Seed sowing - a quick guide
Choose a sunny sheltered and well-drained position for the seed bed, away from trees and dripping rain (eg from buildings). Turn over the soil to full spade depth and break up any lumps. Give the ground a thoroughly good soaking ... more Pruning a hedge Prune shrubs in a formal hedge to resemble a dense, smooth wall. Vigorous, rapidly growing shrubs need more frequent shearing than shrubs that grow more slowly. Dense hedges start with the right pruning techniques at planting time and regular maintenance each year thereafter.

Giannangelo Farms Southwest

GIANNANGELO FARMS SOUTHWEST is a collection of sustainable formal/patterned raised bed organic gardens located near El Morro National Monument, east of Ramah, in Northwestern New Mexico. We grow in a challenging high altitude (7300') desert environment, requiring a great deal of innovation, and persistence. Our gardens feature perennial and annual culinary kitchen and medicinal herbs - for teas, dried herbs, and potpourri; many varieties of lettuces and salad greens, kale, root vegetables, fruit trees, onions, garlic, perennial and annual flowers, edible flowers, an asparagus bed, trellises, pools, and goldfish ponds. All of the gardens have been planted to encourage wildlife - birds, frogs and toads, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. We give Sustainable Organic Gardening, Straw Bale Wall, Rockwork, and Labyrinth Workshops throughout the year, and are open to the public for Guided Garden Tours year around, with the garden at its height from July through September. There are pergolas by garden pools for Private Formal Teas by advance reservation. We have two greenhouses for growing heat loving plants such as basil, tomatoes, and cucumbers, drying herbs, protecting tender perennials - rosemary, French lavender, Bay Laurel, and providing year around salad greens and kitchen herbs. If you would like to visit our gardens please

92. Vegetable Gardening In Containers
Offers tips and techniques, including variety selection, planting information, and common problems. From the Texas Agricultural Extension Service.
http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/container/container.html
Vegetable Gardening In Containers
Sam Cotner, Extension Horticulturist
If your vegetable gardening is limited by insufficient space or an unsuitable area, consider the possibility of raising fresh, nutritious, homegrown vegetables in containers. A window sill, a patio, a balcony or a doorstep will provide sufficient space for a productive mini-garden. Problems with soil-borne diseases, nematodes or poor soil conditions can be easily overcome by switching to a container garden.
Crop Selection Almost any vegetable that will grow in a typical backyard garden will also do well as a container-grown plant. Vegetables which are ideally suited for growing in containers include tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, green onions, beans, lettuce, squash, radishes and parsley. Pole beans and cucumbers also do well in this type of garden, but they do require considerably more space because of their vining growth habit. Variety selection is of extreme importance. Most varieties that will do well when planted in a yard garden will also do well in containers. Some varieties of selected vegetables which are ideally suited for these mini-gardens are indicated in Table 1.

WELCOME !!  This is  YOUR site.
It takes your ideas and interaction to be a success.  Please feel free to post your
questions and suggestions! There is a way to garden without hard work and the use of a lot of time and space.  It’s called SQUARE FOOT GARDENING and was devised by Mel Bartholomew.  This is intensive gardening, where seeds or plants are amassed in small spaces. A typical square foot garden is a 4-foot square, which means it contains 16 one-foot squares. Into each one-foot square seeds or tiny plants are planted to allow just the right amount of space between and among the plants.  These plantings will grow into mature plants producing full size vegetables.  Our will get you started!  Continue through our other items and get... g r o w i n g A garden should be in a constant state of change, expansion, experiment, adventure and above all, a loving journey for the caretaker of the garden

97. NSiS: Florida Native Plants - Gardening For Wildlife
Information on native plant, bird, butterfly and wildlife gardening in Florida.
http://www.nsis.org/garden/garden-native-wildlife.html
Wildlife Gardening Gardening for wildlife is simple if you're aware of what wildlife is in your area and what their needs are. You may wish to attract wildlife to feed in your yard or go further and provide a diverse habitat. Wildlife habitat necessities
Cover
Plants provide wildlife with protection from weather and predators as well as a place to rest, eat, and raise young. Often plants also provide food, and some will collect rain water for drinking, too.
Food
All wildlife feed on plants or other animals. Ideally, the diversity of plants in the yard will provide year-round food.
Water
Fresh drinking water is essential for wildlife. Some animals need bodies of water for egg laying and early development and some live partially or entirely in water. Ponds are gaining in popularity, but simply placing a birdbath or large plant saucer filled with fresh water will supply the needs of a wide variety of wildlife.
