West Lafayette, Indiana 47907-1026
As one of the six regional aquaculture learning centers (Indiana, Iowa, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington), South Putnam conducts two to three workshops a year for beginning and advanced aquaculture instructors from around the nation. The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Program and the Cooperative Extension Service have provided instructors for each of the training programs. The South Putnam program received a value-added grant from the state of Indiana to build a mobile aquaculture laboratory. The mobile lab was constructed to transport to other schools and special events (fairs, farm shows, FFA conventions) to outreach, promote and educate students and individuals throughout Indiana and beyond about aquaculture. South Putnam is also working with inner city schools in helping to set up and maintain aquaculture programs within their schools.

Welcome to the
Indiana North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement! The North Central Association Commission on Accre ditation and School Improvement is a nationally recognized regional accrediting organization whose purposes are to accredit schools and to support schools in their efforts for school improvement. It is a not-for-profit, voluntary membership organization of approximately 9,100 schools in a 19-state region plus schools of the Department of Defense Dependents and Navajo Nation. In Indiana, the NCA CASI represents 561 elementary, middle and secondary, optional special function, unit, college prep and adult/vocational schools.
NCA CASI was originally formed in 1895 as a society to discuss and resolve issues relating to education in the late 1800s. By 1901, the Association had appointed a Commission on Accredited Schools to develop standards for schools. In 1904, the Association approved its first list of 156 accredited schools. Indiana's Emmerich Manual was the first Indiana school to be accredited by this Association, followed shortly by Alexandria-Monroe High School.
In 1965, the Commission began a re-evaluation program requiring self-study and peer review visits on a regular schedule. The requirement was that each member participate in a self-study and team visit at least once during each seven-year cycle (now a five-year cycle). NCA CASI provides a school improvement model focusing on achieving growth in student learning. It is a process for change and accountability. The NCA CASI process requires planning, implementing, and assessing using a data-driven results-oriented model.

Project Abstract
The Center for Vocational Personnel Preparation at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and 34 area vocational-technical schools propose to develop a model for vocational teacher education that transforms the present one, which is limited by traditional institutional and geographic boundaries, to an Internet-based communications system for vocational educators in western Pennsylvania. To meet this goal, we propose to achieve the following educational objectives: (a) enhance field-based teacher, director, supervisor, and co-op certification programs, (b) increase vocational teachers' access to university faculty, (c) extend the reach of in-service workshops and seminars, (d) increase communication and coordination with vocational school administrators and advisors, and (e) link vocational educators and their students to representatives from business, industry, and the trades. Current constraints to meeting these objectives include:
  • It is increasingly difficult to fund rising travel costs required to deliver field-based vocational certification programs.

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY (PLTW)
AS VOCATIONAL COURSES
Revised 2/4/03 Introduction
Indiana’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program began with the following course sequence: 1. Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
2. Digital Electronics (DE)
3. Principles of Engineering (POE)
4. Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
5. Engineering Design and Development (EDD) IED, POE, and CIM are currently placed under the Technology Education umbrella while the remaining two courses, DE and EDD, are listed as part of the multidisciplinary course offerings. The positioning of courses under specific subject areas affects the certification needed for the teacher instructing the course. However, the Indiana State Board of Education has adopted rules regarding “Non-Standard Course Waivers” that have a provision allowing someone outside the assigned certification area to teach a specific course. Several schools have submitted waivers so that math and science teachers can be instructors for the classes. Offering PLTW Courses Under Vocational Education In response to questions from schools looking for additional delivery options, a review of vocational education course titles and descriptions was conducted. Based on this review, the following vocational course titles under the Trade and Industrial Education program area may be used when offering four (4) of the five (5) PLTW courses:
