your free, fully functional evaluation software
The Cayman Graphics, Standalone Power CG Plus is a Freeform, Full Color,
Antialiased, Video Titling program. It can be used to create high quality, 32 bit
title graphics with Alpha Channel Information. The Alpha Channel information is used
to "Key" (overlay) the Title Graphics over video. The Power CG Plus has Manual and Automatic "On Air" modes to display pages.
Each individual page can be assigned a Transition Type, Transition Duration (speed)
and a Dwell (hold) Duration.
Put your Text in Motion
Power CG Plus has Text FX. Text FX let's you independently animate each of the
1000 layers of a Power CG Plus page. Text FX has a timeline where you can set multiple keyframes for each layer of the
title page. The keyframes allow you to vary the cropping, size, position, blur, and fade
levels over time. More than 100 keyframes can be set for each layer.
Learn More About Text FX
The Text FX animations require specialized hardware enhancement to playback in realtime. VGA cards are not capable of displaying these Text FX animations. If your system can playback sequences of TGA images, it will be able to play the Text FX animations.
Download your free Evaluation software here
To run the software you need either Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. You must have at least a Pentium system with a minimum of 32 MBytes of ram. The recommended minimum system is a Pentium with 64 MBytes of ram.

Composing Active Proxies to Extend the Web
Rohit Khare rohit@uci.edu , University of California at Irvine Adam Rifkin adam@cs.caltech.edu , California Institute of Technology
Introduction
In considering the future of "compositional software architectures" as rendered through distributed object systems and on the World Wide Web, it is useful to set aside the hype of new technologies and consider what is already being accompished with existing infrastructures. On the Web, users and developers have already adopted two powerful ways to compose active processing with information distribution: active pages ("cgi-bin") and active proxies . In this position paper, we focus on the latter as a tool for parties beyond the original developer to externalize extensions to a software or information architecture.
Our Position
Independent extensibility is a critical affordance of compositional software architectures. To realize the full potential of concurrent evolution of systems by all the system's stakeholders, architects should be encouraged to support externalized, component-oriented hooks. In particular, active proxies on the Web demonstrate the power of independent evolution and the serendipitous synergy of orthogonal services. Soon, HTTP in conjunction with PEP will systematize this power and bring it to clients and servers as well.

of tables are not recommended when it comes to composing easyto Each pixel has itsown color. Similarly, one can use tables in HTML to create crude graphics.

Table Graphics
There are two "legitimate" uses of tables: dispalying tabular data, and for simple page layout. Other uses of tables are not recommended when it comes to composing easy-to-use pages and sites.
Legitimate Uses
Tabular Data
A good deal of information can be expressed in tables. For example, one column could be a student's name, the other columns could be assignments, and each row could represent a student and his/her grades. Data from spreadsheets and many databases fit nicely into tables.
Page Layout
Because HTML is not an optimal page-layout or page-description language, many authors resort to using tables to organize page content. Table columns can lend a page a newspaper look, content in a narrow table can be used to provide wider margins, and narrow left- or right-aligned columns can be used to house site-menus. They can also be used to achieve spacing and alignments that aren't available with normal paragraphs and lists.

Graphics shown on a computer screen are an array of pixels. One could imagine a matrix that is m x n in size, with

Saving an Image
  • Select Save this Image As... from the pop-up menu.
  • Adding html to your web page to make your graphics appear
    First, you need to permit your graphics files within your VAX account just as you would any other file:
    permit blueball.gif
    Then you need to add the html within your web page to make the graphic appear:
    <img src="blueball.gif">
    Within the IMG SRC tag you should add the ALT= parameter. The word you place after ALT= appears to those who have text-only browsers. Other useful parameters to add are WIDTH=n and HEIGHT=n, where n is the number of pixels you want the image to fill. Adding this allows the browser to calculate how much area to leave for the image. With these additions the above becomes:
    <img src="blueball.gif" ALT=IMAGE WIDTH=5 HEIGHT=5>
    Background images and colors
    Backgrounds which appear on web pages are saved the same way as other images but they require a special html code within the BODY tag. For example:
    <BODY background="tanbg.gif">

    Final Exam
    Format
    • Closed book, closed notes
    • The final exam will be about two hours long.
    • Review what you have programmed in the labs. There will be questions concerning specific things required by the lab assignments.
    • The final is comprehensive with an emphasis on the material not covered in the midterm.
    • There will be approximately fifteen questions which will require short descriptions of algorithms, pseudo code, setting up matrices, explaining terms in equations, etc.
    • I'm looking for answers that convince me you know what you're talking about. If I ask a yes/no question, a simple 'Yes' or 'No' will receive little value - you always need to explain your answer. Sometimes I ask questions for which I'll accept either a 'Yes' or a 'No' if accompanied by appropriate explanations.
    • I give partial credit. It's never a good idea to leave an answer blank. Tell me what you know about the problem/answer to get at least partial credit.
    • I don't expect you to memorize complicated equations, but if I give an equation to you, you should be able to explain its terms, describe what it does, be able to modify it appropriately, etc.
    • You should read the relevant sections in the book to reinforce what we've covered in class.

    SYNOPSIS
    Raster3D uses a fast Z-buffer algorithm to produce high quality pixel images featuring one shadowing light source, additional non-shadowing light sources, specular highlighting, transparency, and Phong shaded surfaces. Output is in the form of a pixel image with 24 bits of color information per pixel plus one matte channel. Raster3D does not depend on graphics hardware. The rendering program currently supports output to files in AVS, JPEG, TIFF, PNG and SGI libimage format. To actually view or manipulate the images produced, you must also have installed an image viewing package (e.g. John Cristy's ImageMagick or the SGI libimage utilities). The Raster3D rendering program can be integrated with ImageMagick to expand the flexibility of output formats and interactive use.
