Post-baccalaureate studies are ideal for adults who have already earned a bachelor’s degree but who wish to make themselves more marketable, broaden their professional knowledge, or prepare for a career change. A full- or part-time course of supplementary undergraduate study can help you meet your career goals.
Admission Categories:
Special Status Second Bachelor’s Degree Second Bachelor’s Degree – Instructional Level 1 Certification Additional Teacher Certification Special Status Special status gives students the flexibility to explore new interests, expand their knowledge areas, and prepare for graduate study. Because students admitted under special status are seeking personal enrichment and not officially pursuing a degree, financial aid is not available to them. Second Bachelor’s Degree (non-teaching) Once you are accepted to the second bachelor’s degree program, your official transcripts will be evaluated according to your intended major. Ninety-four (94) credits will be "transferred" to your new program. You are then responsible for (1) earning a minimum of 30 additional IUP credits and (2) meeting the requirements for graduation established by the department and college in which the new degree is to be earned. Your prior coursework and the requirements for your new degree may demand completion of more than 30 undergraduate credits.

Pioneer Regional School Corporation - EMPLOYMENT OF SUBSTITUTES The School Board recognizes the need to procure the services of substitutes in order to continue the operation of the schools as a result of the absence of regular personnel. The Superintendent shall employ substitutes as services are required to replace temporarily-absent regular staff members. Such assignment of substitutes may be terminated when their services are no longer required. Professional substitutes must possess a valid Indiana professional certification kept on file in the Office of the Superintendent. SUBSTITUTE TEACHER CERTIFICATION PLAN Pioneer Regional School Corporation employs sixty-five (65) certified staff. On any given school day, one or more regularly assigned teachers are routinely absent due to classroom field trips, professional staff development activities, individual professional growth conferences, school business, personal illness, etc. It is the goal of the Corporation to provide each individual student with the best educational experience possible. This means the least amount of disruption to the instructional day is most important. Therefore, recruiting and retaining the most effective substitute teachers to augment the regular teaching staff is a high priority mission. Education Requirements Category 1: A substitute teacher who holds a current Indiana Teacher License and who meets all local criteria will be exempt from the substitute teacher certification requirement.

    Message from the Chairperson
Welcome to the home page of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Indiana University.  We are a graduate department only; all undergraduate programs are offered through the Office of Teacher Education . Within the department, students can select masters, specialist or doctoral degree programs. At the masters level, we offer degrees in art education elementary and early childhood education, secondary education social studies education , and special education .  Within the secondary education program, there are generalist, mathematics, music, and science education tracks.  Individuals with a language background may wish to consider masters programs in the Language Education Department although they are certainly welcome in our elementary and secondary education programs.  Students with a background outside of education who wish to gain teacher certification should know that the Elementary Certification Graduate Program is the only program that links both certification and a masters degree.  In each of the other programs, teacher certification is controlled though the School of Education Certification Office but with appropriate course selection, most coursework can be counted for both certification and a masters degree. Currently, specialist degrees are offered in elementary education, secondary education, special education, and science education.  These degrees are for individuals who wish to continue their education beyond the masters but are not interested in pursuing doctorates.  We are revising the programs and expect, within the next year, to merge the four specialist degrees into a single specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Despite the lower salaries, many teachers say they are attracted to the charter schools because they have more flexibility in their teaching.

ESL Certification in Indiana By Trish Morita-Mullaney, Lawrence Township Schools K-12 ESL Teacher's License Requirements Perhaps you are an ESL professional, anxious to become a part of a public school system and serve K-12 children who have ESL needs. Perhaps you have a Bachelors or Masters in TESOL or ESL experience from working overseas. If the answer to both of these statements is "yes" for you or a fellow ESL professional, this article will clarify what is required to earn the respected title of ESL teacher in a K-12 public school building. Presently, the only requirement expressed by Indiana State law is that a person wanting to serve ESL students in a K-12 public school setting must have a valid Indiana Teacher's license. This license may be in elementary or secondary education with areas of specialization. Even if those specialties are not related to the ESL field, it does qualify an individual to impart certified instruction to an ESL population. (515 IAC 1-1-20). The law states, "Persons are strongly encouraged to complete the (ESL) certification pattern. The word encouraged does not imply that you must meet these criteria.
