Vacancies Public Audit Act Latest News ... Home Report of the Controller and Auditor-General Tumuaki o te Mana Arotake Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry: Management of Biosecurity Risks November 2002 Foreword New Zealand has a great diversity of flora and fauna, much of which is unique in the world. Our economy is heavily dependent upon primary production industries (such as agriculture and horticulture) and tourism. These industries, in turn, rely on the good health of the plants, forests, animals, and marine environment – all of which are vulnerable to harm from pests and diseases. The geographical isolation that has contributed to the uniqueness of New Zealand’s natural environment has also afforded it a good level of natural protection from many of the pests and diseases that are present in other countries. However, the nature and scale of trade and travel is increasing the pressure on our border and we are more at risk from incursions of exotic pests and diseases than ever before. Therefore, to protect the primary production and tourism industries, human health, and our unique biodiversity, it is vital that New Zealand’s biosecurity risk management arrangements are among the best in the world. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has prime responsibility for managing biosecurity risks, balanced against the need to facilitate the free movement of people and goods in and out of the country.

GOOD FORESTRY MANAGEMENT
Environmental sustainability, the capacity for continuance, is about maintaining our environment for future generations to enjoy The majority of virgin pulp used by the mill comes from Sweden and Finland where good forestry stewardship has become a fundamental part of their culture All of the pulp suppliers use ECF (elemental chlorine free) or TCF (total chlorine free) bleaching processes, which avoids the discharge of harmful chlorine emissions to the environment James Cropper is represented on the UK Forest Products Certification Working Group The Company aims to be at the forefront of unfolding developments to ensure that future generations inherit a healthy environment

© Caterpillar Brasil Caterpillar... positioning for the future Caterpillar produces equipments that help generate development and quality of life. For this reason, the company constantly monitors the social and environmental impacts of its operations and those related to the use of its equipment; and maintains in its facility a safe and clean environment. The company was certified with the ISO 14001 in 2001. With the support of its dealers’ network, it provides guidelines to users about the proper techniques to use their equipment, aiming at obtaining the best results with minimum impact to the environment. Caterpillar is also engaged in sustainable development projects so as to find new ways to meet the needs of today, without jeopardizing the environment for future generations.
Based on that, in the beginning of the 90’s, Caterpillar decided to associate its efforts to those of the Tropical Forest Foundation, first in the United States, and later, in 1996, supporting the installation of its Brazilian branch, in Belém, State of Pará, in the Amazon Region.
