Individual schools will get report cards
Easley says that data can be the key to more parental involvement
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
RALEIGH Gov. Mike Easley announced yesterday the creation of new school-by-school report cards to provide parents with information about a school's academic performance and staffing. The first report card is scheduled to go home with students May 22. In subsequent years, they will be released in February. Appearing with teachers and other school officials at Southeast High School in Raleigh, Easley said that giving parents more information about their schools is the key to getting them more involved. "The better informed they are, the more empowered they are, and the more involved they become," he said. The report cards will include results from the state's end-of-grade or end-of-course tests, with the numbers easily comparable to district and state averages.
