I absolutely love this book to use with my second grade students! I teach only once a week for a half hour per class, so we do a page a week. The students love adding to their book each week, taking the time to play each game by themselves and with a partner, and it will be a great keepsake for every student! It does take time to run all the pages off with construction paper so plan ahead! This book covers most of the topics that my curriculum includes. This is a great find!! Rating: Learning Spanish

Programs CEPAL 2002 Summer Program Read more about the internships
2002 marks the sixth year that CEPAL will be sending Canadian volunteers to work in the Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon. This is a unique opportunity to learn about life in a Palestinian refugee camp, while working with children to improve their English, French, or basic computer skills. CEPAL works in partnership with local Palestinian NGOs in the camps; volunteers teach as part of their summer school programs, or less formal classes as part of day-camp summer activities. Although we focus on providing English/French/computer classes, we are also looking for people who would be able to teach dance or art, or who would be able to facilitate a drama workshop. CEPAL volunteers are required to teach (or facilitate activities) for a minimum of four hours a day, Mondays through Fridays. Volunteers will be expected to work beyond their scheduled teaching to prepare adequately for their classes/workshops. Location of Program
Volunteers will work and live in Bourj el-Barajneh camp (in Beirut) or Wavel Camp (in Baalbeck). Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit most areas of Lebanon during their stay, including refugee camps in other parts of the country. Lebanon is a beautiful country- incredibly varied peoples and histories, and old ruins, caves, mountains, and beaches to visit. In the summer there are many music festivals and other cultural activities to attend.

AN INTEGRATED Unit FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
This web page is designed to teach middle to late elementary students(third to fifth grade) about the concepts of electricity through multiple hands on, reading, and writing activities. This site will give multiple electricity activities that are applicable to different academic subjects. Each activity is mainly science based but the different lessons will be altered to fit the curriculum of all academic subject areas. The activities are organized by one of the following subjects, Children's Literature, Science Lab Activities, Math Activities, Art Activities, and History Activities. Children's Literature Below is a list and short summary of children's books that incorporate the topic of electricity in some form. 1.) Berger, Melvin. "Wild Weather" Ranger Rick 1993: pg. 4-5
This issue of Ranger Rick explains thunderstorms and other kinds of "Wild Weather." It relates lightning to electricity by explaining in basic terms how electricity forms during a thunderstorm. This book is a great introductory book to relating electricity to the everyday world. Branley, Franklin M.

After a year-long fellowship at Harvard I began a PhD at Cambridge in 1991; it was completed in 1995, entitled 'Republicanism and the origins of Jean-Baptiste Say's Traité d'économie politique, 1763-1803'. In 1993 I was appointed Lecturer in Intellectual History at Sussex, at the same time as Brian Young. We joined John Burrow and Donald Winch to form one of the few Intellectual History groups in British universities. I teach part of the Basic Texts core course for SPT and, since 1996, the historical component of TER the optional course Socialisms . I currently supervise two PhD students who are studying the influence of English republican ideas on the French Revolution and the small/large state distinction in late eighteenth-century thought. m.vangelderen@sussex.ac.uk After my first degree in political science at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, I did my doctorate in history at the European University Institute in Florence. The title of the thesis was The Political Thought of the Dutch Revolt, 1555-1590 ; a revised version was published in 1993 by Cambridge University Press in the series Ideas in Context . The years between 1989 and 1995 were spent in Berlin, where I taught early modern history. After a Fellowship at the Netherlands institute for Advanced Studies I came to Sussex to take up the Chair of Intellectual History. With Richard Whatmore I teach the course Basic Texts and Traditions for SPT, covering classic texts from theorists such as Machiavelli, Grotius, Hobbes, and Spinoza, and traditions such as natural law theory and republicanism. I also teach courses for the BA in Intellectual History and a range of core and optional courses for the MA in Intellectual History and the History of Political Thought . These courses focus on the early modern period; good examples are the MA options

Our Home Page Our Staff Our Activites For All Ages (0-99+) Our Mission Statement ... Our History
When Pastor Long resigned in August 1945 the Church was without a Pastor until May 1946, when Rev. A. R. Pyke, who was serving as Chaplain in the American Army in Japan, answered the call. Mr. Pyke was an outstanding speaker and strong evangelist. During the 1950's the Greater Moncton Youth for Christ held their Saturday night rallies at Highfield.
Mr. Pyke baptised more than four hundred people. Though over six hundred names of inactive members were erased from the roll, the membership stood at 1159 when Mr. Pyke concluded his Pastorate in December 1954.
Rev. W. Steadman Smith was Assistant Pastor from August 1948 to July 1951. He was the first of several assistant pastors at Highfield. After Mr. Smith's resignation, Rev. Maurice Fletcher became assistant.
Upon Mr. Pyke's resignation, Mr. Fletcher accepted the Pastorate. Rev. Melvin Reade became Assistant and Youth Director from June 1957 to February 1958.
Mr. Fletcher led the Church to pay off a considerable portion of the large debt for the Youth Centre. Mr. Fletcher was not in agreement with our Maritime Baptist Convention. At the Annual Business Meeting in 1958, a motion to sever Highfield from the Convention was defeated by a substantial majority. The Pastor and Assistant Pastor then resigned and more than 130 members withdrew from the Church; subsequently organizing the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

History of the Coast Miwok at Point Reyes
Before the Europeans came to California, the Coast Miwok people were the inhabitants of what we now call Marin and southern Sonoma Counties. They knew and blended with this bountiful land for thousands of years, developing a rich economy based on gathering, fishing and hunting. Village communities of 75 to several hundred people developed in sheltered places near fresh water and plentiful food. "Kule Loklo" (meaning "Bear Valley") is a recreated village. It stands where no village ever was, but where one might have stood. Coast Miwok life was intricately woven into the changing seasons. In the late spring, fresh new greens of Indian lettuce, young nettle leaves and clover were gathered. Fire-hardened digging sticks were used by the women to reach deep-set roots and bulbs. The ocean provided kelp in large amounts, some to be eaten fresh, the rest dried and stored for the winter. Tule was gathered in the fall for skirts and tule baskets. The summer sun ripened grasses and flower seeds, gathered by hitting the ripened seed with a beater basket and letting them fall directly into a collecting basket. Fall was the season for collecting a variety of nuts: acorns (stored in a granary for year-round consumption), buckeye, hazel and bay. Tule was cut and dried for kotcas (houses), boats and mats. Gray willow for baskets and traps was abundant. Winter and early spring were times of shortage when stored acorns, seeds and kelp became important food sources.
