"Get Beached with a Good Book" Family Night is Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from 6-8 pm. Come dressed in beach attire and read with your students. The Book Fair will be open during this time!
Young Hoosier Book Breakfast - January 28, 2003
Breakfast was enjoyed by some 4th and 5th grade students this month! The students had read at least one of the 2002-2003 Young Hoosier books and had taken computerized tests over the books. The program is open to any 4th or 5th grade student and the media center hosts monthly breakfasts. Our next breakfast will be during the last week in February...keep on reading! Book Fair
We rounded up Clifford the Big Red Dog and lassoed some great books at the Moorhead Book Fair Family Night on Thursday, December 5, 2002. Fun was had by all. The staff of the media center appreciates all of the support throughout the week and we hope everyone enjoys their books. Storytelling
Stories were spun by Celestine Bloomfield on October 22, 2002 in the media center. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students enjoyed humorous, spooky, and traditional stories. One student asked when she was finished, "Could you please tell us another story?" and she did!

By VICKI URBANIK The Duneland School Corporation is facing severe funding shortfalls, but that isn’t stopping its students and staff from achieving great things. Monday night’s school board meeting showcased the recent accomplishments of the Chesterton High School swim team, speech and debate team, the high school building itself, and Duneland’s media system. A standing-room-only crowd of students and parents turned out for the start of the board meeting. The CHS swim team was recognized for taking fifth at the state competition this year. Coach Kevin Kinel said this year marked the second consecutive dual meet season championship, the sixth consecutive Duneland Conference championship and the fourth consecutive sectional championship. Before this year, the best CHS did at the state was to place 7th. “It’s really a credit to these guys,” Kinel said as members of the swim team stood up.

Watch Hoosier Pride in Action Elementary School Activities Vital for Middle Grades Reading Programs by Linda Hoke Warsaw Community Schools Recognition and introduction of authors in general is of importance to Warsaw Community Schools’ elementary library patrons. Recognizing and introducing Indiana authors as special people to students in our classrooms and library media centers is a priority for making the writing process come alive for our students. Knowing that some of these special people come from Indiana and that Rebecca Castaldi Jones and Rene King Moreno went to school in Warsaw brings the writing even closer for our young students. Making connections that these special people were born, grew up, went to school, and began writing careers in our state and town allows our students to realize that the same might be true for them as well. We have also recognized other local authors in our library media centers that write other than children’s literature. The author unit in our library media center curriculum acknowledges authors as real people. We sing “Happy Birthday” to authors in the lower grades, and intermediate students are introduced to the real-life processes that encouraged these people to make writing their choice of work for life.

ALA MW 2000
Major schools sales for M3 and Databases SIRS Mandarin has a unique combination of databases and library system in its portfolio - giving them an advantage when approaching a large schools system with ambitions beyond merely automating the library. Recent successes have been in Alabama Indiana and Ohio schools.
Alabama Virtual Library chooses SIRS.
Funded by the Alabama Legislature and managed by the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS), AVL provides online database access to public K-12 schools, public libraries, two-year colleges and member institutions of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (four-year colleges and universities). The Alabama Virtual Library and the Alabama Public Library Service are pleased that SIRS has become a partner in providing high quality electronic information to the students and citizens of Alabama, said Dr. Lamar Veatch, Director of APLS. SIRS represents a unique product that is very well suited to the needs of our students and teachers. We see SIRS as a critical element in the structure of the Alabama Virtual Library. SIRS reference databases contain thousands of full-text articles and graphics from almost 6,000 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals and U.S. government publications. Database topics include global issues, economics, the environment, business, science, health, history, society, U.S. government legislation, culture and the arts and humanities.
