ALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH
State Sponsored Y2K Celebration A Fraud
The State of California is going all out to commemorate the Gold Rush as a major component of its Year 2000 celebrations.
But the commemoration should not be a celebration, but rather a time of reappraisal and a turning away from the state sponsored 'gold rush' promotional publicity of the past. When California adopted the nickname the Golden State, it elevated money and political power above the truth. The harsh reality of California history as an American territory is that it began in a state of horror, continuing and expanding on a racial holocaust begun by the Spaniards and Mexicans against the native families of the region.
Gold Rush and Genocide
The genocide against the native Californians was focused on the coastal peoples under the Spanish and Mexican 'mission' periods. But when the Americans suddenly discovered the Penutian goldfields in the Miwok regions of the interior mountains the violence against native citizens spread with devastating rapidity. Miwok This story is partly told in The Piercing of the Yokut Shield (Anderson 1995).

But coming as it did in the same year that America took California from Mexico, Marshall's far richer find was pivotal in changing the course of national history. Fueled by the ambitions and needs of hordes of fortune-seekers, the territory would, within the next two years, be admitted into the Union as a "free" state, thereby heating up the political pot that ultimately exploded into the Civil War. In The Age of Gold: The California Gold Rush and the New American Dream , historian H.W. Brands examines these whirlwind developments through accounts left by those who took part in them. After setting the scene of the discovery and explaining how word of it spread around the world, Brands follows the individual progress of a handful of pilgrims as they travel overland or by ship to this 19th century El Dorado. He then demonstrates how the bustling region proceeded to cast its shadow over the rest of the country. The First American Brands, whose other biography is

Between 1790 and 1830 the population of Georgia increased six-fold. The western push of the settlers created a problem. Georgians continued to take Native American lands and force them into the frontier. By 1825 the Lower Creek had been completely removed from the state under provisions of the Treaty of Indian Springs. By 1827 the Creek were gone. Cherokee had long called western Georgia home. The Cherokee Nation continued in their enchanted land until 1828. It was then that the rumored gold , for which De Soto had relentlessly searched, was discovered in the North Georgia mountains. Trail Where They Cried In his book Don't Know Much About History , Kenneth C. Davis writes: Hollywood has left the impression that the great Indian wars came in the Old West during the late 1800's, a period that many think of simplistically as the "cowboy and Indian" days. But in fact that was a "mopping up" effort. By that time the Indians were nearly finished, their subjugation complete, their numbers decimated. The killing, enslavement, and land theft had begun with the arrival of the Europeans. But it may have reached its nadir when it became federal policy under President (Andrew) Jackson. The Cherokees in 1828 were not nomadic savages. In fact, they had assimilated many European-style customs, including the wearing of gowns by Cherokee women. They built roads, schools and churches, had a system of

Welcome to Pacific Gold Rush Ramblers The Club Pacific Gold Rush Ramblers was found in 1996 as a chapter of the American Motors Corporation Rambler Club. Our purpose is to encourage the use, restoration, and preservation of automobiles built by American Motors Corporation from 1957 through 1969. Although our focus is the cars made during these years, our club is open to anyone with an interest in the cars and trucks built by American Motors Corporation. About us We publish The Gold Standard bi-monthly. It is one of the many benefits that our members receive. Our dues are a modest $20/year. We encourage our members to join AMCRC for $18/year as well. The Pacific Gold Rush Ramblers holds meetings bi-monthly. We meet at various sites in and around the area between San Francisco Bay and the Gold Country in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Each meeting has a theme of interest to the members. We have met at the Jelly Belly Factory, the Behring Auto Museum, the Towe Ford Museum, the Gold Bug Mine, taken a drive tour to Mt. Diablo State Park, and the Pacific Western Railroad Museum. Upcoming Meetings If you are interested in joining in the fun with Pacific Gold Rush Ramblers, click here. Please visit our Meeting page for upcoming meetings.
