This is a list of mailing lists, also known as "listservs." They are email discussion groups dedicated to topics of interest to educators. Each "subscriber" may contribute to the ongoing discussion, and any contributions are automatically forwarded to everyone on the list. To network among educators I suggest subscribing to one or several of the many mailrings available at The Teacher's Net . They have separate mailrings for each grade, along with specialty rings. It is the best source available in my opinion.

Using Listservs
If you have an email address, you can subscribe to a discussion list. There are lists for almost every interest. Like newsgroups everyone can participate. But unlike newsgroups, these messages arrive in your email folder. Some of these lists may be very active generating 30 or 40 messages each day. You will want to check your messages frequently. Or, you can set a digest mode for most lists that will give you one long message each day.
The place to check for mailing lists is called Liszt
Check here for lists specifically for Washington teachers.

Educational Listservs
These are lists hosted by OSPI for the most part. You can sign up for them right on the web. To subscribe to most lists you send an email message to the address of the list provided below with a blank message line. In the body you usually issue the command
subscribe (listname) First Name Last Name
This varies but if it doesn't work, the list should send you back a page of instructions for joining the list. Once you have joined, you will receive another message telling you the most common commands such as setting digest, nomail, and unsubscribing. Don't lose that list.

COMSEC INTERNET RESOURCES
Phyllis Rovner NAFSA Region VI, 1999 HEREIN, please find a number of useful Internet website addresses (URLS) for COMSEC resources. At the time of submission these sites were "up", that is, available for viewing and deemed potentially useful for community programmers and friends. However, this is a dynamic environment and sites may come and go... use this as a starting point, and bookmark others you find to continue sharing! More and more, successful international education programming contains intercultural and multicultural elements. Domestic programs and institutions often serve refugee and immigrant folks, while traditionally international arenas also include campus-wide multicultural months (for women, African Americans, Latino, diversity/rainbow, etc.) Happy hunting!! http://www.siskiyous.edu/staff/williamsk/wavelengths/index.wl.html
This compendium by a community college international programs faculty member is a work 'in progress' but a sort of mega-list of the three divisions of international, domestic and both. The owner enthusiastically asks that you contribute more sites you find for her monthly updates!

    http://bellquel.bo.cnr.it/utilita/lists.html
Listserv Discussion Groups and Electronic Journals
    (latest revision: October 6, 1995)
T HE INTERNET contains literally thousands of special interest discussion groups, each individually controlled by a program known as a listserv. Discussions are often moderated by a list owner, but this is not always the case. Most lists can be provided to the user either in a digest form or on a post-by-post basis. Any member of the list may take part in a conversation or begin a new topic. Listservs also distribute electronic journals (commonly known as e-journals or e-texts), moderated on-line magazines usually dedicated to a specific area of research. Lists and e-journals are joined by posting email to the list address and writing the following in the first line of the actual posting: subscribe [name of list] [your first name] [your last name] Nothing else may be written within the message page. For example, if dbowie@stardust.com wanted to join the Education Technology list (EDTECH), he would send mail to listserv@msu.edu and write the following within the the post: subscribe EDTECH David Bowie The listserv program does the rest.
