AP french literature — The Course. the ability to read and analyze criticallyand to discuss perceptively representative works of french literature.
http://www.collegeboard.com/ap/students/french/lit_cours001.html
The Course This course is designed to introduce students who have advanced language skills to the formal study of a representative body of literary texts in French.
Objectives
An AP French Literature course should help you gain:
  • proficiency in the fundamental language skills that enable you to read and understand prose and verse of moderate difficulty and mature content, as well as to formulate and express critical opinions and judgments in correct oral and written French the ability to read and analyze critically and to discuss perceptively representative works of French literature.
The program is not meant to be a formal survey of literary history, but rather an introduction to representative works of prose, poetry, and drama from different periods. Students should, however, be aware of the cultural context of the works read. You should also acquire the basic concepts and terminology of textual analysis. By learning to identify and interpret the various elements that enter into the composition of a literary text and to perceive their relationships, you will acquire a fuller understanding and appreciation of the art and significance of literature.
Works to be Read
Tteachers are advised to supplement the required "core list" with a number of other representative works in each genre. The number of works to be added is left to the discretion of the individual instructor, who alone can gauge what is feasible and appropriate for a particular group of students. Much more important than the quantity of supplementary works read is the amount of in-depth study of the works chosen in each genre. The goal of the course is to teach students to read, analyze, and understand French literary texts on their own; the means of reaching this goal may vary and may be adjusted to meet the needs and tastes of individual teachers and their students.

The Unmade Bed
"From the oldest story in the world, Sagan produces a 'big' novel full of irony and tenderness. It may be her best book..." Le Monde
Sagan takes the shell off love like someone cracking a walnut. She has never told so well the uncertainties, the guile, the cruelty, the pathos in the endless struggle of a love affair. This is the story of the love of Edouard Valmont, a playwright, for Beatrice Valmont, an actress. Françoise Sagan describes the private sessions of a passions, a duet-duel made more complex because each of the protagonists is a fiction pro. "My Novel, The Unmade Bed , is only the story of love between a man and a woman. It has neither a sad nor happy end." - Sagan Françoise Sagan was born in 1935 and took her nom de plume from the Princess de Sagan of Marcel Proust. She was eighteen years old when she wrote her best-selling Bonjour Tristesse . She had failed her examinations at the Sorbonne and decided to write a novel... The Unmade Bed is a French bestseller published in sixteen countries.

Some examples are: diaries, letters, speeches, letters, interviews, newspapers, autobiographies, official records including government documents, pamphlets, photographs, films, art, novels, music, furniture, clothing, buildings, and jewelry. A secondary source interprets and analyses primary sources. Secondary sources are one step removed from the event. 80. Boys Clothing: French Literary Characters
I have limited information on boys in french literature. This may wellbe because of my inability to speak French. french literature.
http://histclo.hispeed.com/lit/fr/literaryfr.html
Costumes of French Literary Characters
Figure 1.Louis Pergaud's La guerre des boutons provides information on the clothing worn by French village children in the 1950s. This is a scene from the 1960s film. Notice the berets and book bags. I have limited information on boys in French literature. This may well be because of my inability to speak French. We know of several books with boy characters. I do not know, however, of any important French boy literarty character. Some of our French visitors have provided some details to HBC. It appears while there have been books written about French boys, both adult books and children's books. As far as we can determine, however, nome of these characters have arisen to the cultural status that American and British boyhood characters like Oliver Twist or Tom Sawyer acieved. Perhaps our French readers can take issue with this or confirm it. HBC is not sure why there is such a difference in English and French literature.
French Literature
Some French contributors to HBC have confirmed HBC initial assessment that there are more key boyhood characters in Americasn and English lterary works than in French works. Several contributors confirm that there are no novels in French like Tom Sawyer, Oliver Twist or the other important Anglo-American boyhood characters. They are of course important, not only because of the number of such works but because they actually portray American boyhood itself. Many see Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn as a symbol for the American boys. Generations of American boys read about Tom and Huck and joined them on the Mississippi in their imagination. The same is true of British works, including some of the more whimsical 20th century creations like Penrod, Dennis, William, and Jennings. While there are numerous French boy characters as discussed below, none of them have really become an arch symbol of French boyhood like the counterparts in American and Beitish literature.
