Other headings include history of radiology in different regions of the country, related to different modalities, radiation rotection, contrast media, etc. All contributions will be acknowledged. Radiology in North India further evolved at the time of partition in 1947, when a large number of medical practitioners including radiologists migrated to Delhi from Pakistan. Some of the prominent radiologists among them were Dr. Diwan Chand Agarwal, Dr. R K Handa, Dr. R C Goulatia, Dr. R M Sharma and Dr. Roshan Lal. Dr. D C Agarwal had been one of the leading radiologists in Lahore since 1927. This remarkable man laid down the foundation of a modern X-ray clinic in Delhi. Similar advancements were taking place in the southern, western and eastern parts of India and Madras (now Chennai), Bombay (now Mumbai) and Calcutta grew in stature. The Barnard Institute of Radiology was established in Chennai and many radiologists who could not go abroad for training, went to Madras for their post-graduate studies.

India - History
Photo by Rajendra Shaw Following independence India was divided up in a process called partition, to create Pakistan as a Muslim state. This was a difficult process; many millions of people had to travel between the new states, and in the unrest, people were killed. Mahatma Gandhi opposed partitition; he was assassinated by a Hindu fundamentalist. The dispute between India and Pakistan over Kashmir began at independence and has rumbled on ever since with periodic outbreaks of cross-border skirmishing.. The potential dangers of conflict over Kashmir were underlined when both countries tested nuclear weapons within weeks of each other in May 1998 and for several months in 2002 there seemed to be a real risk of war. History:
The invasion of the White Huns brought all this to an end, and northern India became fragmented, and was only reunified with the arrival of Muslims from the west. During this time, the south had been trading by sea with the Romans and Egyptians. It took some time for Muslim forces to forge a permanent presence in northern India: in the late 12th century, Muhammad of Ghori, who had built a powerbase in what is now the Punjab, rapidly expanded eastwards. His conquests led to the establishment of Delhi as a major centre of political power and ultimately its position as the Indian capital. The next major influx after the Muslims was the Moghuls, who swept over the mountain passes from Central Asia in the 1520s and maintained effective control of the north until the mid-18th century.
Pakistan section). Since this time India has been a democratic republic, with the first proper elections taking place in 1951, and Hindu law has been modernised to a great extent, eradicating many of the old inequalities. Nonetheless, the caste system, which assigns an individual to a particular stratum in society from birth, has proved resilient to reform.

india's history. india is derived from the river Indus, along whosebanks the Aryans from Central Asia came down over the Himalayas
    http://www.embassyofindia.com/in_hist.htm
MAP FACT SHEET VISITNG INDIA India's History "India" is derived from the river Indus, along whose banks the Aryans from Central Asia came down over the Himalayas and into the Indo-Gangetic plain around 1500 BC. However, the first evidence of human settlement in the Indian sub-continent dates back to 6000 BC, and these settlements expanded around 3000 BC into what is today known as the Indus valley civilisation, which apparently flourished till the coming of the Aryans. Available archaeological evidence is insufficient, and the Indus script yet un-deciphered, to enable a detailed account of this period in Indian history, but there is enough to show that the Indus valley civilisation was highly urbanised, its cities marvels of town planning, based on agriculture and commerce and trading with contemporary Mesopotamia, Sumeria and Egypt. What is known as the medieval age of Indian history can be loosely termed the age of invasions, beginning with the Turks in the 11th century. The Turkish Sultanat gave way before the onslaught of the Mongols who established the great Mughal empire (1526 to 1857), which at its zenith stretched from today's Afghanistan to deep down into India's Southern peninsula. With Vasco de Gama's arrival at Calicut on India's western coast in 1498, the latter half of India's medieval era saw the Portuguese, the Dutch, the French and the British entering India from the sea, initially as traders and later as colonisers.

ndia - The History of A Country
T he spirit of India has fascinated the world with its very mystique. A subcontinent with a 5000-year-old history, a civilization united by its diversity, India has always been known as a land where history echoes itself with all its wonders in every piece of stone and every particle of dust.
The Mauryas were the first ruling dynasty to control almost the whole of North India and some parts of South India as one territorial unit. Founded by Chandragupta Maurya with the able guidance of Kautilya-Chandragupta's mentor and author of the famous treatise Arthshastra-he was able to establish a highly centralized administration. The empire, however, reached its peak under Ashoka who left pillars and rock-carved edicts that delineate the enormous span of his territory. These can be seen in Delhi, Gujarat, Orissa, Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, and Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh. Following the death of Ashoka in 232 BC, the empire rapidly disintegrated, finally collapsing in 184 BC.
Following the decline of the Mauryan Empire, a number of powerful kingdoms arose in Central and South India, of which the Satavahanas, Kalingas and Vakatakas hold precedence. Later on, these regions saw the rise of some of the greatest dynasties of South India in the form of the Cholas, Pandyas, Cheras, Chalukyas, and Pallavas.

"What makes a nation, is the past, what justifies one nation against others is the past", says the noted historian Eric Hobsbawm. Hence, when talking of a nation, it becomes very imperative that the past should also be talked about. And the past of India is as fascinating and interesting as it is momentous.
    ORIGIN OF INDIA:
Indus Civilisation: The best place to start is no doubt the beginning but the beginning of India can be traced back to thousands of years ago, somewhere in the 2500 BC with the earliest but very advanced civilisation which was indigenous. Around 4,500 years ago, cities began to rise among the scattered agricultural settlements on the Indus plain. These were the cities of Mohenjo-daro and Harrapa. The ruins found show that the quality of life in those cities was higher than many Indians enjoy today. Around 1500 BC, after a continuous existence of 1,000 years, the Indus Valley Civilisation vanished from the face of earth. Aryan Invasion: In the middle of the second millennium BC, India was overwhelmed by the first of many invaders: the Aryans. They came in about 1500 BC from the grasslands of central Asia and thereby lived a nomadic life based on cattle raising. They settled in the region to the north west of India, known as the Punjab. With time, they drifted into the subcontinent and settled around the Gangetic Valley, pushing the early dark-skinned Dravidian settlers deeper into the south of the peninsula. The Aryans were the first of many invaders to India. There were constant invasions from Asia - Alexander the Great, the Scythians, the Huns, the Arabians, Persians and Afghans. Various religious groups battled for dominion. Power fluctuated between the Hindu, Muslim and Buddhists.

CBSG India - a case study on 'regional network as conservation engineers by Sally Walker A case Study on Captive Breeding Programmes History CBSG India was convened in 1991 by Sally Walker under the auspices of Zoo Outreach Organisation. CBSG, India was initiated in 1991 following a comment of CBSG, SSC Chairman, U. S. Seal that regional meetings of CBSG would allow more grass roots participation. During a lecture on international cooperation in the Wildlife Institute of India Zoo Consultancy Project Zoo Management Course, it was clear that interest was high in zoo managers. Permission was sought from Dr. Seal and the first satellite CBSG was launched. Since that time CBSG "nodes" or national or regional networks have been started throughout the world with varying degrees of success. CBSG, India has been among the most active. For the most part CBSG, India functions through other networks and activities which have been organised under joint auspices of Zoo Outreach Organisation and CBSG, India, e.g. the Taxon and subject based networks (see Objective # 5), such as the invertebrate, amphibian, reptile, bat, education, networks, the CBSG process workshops (see Objective # 6), such as PHVAs (6), CAMPs (12), etc., by publishing a newsletter as well as appropriate articles in ZOOS' PRINT, and finally by collecting and linking individuals with a particular interest and expertise which may be useful to interactive management of captive and wild populations as members. Not all have been able to participate in either taxon networks or workshops but are "on call" in case some appropriate activity should emerge.

India launches a powerful GSLV rocket toward space Space technology has allowed the nation of India to move into the world of high technology, a place previously occupied only by more-developed nations.
India has been up there since July 18, 1980, when it became the eighth to demonstrate it could send a satellite to orbit above Earth. India launched the satellite Rohini 1 on an Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) rocket from the Sriharikota Island launch site.
Indian cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma spent eight days in 1984 aboard the USSR's space station Salyut 7.
In recent years, India has concentrated much of its space development work on complex applications satellites and more powerful rockets. The nation's two main interests are satellites for remote sensing and communications used for weather pictures, disaster warnings and feeds to 552 television and 164 radio stations on the ground.

The Spirit of India - History The Spirit of India has evolved from the concept of ShowcaseIndia. ShowcaseIndia is a dream hidden in the hearts of most Indians and definetly most Indians living in America. Over the years, Indians have settled in increasingly large numbers in the United States and have found that there is very little appreciation or understanding of what India was and is. As a result most of them have a passionate desire to somehow improve the image of India in the minds of Americans. Dr. Gopal Basisht is one such Indian in America who has always felt strongly about wanting to change the image of India in the minds and hearts of Americans. For the last several years, Gopal has been pursuing his idea of creating an entity which will address this objective. To this end, numerous workshops, meetings, brainstorming sessions, one-to-one meetings involving hundreds of people have been organised in India and the US. The first major workshop/meeting was held in October 1998 in Orlando, Florida, USA. The name ShowcaseIndia was adopted in this meeting.
