Find Out Why Freedom Is Our National Theme America's Quest for Freedom Series By Juxtaposing some of our most significant stories, this series traces the odyssey of America to find freedom and justice for all.
The quest for freedom is the real American Dream. This Reader's Digest-produced series dramatizes our common history pursuing that ideal. By juxtaposing events usually studied in isolation, it reveals that incidents and eras which increased freedoms for some groups were often accompanied by forces suppressing liberty for others. Its theme is that while our history is about conflicting and contradictory movements, our historical momentum is leading us toward more freedoms for all. An effective tool for meeting standards in US History and Government, these programs: Cover the major periods of US History

Course Title Description Level Credit American Government This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of how our government works. The concepts of democracy, political attitudes, the political spectrum, citizenship, political systems, economic systems, social systems, and the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights are examined. In addition, course objectives include improvement in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and study skills. American Law This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the American legal system. The concepts of civil and criminal law, how law affects our daily lives, the adult criminal justice process, the juvenile justice process, the civil justice process, and the various areas of civil law are examined. In addition course objectives include improvement in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and study skills. American Government This college preparatory course in American government is a study of the American political process. The primary goal is to present basic information that young citizens need for an understanding of their government - how it operates and their relationship to it. Recognizing that a knowledge of fact is not sufficient to guarantee good citizenship, an emphasis is placed on the need for patriotism, civic-mindedness, loyalty to nation and community, and respect for the law. To achieve this far-reaching goal the students will learn the importance of carrying out the duties and responsibilities of citizenship. They will be encouraged to develop positive attitudes toward their responsibilities as members of many groups - family, school, community, state, and nation.
